"Everything that can go wrong will go wrong." -Murphy's Law
There was nothing but ocean for the past two hours: a liquid, blue floor five hundred feet below them. For team RWBY, things had been easy given what they were told. Once a year, the Grimm would gather and circle the same spot for hours. This spot happened to be in the center of the sea and 150 miles off the coast of Patch.
Suffice it to say, it was strange. Their mission, find out why. It was a simple task and it would be easy to complete. Fight Grimm, study what they can, and make it home safe and sound. But you know what they say, "No plan survives first contact with the enemy."
For Team RWBY that saying was proving to be very accurate. Just as they would arrive at the ship that would take them the rest of the way to the spot, a storm, unlike anything they had seen before manifested out of thin air. Lightning flashed around the bullhead as the four huntresses held on amidst the turbulence.
There was their leader, Ruby. She had silver eyes and neck-length black hair with red tips. She wore a long-sleeved black blouse and skirt with red trim, a pair of black stockings, and black, red-laced combat boots. Mainly identified by her red cloak pinned to her shoulders by two cross-shaped pins. Around her waist was a belt that displayed an emblem of a flaming rose in silver. Her weapon, Crescent Rose in a compact state for transport was on her back. Unfolded it was a red scythe that could transform into a sniper rifle.
Weiss, Ruby's partner. She had pale blue eyes and long white hair pulled back into an off-center ponytail on the right side pinned with a silver tiara with a silver icicle design and wearing an apple pendant and rectangular, silver earrings. She also wore a thigh-length strapless dress with a soft color gradation from white to pale blue at the hem scalped to resemble snowflakes with black lace on her neckline. A bell-sleeved bolero with the same color gradation is over her dress. On the back of the bolero is a stylized snowflake. Her boots are white, wedged-heeled, higher at the back, and lined in red. A thin white sash is tied around her waist. On her left hip was her weapon Myrtenaster, a silver rapier with six chambers housing six different rounds of dust ammunition.
Blake, Yang's partner. She had black hair and amber eyes with purple eye shadow in the cat's eye style and, black cat ears on the top of her head concealed by a black bow on top of her head. Blake wore a black, buttoned vest with coattails over a white, sleeveless, high-necked, crop undershirt and white shorts with a zipper. She had black low-heeled boots and full stockings with a color gradation of black to purple. An emblem of a stylized belladonna flower was on the outside of both thighs just below her shorts in white. A small, loose, black scarf was wrapped around her neck, and a gray backpack was strapped to her back where her weapons, Gambol Shroud was stored via a magnet. Gambol shroud consisted of a larger black sword that doubled as a scabbard for a smaller sword with a ribbon attached to the handle. The smaller sword could fold its blade to transform into a handheld pistol.
Finally, Yang, Ruby's sister and Blake's partner, Yang was taller than her sister and teammates and had lilac eyes and long, thick, wavy bright golden hair. Yang wore a tan jacket, with golden brown piping over a low-cut yellow crop top with a burning heart emblem on the left breast in black, a brown belt covered by a brown fabric from hip to hip around the back of her waist, brown, knee-high boots, and orange over-the-knee socks, with the right sock, pushed down just below the knee, and a purple bandana wrapped around her left knee with an orange infinity scarf and black fingerless gloves on her hands. On her wrists were a pair of yellow and black bracelets that could expand to become a pair of shotgun gauntlets known as Ember Celica.
Yet for all their weapons and skills, they and their pilot were powerless in the face of the maelstrom surrounding them.
"You girls okay back there. Things are getting kind of rough." The pilot in the cockpit said.
"Doing well." Yang said. It hadn't been an easy journey. The only danger they faced was a small flock of Nevermore birds following them to the point and then silence for the past hour. However, Yang was nervous. Even hurricanes weren't this powerful when it came to storms. To make things worse, the storm seemed to materialize out of thin air in minutes. This was not a normal storm and given how close they were to the drop zone, the Grimm were certain to…
Yang didn't get the chance to finish her thoughts as a sound of pierced metal reached everyone's ears and the bullhead suddenly jerked to a stop. Team RWBY was jerked forward and lost their balance. The entire ship began to tilt down as it looked like it was in free fall. Blake looked up and saw a white boney protrusion in the roof of the bullhead.
"Just the right time for Grimm to show up." Blake remarked as she struggled to get to her feet. Ruby made her way to the cockpit and stood next to the pilot.
"What have we got?" Ruby asked.
