"Alpha's Rest"
Chapter two "Confessions"
Lara began to wake, eyes fluttering open as warm kisses pressed across her sternum and collar bone, going down to her breasts. Clever warm fingers were between her legs, tracing her thighs gently, and then pressing insistently around her clit, urging her to shift. Lara groaned, blinking the soupy cobwebs of sleep from her eyes as she opened them to stare up at the ceiling of her bedroom, then into Sam's smile as she raised her head from her kisses.
"Morning," she purred, clever fingers tugging at the shaft of her cock that was forming. Lara stared between her legs and spread her thighs.
"There's a horny Sam in my bed," she groaned. "Don't stop."
"Oh, I'm not going to," Sam purred, resting her chin on one hand above her. Lara reached up and pulled her head down for a kiss. Sam rested half on her, naked flesh warm. "Love you."
"I love you too," Lara sighed. Her shaft was fully extended, throbbing in Sam's hand. "Now show me."
Sam rolled on top and arched to take Lara inside. She moaned low and deep as Lara's shaft disappeared inside her. Lara stared at where they were joined and arched her hips up. Sam moved with her, rolling her hips.
Lara was fully awake now, enjoying the feel of pushing up into her Sam, who was arching in pleasure on her, breasts bobbing with her movements. The morning sunlight filtered in through the partially open curtains. Lara wanted to hug Sam onto her, but what they were doing felt too good already. Too quickly, Lara came, spurting up into her lover. Sam felt it, and sighed happily, laughing. She leaned her cheek onto Lara's breast, shaking on her. Sam hadn't come yet, Lara felt it.
Luckily, her hardness hadn't faltered, and she arched upward, relishing the wet silk of Sam's cave gripping her.
"I got you, Sam," Lara murmured. She sat up beneath Sam so she could hold her at last. Sam's legs tightened around her hips as her arms draped around her shoulders. Sam wriggled and moved over her lap, crying out sharply. Lara's hands moved up and down her back, helping her along, when she noticed Sam's eyes were squeezed shut and she was moving as if to wriggle away from her. But they were joined fast and even through her motions, Sam's cave didn't seem to want to give her up.
But Lara knew distress when she saw it and Sam was in agony, real agony, in her mind.
Lara stilled her hips and grasped the back of Sam's neck. "Sam! Look at me!"
Sam groaned, pushing on her shoulders, which hurt Lara's heart. But she had to help her.
"Sam!"
"Her generals…some had access to her…. he's with her now… get off me!" Sam cried. Lara urged her onto her side and slid out finally.
"Sam! You're not her. She's not here anymore. Sam!" Lara was beginning to panic until Sam's eyes opened, wet with tears. She stopped pushing and recognized Lara, holding onto her in the damp sheets.
"Lara! I saw her… and you weren't here, a general was here….
Guilt, fear and anger warred through Lara's veins. She was still hard, half pressed against Sam's hip, but she ignored it. The other emotions had stomped all over lust, arresting it.
"I'm here, Sam. You're with me. We're home. We're safe."
Lara's heart surged, throbbing in a staccato rhythm as Sam clung to her, crying into her shoulder.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she babbled. Lara gave a surprised laugh.
"What are you sorry about? It's okay…"
"I'm sorry…"
Lara held her and reminded her of stories of their time at Oxford. How they'd been paired as roommates randomly, and Sam had indignantly said she had requested another omega. Lara reminded her how she'd scoffed at that and said she was a controlled alpha, and that Sam needn't worry being propositioned. How they'd become friends during the few short years, graduating together that wonderful spring day.
Then the research into Himiko and the proposition to the Endurance for her expedition…. Lara swallowed a lump in her throat.
Sam leaned her head on one hand and leaned up to kiss her lips sweetly. "I told you about Himiko. I pushed for the expedition. It's not your fault, sweetie."
Lara pressed her cheek into one of the pillows, eyes distant. "If we hadn't gone to Yamatai, would we be here now?" Would it all be okay? Ever? Any survivor wondered that, all day, every day. For the rest of their lives.
Sam leaned to kiss her. The kiss lengthened and Lara was pulled on top of Sam. "We'd still be together….no matter if we went or not. I know it."
Lara felt relaxed enough to be pulled between Sam's thighs and pressed to hardness. She slid in carefully and Sam held her with warm hands.

Lara was talking with a few of the Oxford assistants who worked in the relics department with her. Some were students who were eager for graduation and worldly studies and often she was surrounded by the youths, eager for stories of her travels and fame.
"What about your discovery of Yamatai? You mentioned it in one interview. Why not do a whole expose?" One of the young men asked eagerly. Lara noted the youthful gleam in his eye and wished she could shelter him, and the girls in the room from the harsh realties of the outside world.
"My….friend got me started on that trip. She claimed Himiko was an ancestor of her Japanese family."
"Friend?" One of the girls quirked an eyebrow up teasingly. Lara sighed.
"Girlfriend. Sam Nishimura."
"Nishimura? I've seen samples of her documentary style from trips she took with you during college. Impressive and she must've gotten better!" One of the girls exclaimed.
