Chapter 6:
During their break between classes, Ginny, Astoria and Pansy found themselves sitting on the stone walls of the courtyard. Amber had been in a gleeful mood the whole day, while Ginny had been feeling absolutely miserable. Ginny convinced herself it had nothing to do with one another, but could not stop thinking about Amber and Draco.
Amber made her way to the courtyard and waved excitedly at her girlfriends. She then sat down next to them, sighed happily and looked enraptured at the sky. Ginny, Astoria and Pansy were looking expectantly at her. Astoria and Pansy looked at each other.
Pansy: So?
Amber: So, what?
Amber said, smiling sheepishly, acting like she didn't know what they were talking about.
Ginny: So, what happened last night?
Astoria: Did he even show up?
Amber: He definitely showed up.
She then leaned forward and pulled her jumper away from her neck.
Pansy: Oh, my God.
The three of them looked at the golden necklace around Amber's neck and looked at each other concerned.
Amber: I know, right? God, he was so sweet last night. And we talked for hours, and we… There he is.
Draco Malfoy, together with Blaise Zabini and Theodore Nott came walking into the courtyard.
Amber: Hey!
Amber said as they passed next to them. Draco, however, looked straight ahead, didn't spare a single glance at Amber, leaving her dumbstruck.
Ginny turned back to Amber.
Ginny: Amber, what exactly did you guys do?
Amber: We- We kissed, and…
Ginny: And what? What more did you guys do?
Amber: N-Nothing. We talked and then snogged for a bit. And then he told me to go back before curfew.
Ginny's jaw clenched, and she looked furiously at Draco's direction, who was now standing on the other side of the courtyard, laughing with his friends.
Ginny turned back to Amber.
Ginny: Amber, he used you. D'you understand?
Pansy: You're just another trophy on his shelf, Amber.
Astoria was rubbing Amber's back, trying to sooth her. Amber's face suddenly want red from anger.
Amber: I'm gonna give him his stupid necklace back.
Ginny: Wait, Ams. That's not what we meant-
Before they could do anything, Amber had walked up to Draco. Ginny and the other two went after her, but stayed at a distance.
Amber: Here.
Draco turns around, very uninterested.
Draco: What?
Amber: I said: "Here". It's your dumb necklace. If you think I'm gonna walk around like one of your trophies or some shit, you're wrong.
Draco: Trophy? …D'you really think it meant anything? Let alone a trophy? And you know what this is?
Draco held up the necklace, letting it swing in front of Amber's eyes.
Draco: It's a necklace I got for 3 Sickles from the junk shop in Diagon Alley. D'you understand? You never meant anything to me.
Amber scoffs and walks away. Not wanting to let anyone see her cry. Ginny, Pansy and Astoria had been listening to the conversation from afar. Before Pansy could stop her, Ginny walked up to Draco
Ginny: Wow. You're such a cool dude, Malfoy
Draco looks back around and looks Ginny up and down. A grin appeared on his face. It's working.
Draco: What'd you say, Weaslette?
Ginny: Tell me, what happened to you as a kid that made you have such an inferiority complex, that your pathetic ego finds it necessary to hurt a person like Amber?
Draco looked taken aback by her harsh comment.
Ginny: What? Did mommy never tell you that your drawings were pretty? Or did daddy never hug you?
Ginny starts laughing bitterly.
Ginny: Or wait. I know. I know. You didn't yet have any hair on your balls 'till last year.
Ginny watched Draco's jaw clench and a unamused smirk appear on his face.
Ginny: No? Well, whatever it is. Isn't it about time you get the fuck over it and start behaving like an actual human being instead of walking around like a living fucking cliché?
Ginny rolled her eyes and went after Amber before she'd even given Draco the time to respond.
Draco chuckled to himself and turned to see Ginny, with Pansy and Victoria behind, walk away. He'd always known she had a sharp tongue but damn, he was impressed.
Later that day, Draco sat at the back of the classroom. In between bantering with his mates, he found himself drawn to the back of the head of a redheaded girl. He could not stop thinking about their little encounter. Had it worked? Was Ginny jealous, or was she just protecting her friend?
Meanwhile, Ginny sat a few desks to the front. Having a conversation with Amber.
Amber: No, yeah, I'm totally over it. Malfoy's a dick.
Ginny nodded sympathetically to the girl in front of her.
Ginny: I'm glad you can finally see that now.
Amber: Thanks, by the way, for you know taking the piss out of Malfoy. Kinda wished I'd been there.
Ginny hugged the small girl tightly.
Later that night, Ginny lay awake in her bed. She'd by now gotten used to the unslept beds and actually found it quite enjoyable at times. Why would he do this shit? First lead Amber on, the thought enraged her, to then just dump her like she's nothing.
The next day
Draco walked through the courtyard to his next class when he saw Ginny and Pansy, chattering and laughing. He grinned and made his way over to them. As he got closer, their conversation grew louder.
Pansy: -surprised he didn't piss himself. Honestly, d'you see his face. It was-
Draco: Still celebrating your victory then?
