Donkey Kong Country: Legend of the Crystal Coconut
Prologue
Around 150 years ago...
--
The waves crashed with fury against the side of the ship. The wind howled and the thunder roared. Rain splashed all over the deck of the pirate ship.
Kaptain Quint Skurvy stood proudly inside the Captain's cabin of the ship, gazing at the shimmering coconut in his hands. The orangish-peachish kremling smiled wickedly. "The Crystal Coconut..." he whispered. "What a beauty. And I finally have it."
He lightly touched the top of the coconut. It made a soft humming sound. "It will be safe in the temple of the Inka Dinka Do." He said with a smile.
Quint Skurvy heard some footsteps behind him. He whirled his body around with a scowl on his face. "Who dares disturb me?" He hissed. A dark green kremling entered the room, looking quite nervous.
"Kaptain, I have some good news!" He said quickly. "It better be good! I was admiring this crystal and you interrupted me! Now what is it?" Quint Skurvy snapped. The kremling pointed out the window. Outside was a large island covered in jungle. "We have arrived at Kongo Bongo Island, Kaptain."
Quint Skurvy stared at the island for a second, admiring the beauty of it. "So, this is what the Jungle Kingdom looks like." He stated. "Interesting." He slowly made his way out the door for a better view. He then turned to the rest of his krew and yelled, "Land ho!"
The ship slowly made its way to the wooden plank at the front of the island. When it reached its destination, the ship crashed into the wooden plank, causing the old wood to crack and break. A bridge lowered from the ship and onto the beach of the island.
The kremlings started to get off the ship and onto the island, followed by Quint Skurvy. "Remember krew, we are here to put the Crystal Coconut in the ancient tower of Inka Dinka Do and nothing else! So don't go goofing off!" He declared. "Yes Kaptain!" The rest of the kremlings said. So Quint Skurvy led the group into the jungle, looking for this temple, Inka Dinka Do.
The group of kremlings passed many different animals. Rhinos, zebras, giraffes and a lot more. But luckily, none of these animals seemed to pay attention to the kremlings. "If we're lucky, then no animal will try to steal the Crystal Coconut of the Kaptain!" One kremling said to another. "Yeah! But if it does happen, the Kaptain will sure be pissed!" The other said, in a hushed voice. "Will you two be quiet?!" Hissed Quint Skurvy. "We don't want anyone to know we have the coconut. They might know we stole it and try to return it!" The two kremlings nodded and ducked their heads.
Finally, after hours of walking and arguing, the kremlings finally came to an ancient looking temple. "This must be it." Quint Skurvy whispered. Slowly, he entered the temple. Unfortunately, the other kremlings didn't have that much courage so they stayed in their place and watched as their Kaptain entered the temple.
Quint Skurvy was about five steps into the temple when he felt his foot press something. Out of nowhere, an arrow came hurtling towards him with the speed of a bullet. Quint Skurvy managed to duck under the arrow, the sharp object just inches away from his chest. He then looked at the wall beside him and realised a hole closing up. The place was infested with traps. "Well, this'll be harder than I thought." He sighed.
Quint Skurvy moved stealthily through the ancient temple's dimly lit corridors. His sharp eyes scanned the surroundings, detecting the slightest movement of hidden mechanisms. With each step, he narrowly avoided the deadly traps set by the temple's long-gone architects—swinging blades that whizzed past his scales, pressure plates that threatened to unleash poison darts, and crumbling floors over bottomless pits.
Quint Skurvy's agile reflexes and cunning mind were his greatest allies as he expertly leaped, ducked, and sidestepped through the treacherous maze. Despite the relentless hazards, Quint Skurvy pressed on, determined to get the Crystal Coconut to its final destination and the thrill of outsmarting the ancient defenses.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the Kaptain reached the end of the temple and where Inka Dinka Do lied. Quint Skurvy grinned, showing all of his razor sharp teeth. "I finally made it!" He stepped forward, only to be startled by a loud and deep voice.
"WHO GOES THERE!?" Inka Dinka Do yelled. Quint Skurvy hesitated at first but then spoke confidently. "I am Kaptain Quint Skurvy! And I have come to hide my most valuable treasure here! And you can't stop me." There was a long pause. "LEAVE NOW." Inka Dinka Do suddenly yelled. Suddenly the ground began to shake. Quickly as possible, Quint Skurvy found a spot to place the Crystal Coconut, well hidden. Then he ran for his life. The ground below him started to crumble.
Quint Skurvy sprinted through the ancient temple, his heart pounding as arrows whizzed past his head, narrowly missing him by inches. The air was filled with the ominous twang of bowstrings and the sharp whistle of projectiles, each one a potential death sentence. With each frantic step, the floor beneath him began to crumble, sending stone tiles plummeting into the darkness below.
Quint Skurvy's breath came in ragged gasps as he leaped over widening chasms, the ground disintegrating behind him. Sweat dripped into his eyes, blurring his vision, but he didn't dare slow down. His only hope lay in the faint glimmer of light at the end of the corridor, promising escape if he could just outrun the relentless assault and the treacherous, collapsing path.
He was so close. He ran faster than ever before, then leaped out the door just as the floor broke beneath him. "Well, that was intense." He panted. "But no matter. The Crystal Coconut is where I want it. And years from now, my great-great-great grand son will retrieve the coconut and rule the seven seas." Quint Skurvy turned around and started to make the long journey home, satisfied with what he had just done.
