Chapter 4-The Windmill And A Minotaur
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Leo jumped slightly when he heard his communicator beeping. He took a moment to compose himself before he answered it.
"Leo, it's April. I've managed to find a route to the lake. Look for a large windmill; there should be a path at the far side of it that'll lead you there!" April informed him.
"A large windmill…Got it. Thanks, April…" Leo replied.
"Be careful out there, guys…Over and out…" April told them before ending the call.
The turtle brothers left the village through a large double door. They were now in an area that resembled a farming environment, with animals such as chickens, cows, and pigs roaming around freely nearby.
"Guys, look! There's the large windmill that April told us about!" Donnie alerted as he pointed at the large old structure.
"Then we're on the right path towards the lake…" Leo confirmed.
As they walked another few steps forward, the turtle brothers spotted a couple of villagers doing some farm work and immediately crouched low near some tall grass, but the villagers hadn't spotted the turtles yet.
"Ok, here's what we're gonna do; we'll use stealth to sneak past the villagers and get to the windmill, and we'll only use force when it's absolutely necessary…Understood?" Leo whispered his plans to his brothers.
"Yeah…" Raph and Donnie responded quietly in unison.
Using their ninja stealth, the turtle brothers cautiously snuck past the villagers through the long grass until they had reached and entered the windmill, where they had spotted the entry way being closed off by a large metal portcullis. With no other option but to look for a way to open it, the trio moved up to the next floor above them and
"I think these gear cogs are what allow the portcullis to go up and down…" Donnie theorised.
"Da port-what?" Raph questioned in confusion since he didn't know what a portcullis really was.
"The large metal gate that's blocking our way…" Donnie specified with a sigh.
"Oh, right…but one of da cogs is missin'…" Raph pointed out when he looked at the empty space near the other cogs.
"Then we should go back out there and look for it; it's the only way for us to move forward, after all…" Leo urged.
Raph and Donnie sighed and nodded in agreement before they and Leo headed back out to go and look for the missing cog piece.
They had carefully and quietly sneaked past the villagers again and went inside a large barn. It was messy inside, with a lot of tools and hay scattered all around, but that didn't put the turtle brothers off; they had spread out and looked around before Donnie spotted something gear-shaped on the table.
"The missing cog piece! I've found it!" Donnie cheered as he picked it up.
"Alright, now let's-"
Rrrooooaaarrr!
Leo was interrupted by a loud roar coming from the doorway. The turtle brothers turned their heads towards the doorway and saw a large human wearing a bull's head and wielding a huge hammer!
"What the-? Is that a Minotaur!?" Leo questioned with wide eyes.
"No, it's a madman wearing a bull's head as a mask…!" Donnie corrected.
"Urgh, now dat's just wrong…!" Raph said in disgust.
"Quick! Get to the upper level!" Leo commanded.
The turtle brothers quickly ran towards the ladder and started climbing up to the upper level of the barn, though Raph was the last to go up due to using his shotgun to slow the man down first.
Once they were all at the top, the turtle brothers readied their weapons and started shooting at the deranged man, but like the chainsaw man from earlier, he was resistant to the bullets that were fired at him whilst he climbed up the ladder.
"Get back!" Leo told his brothers as he backed away from the ladder just before the bull man had reached the top and climbed onto the platform.
Raph instantly started firing at the bull man with his shotgun again, which was working since he was starting to weaken. However, there was still some strength and energy left in him, and he swung his large hammer at the turtle brothers. The trio dodged the attack, but the hammer had caused a gaping hole in the platform.
Not wanting the whole thing to be destroyed, the turtle brothers combined their weapons and fired at the bull man's head and chest. Eventually, the bull man stopped fighting and groaned in pain before falling backwards, leading him to fall off the platform and onto the hard ground with no signs of him getting back up again.
"Phew…Looks like dis bull just got dehorned…!" Raph said with a smirk.
However, the turtle brothers couldn't relax and celebrate yet; shortly after defeating the bull man, the trio heard voices coming from outside the barn.