Draco had placed himself on the bench next to Ginny. Pansy, whom was sitting on the ground opposite of Ginny, had stopped talking as soon as Draco came in her eyesight, suggesting they were still talking about his and Ginny's encounter yesterday.
Ginny: We weren't- whatever.
Ginny shook her head.
Ginny: We don't need to explain ourselves to you.
As she pushed her hair behind her ears, Draco couldn't help but just stare at the goddess sitting next to him. Her hair was red, but not like her brother's orange barnet. Her's was auburn, long and luscious and framed her face perfectly. God, her face. He couldn't even begin to describe it. Her eyebrows, thick and dark, her eyes, a sort of umber tornado with a hint of gold in it. Her lashes thick and long, her nose, tiny and turned-up. And lastly her lips. God, how he couldn't stop staring at those lips. Ever since that mouth had spat those insults at him, he couldn't stop thinking about kissing her full lips and tasting the roses on them. All the while he was staring at her face, looking it up and down and taking in every detail, he hadn't realized he'd been staring at her for a whole minute. Pansy had started giggling and whispering to Victoria, and Ginny's eyebrows were now frowned.
Ginny: Can I help you?
Draco's gaze broke and he had to regain his posture quickly. Then his famous grin appeared.
Draco: Do you want to go and have a drink with me sometime, Weaslette? Y'know, Hogsmeade, you and me.
Ginny let out a shrug.
Ginny: Sorry, Drake, but-
Draco: Draco.
Ginny: What?
Draco: My name. It's Draco.
Ginny: Right, Malfoy. I think my answer's pretty clear then, isn't it?
Draco: How so?
Ginny: I don't even know your first name.
Draco: You can call me whatever name you want.
Ginny: Ok, then… I will call you asshole.
Draco let out a laugh. Then he looked back at Ginny and his face went a bit more serious. If only she understood how much this turned him on.
Draco: So, we have a deal then?
Ginny: I thought my answer was clear but apparently your IQ is even lower than what your looks make me suspect.
Draco had to admit she knew how to make a person feel like shit. Of course he wasn't just any person. His face remained the same. Meanwhile the giggling around them continued.
Draco: So…?
Ginny: Do I have to spell it out or something? It starts with an N and ends with O.
Draco knew he'd been defeated. Again. But he took this rejection as a positive interaction to try and get closer to her. And so, with no lost pride, he stood up and swung his bag back on his shoulder. Before leaving he turned back around.
Draco: Just let me know when you change your mind.
Ginny smiled sweetly at him.
Ginny: I wouldn't wait for it.
Draco nodded and made his way to herbology.
Bloody hell, she's sexy, he thought. When he looked back at Ginny, she was already staring at him. They locked eyes for what seemed like ages, but was only a few seconds in reality, before Ginny looked away at her lap. Draco then attended herbology happily for the first time in his school career.
Meanwhile, Pansy and Ginny looked at each other, in disbelief.
Pansy: What the fuck.
Pansy and Ginny burst out laughing.
About a week later, Draco came running into the Potion's classroom, running after Blaise to give him back his quill, when he crashed into someone.
Person: Fuck, asshole!
Draco stopped running and watched Blaise hide behind a desk, ready to run away again. He turned to the girl he had just bumped into and only took a second to say a quick 'sorry'. His mind took a second to register the red hair and piercing umber eyes. His head shot back to look at the girl, almost twisting his neck in the process. He stood up straight and watched as Ginny shot him an angry glare.
Ginny: Well, I'm waiting.
Draco: What'd y-
Draco was confused but Ginny then pointed to her papers, whom were spread all over the floor. Draco then swallowed his pride and knelt to pick up the papers. Ginny stood, arms-crossed, looking down at him.
Blaise: When d'you have time, Draco? You can come clean at my place too.
Draco shot an angry glare and raised his middle finger to Blaise and Theo, whom were laughing with each other.
While collecting Ginny's papers, Draco noticed the squiggly drawings drawn on the edge of almost all of her textbooks. He smiled a bit to himself. That's cute, he thought. When Draco was done collected all of Ginny's papers, he stood up and gave them to her. Ginny, without sparing a glance at him, started sorting the papers out, numbering them correctly. Draco bent down to Ginny's level and tried to put his face in her eyesight.
Draco: What, not even a thank you?
Ginny looked at him through hooded eyes.
Ginny: Thank you for walking into me?
Draco sighed.
Draco: Sorry, okay?
Sorry: D'you know to whom you should say sorry to? Amber, for your prick behavior. Oh, no, wait. That probably won't work, because your brain isn't developed enough for that.
Draco looked down, grinning.
Draco: I'll think about it.
Now it was Ginny's turn to stick her head in his eyesight.
Ginny: If you can. With such a small brain capacity.
Draco then sniggered and took a big step towards Ginny. He bent down so their eye's would be levelled and their noses almost touching.
Draco: Especially when it's already filled with you.
Ginny rolled her eyes and turned on her heel. She put her books down and took a seat on the table. Draco walked away. His eyes lingering a bit before going back to chasing Blaise. He still hadn't gotten his quill back.
