Okay, So got some good news and got some bad news. Good news is all my christmas shopping is done, I'm finally adjusting to civilian life again, and overall in a decent mood. Bad news is my application for the APD got rejected because someone in my platoon was investigated by CID, and because they were a friend of mine it looked suspicious during the background check. This does not disqualify me entirely from becoming a cop, but basically they told me to try again later. So basically I'll have to try and get in in another year, or some shit like that. So that sucks.
But I'm not letting it get to me, I already have filled another ten job applications trying to find some work so I can save money to get out of Illinois.
Right now, Plan is either Alaska or Texas. We'll see.
Jem
"You know its been awhile since we've hung out!" Team RWBY said as Jem was actually hanging out with them all as they were playing games.
"I know, so what are we all doing?" He asked as he was drinking his coffee mixed with a bit of baileys.
"Well, we put on Resident evil 2 on the hardest difficulty and we're taking turns to see who can get the farthest, and in between people, we just talk about life and eat pizza." Ruby said as right now Pyrrha was getting killed by a licker.
"Sounds like a nice relaxing night to me." He said as Pyrrha looked embarassed.
"How can you be so good at everything else but you suck at video games?" Weiss asked Pyrrha as she blushed.
"I didn't get to play a lot!" Pyrrha pouted as the only games Pyrrha was good at was fighting games because it was the only games her sponsors would let her play because it would help her get into the champion mindset.
Survival horror games however she was screwed. She was completely out of her territory. And she squeaked as she saw Claire get eaten alive by zombies yet again.
For some reason Jem felt like he had seen this situation before, but to be honest it had been so long since they showed up to his world, it wouldn't surprise him if shit was repeating over and over again. All he knew was that he was just glad to have some down time. Sadly the gym had just let him go because he had enough of the cougars at work sexually harassing him, but when he went to go complain, he was the one who ended up getting fired because the owner didn't want to risk losing her most prominent clients. Those being the middle aged women who went to the gym to hit on younger guys and not actually work out.
It was sad, but it was also something that happened a lot.
He wasn't even that good looking, but apparently every young dude looked like a little Caesars pizza to a cougar, hot and ready.
So here he was looking for another job. Especially since he had hit a dead end with the police department. Who would have thought he would get beaten out by a guy with a slightly more advanced degree than him? Oh well, it is what it is. Life throws some curve balls just got to roll with the punches.
"Does anyone else find it surprising that Weiss is good at this?" Ruby asked as Weiss was meticously counting ammo.
"Well you don't get far learning about the family business if you don't know when expending ammo would be a bad or good investment." She said as she was making sure not to use any bullets too hastily.
Nala meanwhile was sleeping on the couch. Apparently the sound of zombies eating Pyrrha's flesh lulled her to sleep, Jem couldn't help but find it both cute and disturbing.
Winter however.
"AH CHOO!"
Was currently in the other room sick as a dog.
Which she thought was completely unfair, because during their walk yesterday, she was warning Jem that he was going to get sick if he walked around outside without a jacket, especially since there was a nip in the air. Jem just said 'Fuck it, if it happens it happens' and wouldn't you know it? Winter was the one who got sick instead. So she was a bit mad about that.
"Ugh this sucks." Winter said as she had never been sick before in her life.
Jem sensing he was needed stood up and went over to the stove, where he had his own kind of soup being made.
"Don't worry Winter, help is on the way." He said as he added a bit of seasoning that he liked to the soup. Some people found it weird, but he honestly liked it that way, plus it was perfect for when you were feeling sick.
He got her a bowl of soup and made his way to the computer/second living room where Winter was currently laying on a pull out bed with a nightstand full of vapo rub, seven up, saltines, and soon she was about to have soup. Effectively completing the broke as fuck way of curing any disease.
"Here we go." Jem said as he sat on the bed next to Winter as he gave her the soup.
"How is this fair? How did you not get sick?" She said her voice being all congested.