"Lancer, it's caught our right wing and the passenger roof. If we don't get that thing off soon we're either going get turned into a fried chicken or become part of a rapier wasps honey recipe." the pilot answered.
"Anything we can do?" Ruby asked.
"Not in this weather, our best bet is to shoot the overgrown yellow jacket but since we're facing down it's going to be a challenge." The pilot said.
"Then wish me luck." Ruby replied to the pilot's confusion. The pilot's confusion turned to fear as Ruby activated Crescent Rose's sniper rifle form and opened the rear door. Heavy rain poured in as Ruby took aim at the large insectoid form of the Lancer outside as her teammates covered their faces while Ruby positioned herself for the shot.
"Ruby are you insane?!" Weiss exclaimed.
"Trust me, I just need to line this up." the red-hooded huntress said. Ruby looked through the scope of her weapon and took aim. The rain kept getting heavier and the water hit like a small waterfall. Yet amidst the storm, Ruby kept calm, aimed for the Lancer, and fired a single shot. The shot zoomed through the rain and hit the insectoid Grimm in the bottom of the head as the Grimm disintegrated and the bullhead went into free fall.
"Pull up!" Ruby Yelled and the pilot did as ordered. Ruby closed the rear door and their ship began to tilt up. The bullhead accelerated with every passing second as the water came even closer than ever. The ship bumped the surface of the water as it began to rise back into the sky.
Everyone onboard cheered as they ascended.
"Nice one Ruby, you showed bug eyes whose boss!" Yang declared.
"Thanks, sis." Ruby answered. The huntresses and the pilot breathed a sigh of relief as they continued forward. But it was short-lived.
Not even five minutes had passed and the sound of thunder followed by an explosion was heard.
"Crap, right engines down. We can still fly but one more hit and were done for." the pilot said. He continued to try and maneuver as more Grimm began to swarm the aircraft.
"You all might want to gear up, 'cause more are outside!" he said. His words were immediately followed by talons and claws slashing at the side doors and back. Immediately, Team RWBY jumped into action. All four did their best to fight off the attack monsters of black and white. However, their numbers were too many and the bullhead was quickly falling apart.
"You know as much as I want to pound overgrown turkeys and bugs into dust, I'd rather not become one of their friend's chew toys." Yang said.
"No argument from me, we'll need to wait it out after they leave." Weiss concurred.
Ruby looked around at her team and the state of the bullhead. The Grimm were everywhere outside and the pilot was in one of the most vulnerable places on the aircraft. Ruby looked at her sister and her friends and then at the pilot. She knew what needed to be done and hurried to the cockpit.
"Get us out of here!" Ruby ordered.
"Don't have to tell me twice." the pilot replied and began to turn. Unfortunately, as soon as he did, the left wing was ripped off and the bullhead began to spiral downwards to the ocean.
"Left wing's gone, everybody hang on to your boots and shoes we're going for a ride."
The pilot's words were not lost on deaf ears. As the bullhead tumbled down, lightning flashed around the storm, and the bullhead seemed to go into a spiral free fall. Everyone braced for impact as the sea grew closer. Believing this was the end, the pilot and the four huntresses closed their eyes preparing for the possibly painful crash of the ocean on their faces.
Just as they were halfway down, Lighting struck the bullhead and a bright light engulfed the bullhead and all of the Grimm chasing it.
It was just after dawn. The canister had already accumulated some moss on the shore. However, its contents were spilled across the beach. Pieces of a mighty warrior jettisoned from their silver tomb. It was a long time coming.
As the sun climbed into the sky, the pieces continued to rest. It remained this way for an hour until limbs began to twitch, fingers began to move, and a pair of red eyes opened to the world around it.
As it began to, quite literally, rebuild itself from the ground up, one thing had become very clear and no one knew it yet.
The island was about to change and as the warrior walked away from his canister, just a few yards from the shore and coming closer, a new legend was about to take shape.
The destiny of the island was about to take shape.

A/N: So yeah, while this is not my first fanfiction, this is something I've wanted to do for a while now. I am a fan of both RWBY and Bionicle and I've always felt that these two franchises could go pretty well together. Shout out to Joey245 for inspiring me to do my own take on this crossover that definitely deserves more love. Next chapter is going to be much longer. I hope you all enjoy this fanfic and stick around for more on the Legend of RWBY because buckle up for the ride as we explore not only the island of Mata Nui, but also the secrets that lie within.
Until next time,
God bless you
and live life to the fullest.