Lara felt a crush of guilt. "She….took a break from filming. But she's working on something now."
"What is it? Will she show it?" The young man asked.
Lara gave a laugh. "If you want to see footage of Croft Manor, maybe. She's doing something close to home for now."
"Wow, good for her," one of the girls whistled appreciatively. Lara felt a pulse of interest from her and tried not to preen. She was more worried thinking of Sam, even at work.
"Indeed. Can you show me the priestess relics from the Syrian collection again?"

Rachel looked over Sam's shoulder at the footage she ran back on her camcorder.
"I don't want to wear the full maid outfit, it's so out of style!" she protested lightly, but there was a teasing ring in her tone. Sam gave her a friendly wink.
"But it'll set the mood! Croft Manor is centuries old. Maybe they hold onto traditions like this."
"Not everything," Rachel joked. "Miss Croft is always in the kitchen to get her snacks. I barely have a chance to serve her."
"You serve at dinner! That's good!" Sam insisted. Rachel blushed.
"Thanks, Miss Sam."
"Please, it's just Sam to you," Sam teased. Winston sidled by.
"Am I on there?" he asked. Sam nodded, rolling back her footage.
"Just a very regal shot. See, there you are, patrolling the first floor," Sam narrated. Winston gave a smile.
"Flattering angle."
"I try, really," Sam said.
"Anything I can do, Sam?" Rachel asked. Sam gave her a friendly nudge on the shoulder.
"You've helped me relax. It's okay."
"I think Miss Croft is in her study if you're looking," Winston offered.
Sam slung the strap of her camcorder over her shoulder. "Then I'll go hunting."
Lara's study really had been her father's study. Sam knew the bad thing that had happened in that room when Lara was a child, and it was surprising to her that Lara would want to sit where her father had died. Her girlfriend really was a strong woman despite having grown up with many advantages. The stories she'd told of her time in Siberia, in Mexico and Peru told her of harrowing battles and discoveries. Jonah didn't like to talk about their skirmishes with the Trinity cells they'd encountered, but it had been a lot.
Sam padded along the long corridor leading to the double doors of Lara's study. Portraits of past Crofts watched her from the hallway outside. The door was open a crack, but Sam rapped a knock anyway before poking in.
"Lara?" she asked, angling in. Lara set her cell phone down and pushed her chair back abit.
"Hey, Sam. Cmere," she urged. Sam set her camcorder on the desk and walked around to pile into Lara's lap. Lara kissed the top of her head as she cuddled close. The desk had been replaced, Sam knew, so it technically hadn't touched the deceased Lord Richard Croft, but she gave it a sidelong look anyway. "I've been meaning to tell you about someone…."
"Who?" Sam asked. She kissed the side of Lara's neck. Lara shivered.
"A….friend. I met looking for Kietsch," Lara began. "One of the Remnant people I told you about."
"Go on," Sam said pleasantly but she felt a lurch in her belly. Lara ran a hand up and down her thigh, looking distantly to the corner of her study.
"Her name is Sofia. Her father was the Immortal Prophet, Jacob. He…remember how I told you he finally died in the heart of Kietsch?" Lara asked. Sam nodded. The story made a compelling image in her head. To have seen it must have been harrowing… But Lara was moving on and she looked uncomfortable.
"What is it? Sweetie, you can tell me anything," Sam smiled. She felt better as Lara's arm slid around her waist, making them more comfortable on the wide chair.
"I slept with her," Lara blurted out. "After the journey was done. It was….it just happened."
The statement was fast, but Sam took a moment to process. Lara looked like she was flinching, as if anticipating an outburst. Sam cuddled close, draping an arm around her neck. "Well, we weren't together….at that point. Lara, it's okay."
"I still text her. We're just friends," Lara added. "She's never had access to a phone. I wanted to know how her people were doing so I set her up."
"It's okay," Sam insisted. Lara still looked guiltily down at the desktop.
"Are you sure? It's not your fault you weren't with me in Siberia…." Lara murmured. Sam turned her face to her and gave her a soft kiss. She smiled when Lara relaxed into it.
"We're together now. You saved me," Sam murmured. They kissed again, a long string of warm kisses. Lara half leaned Sam against the desk, catching her breath.
"I told her about us. She knows I'm with you," Lara went on. Sam laughed, tugging at Lara's shirt front.
"I believe you. Kiss me, charming archaeologist," Sam joked. Lara leaned down, pinning her to the desk, kissing her again. They spent the next hour or so in there, getting better acquainted on the freshly vacuumed carpet beside the desk. When they got up, Lara zipped her pants and tried to adjust her shirt sleeves.
Sam kissed her cheek and across her face. Lara helped her up and then picked her up in her arms. Sam giggled as Lara carried her out of the study.
End for now
End notes: Again, sorry so short. I don't think Sam is the type of girl to be ridiculously jealous of a situation she wasn't even in at the time, which is why I wrote it this way. Drama for drama's sake can be avoided in most instances :P
