Chapter 266: Make Someone Happy

Summer had arrived, and the railway was busier than ever. Day in and day out, trains full of tourists went up and down the many railways, showing the passengers the many sights Sodor had to offer. All of the engine drivers were proud of their hard work. All, that is, except one.

"Ugh!" Groaned Daisy as she pulled into the junction with a line of coal trucks. "Why should I be stuck with this dirty job? Let Percy or Toby deal with this, I should be the one taking passengers to the seaside!"

Thomas just rolled his eyes.

"Daisy, do the world a favor and think about someone else for a change. You might be surprised by how good it makes you feel."

Daisy snorted and left to collect her next train. On her way to the quarry, she passed by Mrs. Kyndley's cottage. Smiling, she tooted her diesel's horn. But Mrs. Kyndley didn't wave back. Something was wrong. Concerned, Daisy stopped right alongisde, where Mrs. Kyndley was waiting. Fresh tears adorned her face.

"Mrs. Kyndley, is everything okay?"

"Hmm? Oh, hello Daisy. I'm alright, its just...my sister just phoned to tell me that she can't come visit me like she wanted too. Its been ages since I've seen her, and I was looking forward to her visit."

Daisy soon stopped feeling sorry for herself and instead felt sorry for Mrs. Kyndley.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Kyndley. Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Oh, no thank you dear. Just having someone to talk to was enough for me."

Still, Daisy wished there was something she could do to cheer her up. When she arrived at the next station, she saw some workmen putting up a poster on the wall. Daisy read it with mild intrest.

"Come see Harry Topper's fair?"

"Yep. Tonight at Tidmouth Bay. Bound to be a great time."

This gave Daisy an idea, and she went to speak to Sir Topham Hatt about it, who was more than happy to oblige.

"She shall arrive to the fair in style! Send Harold to pick her up."

An hour later, Mrs. Kyndley was asked to come to Hackebeck Station. Confused, she complied and found Harold waiting for her.

"Sir Topham Hatt asked me to give you an aerial tour of the Island. Climb aboard!"

"Oh, how lovely! I've always wanted to ride in a helicopter."

Once she was aboard, Harold took off into the air, blowing dust all across the yard. Daisy, who had been waiting in the siding for a train to pass, found her covered in it.

"Ugh! Just when I thought I was done with all these dirty jobs."

All the same, she was happy she was able to cheer up Mrs. Kyndley. In the meantime, Mrs. Kyndley was enjoying her trip. She'd never seen the Island from the sky before, and she was having a marvelous time!"

"It all looks so different from up here! All of those people down there look like ants!"

As dusk began to set in, Harold landed back at the station. Daisy was waiting for her.

"Sir Topham Hatt has asked me to take you to the fair as his special guest."

"Oh, how lovely!"

The guard helped her aboard and they set off. Mrs. Kyndley had such a lovely time that she soon forgot to be cross, and even Daisy had to admit she had a blast.

"You were right, Thomas," she told him as they watched the fireworks. "It really does feel good to think about other people."

"Told you."