"Shell, the noise has attracted the villagers' attention!" Donnie alerted whilst he reloaded his gun.
"Then, we've got no choice but to take them out…Get ready!" Leo replied before he too reloaded and readied his weapon.
Soon, the hostile villagers entered the barn with pitchforks, knives, and axes in hand. The axe-wielding villagers threw their weapons at the turtles, but Leo was able to deflect them with his katana swords before allowing Raph to shoot them down. They then watched as the villagers climbed onto the ladder to get to them at the upper level.
"Oh, no ya don't…!" Raph shouted before he grabbed the ladder and pushed it back, causing the villagers to fall to the ground with it.
Using this to their advantage, the turtle brothers jumped off of the platform and landed next to the stunned villagers, all of whom had slowly stood back up. Donnie used his bo staff to block an incoming pitchfork and kicked the villager back before he used his handgun to shoot him down, whilst Leo and Raph used their ninja weapons to parry against the knife-wielding villagers before using their guns to take them out permanently.
After another 2 minutes of fighting, the villager numbers had dropped to zero and everything was calm again. The turtle brothers took this stillness as an opportunity to catch their breaths and calm their fast-beating hearts down.
"Alright, they've stopped coming…Let's get back to the windmill and put that cog back where it belongs…" Leo said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah…Hopefully, there won't be any more surprises during and after the process…" Donnie prayed before he and his brothers left the barn and started making their way back to the windmill.
As soon as they had entered the windmill, the turtle brothers rushed upstairs to where the gears were and Donnie inserted the cog piece back in its place. Leo then pulled the switch lever down to activate the mechanism before he and his brothers heard sounds of the portcullis being raised up.
"Finally…we can move on, now…!" Raph sighed in relief.
"Yes, let's go…" Leo agreed before he and his brothers left the windmill through the now-accessible doorway.
After leaving the windmill, the turtle brothers walked across a long bridge before coming towards an old house.
"Whoa…Wonder who lives here…" Raph thought aloud.
"Who knows, Raph…but the gate's locked right now, so we can't get in…" Donnie told him as he tested the gate, which was indeed locked.
"Well, let's move on for now; there's another path on our right, so let's go that way…" Leo replied as he showed his brothers the path on the right-hand side.
With no other options left at this time, Raph and Donnie followed Leo as he walked down the path.
Suddenly…
"Ahí ellos están!" BOOM!
A male villager's voice was heard before a large explosion followed from above, causing a rockslide to come down towards the turtle brothers.
"Watch out!" Leo cried out before he grabbed his brothers' arms and jumped back just as the rockslide was about to bury them.
"Shell, dat was close!" Raph breathed out after getting his bearings.
"It's not over, yet…They're coming after us!" Donnie told him when he heard the men's voices and footsteps coming closer.
"Fall back to the house!" Leo commanded as he started running back to the old house, with Raph and Donnie following him closely from behind.
They had soon reached the house and began to prepare their weapons, but they soon realised that their ammo supply was running low. What else could they do? If they decided to fight the villagers now, they would have no ammo left and it would be difficult to find more in a hostile and rural environment like this.
It was then that Leo noticed the thick trees and bushes on the left side of the house.
"Quick, hide over there!" He hissed before he and his brothers rushed over to the trees and hid.
Within their hiding place, the trio quietly watched as the hostile villagers searched the area near the old house, but they couldn't see them. Now knowing that the turtles had got away, the villagers decided to leave the area via the path back towards the village.
"Looks like we gave 'em da slip…" Raph observed before he and his brothers slowly got out of their hiding place.
"Hey, look; a hidden path…!" Donnie alerted his brothers suddenly as he pointed at the pathway behind them.
"What da we do? Should we follow it?" Raph asked Leo, unsure of what they should do next.
"Well, since the right-side path is blocked and the path we came through earlier will have hostiles waiting for us, we have no choice but to go down this way…Let's proceed with caution, though; our ammo supply is low, so we need to make every bullet count…"
Raph and Donnie agreed, and all three brothers decided to follow the secret path, whilst preparing themselves for what was to come next.