"Simple, the more you stress over getting sick, the more likely you are to get sick, stress weakens the immune system you now." He said as she took the bowl of soup.
"What is this anyways?"
"Well, its campbells chunky chicken and dumpling soup, but I also sliced up a vienna beef dog and added some kurts seasoning to it, its never failed to help me feel better." He said as she gave him a weird look.
"Thats...an odd combination." She said as she took a small sip of it.
"But not bad, and like I said, it always helps me feel better." He said as he leaned back against the back of the couch of the hideaway bed and turned on the tv.
"I still don't think its fair I got sick." She said as she took a few more sips.
"Don't worry, if theres anything I learned from growing up, anything can be beaten with vicks, soup and seven up." He said as she looked at him funny.
"Isn't that a south park episode?"
"Yes, but anyone who grew up with a cheap dad knows about that cure. Plus in that episode it was sprite not seven up. According to my dad Sprite wasn't cheap enough." Jem clarified as he was sick of people thinking they got the idea from a south park episode.
And it got him through the three years he was in the army and had to deal with being sick.
"Did you grow up poor?"
"Oh no, not at all, we're all just cheap as fuck." He said as he didn't see why everyone went to the doctors for minor sicknesses like the common cold.
Hell, they didn't even go to the doctor when they had the flu. Again, vicks, soup, and 7up, the magical cure for everything.
"...Okay I'll admit, the vienna beef does add an interesting flavor." She said as she was surprisingly enjoying the soup.
Jem may have been silly, but he knew what he was talking about in some ways.
"Well, lets just combine barracks cooking with complete boredom, you learn a few things. Like for example, you can crush maruchan ramen noodles in the bag, throw the seasoning in and eat them like chips." He said as she gave him a weird look.
"...Why wouldn't you just make the ramen noodles like a normal person?"
"Well, Campbell's water was considered hazardous for a few days because they found a dead animal in the water purification system, so we weren't allowed to drink the actual water for a few days." He said as that was a pain in the ass.
"...If its a water purification system, why would the dead animal make a difference?"
"Simple, its an army budget system, which means the lowest bidder they could find to build it was the one who built it." He said as he still laughed at some people thinking military grade was high quality.
Granted, it was times like this as he was reminded of those shenanigans that he realized he did miss the army in some ways. Granted he couldn't see himself going back in as Infantry again, but then again he also had too much pride to be a POG, so he was kind of stuck in the middle somewhere over wanting to stay in the army but change MOSs, but not want to deal with the shame of being a POG. Decisions, decisions.
"Again, another thing I can't believe is different between our worlds. In our world, our armies are a priority and get only the best equipment." She said as she remembered how Atlas was one of the most advanced in the world.
"Yeah but in your world, everyone sees the value in having a strong military because you're constantly under attack by Grimm, people here only see the value in having a strong military when shit hits the fan." He said highlighting the differences between Remnant and Earth.
"Granted, we're also able to buy better equipment for personal use as long as its authorized, and you can be damn sure I didn't use any of my issued gear if I didn't have to." He said remembering it took him forever to find a plate carrier he enjoyed using that his COC would approve of.
Winter smiled a bit, as much as she may have hated bad days in the army. At least she would never have to deal with the fuckery that Jem did. She was certain she would have gone insane if any of the enlisted men under her command ever acted like Jem. Thank the gods that would never happen. Imagine commanding an entire platoon worth of Jems, it would be disastrous...or effective...but mostly disastrous. Either way, she was glad she didn't have to think about that. Granted now that she thought about it. She found herself thinking about what was going on back in Remnant. She knew by now that General Ironwood had to have found the drone with the footage of their disappearance on it. But what was he doing? She knew by Nala's appearance that they were working on reverse engineering the dust Ruby and Weiss made. But how much could they make? How long had it been since they left? Was time different here on Earth then it was in Remnant? Could they be here over thirty years but back in Remnant would only be two?
She shook those ideas from her head, that seemed a bit too ridiculous.
"Jem, you used to write fanfiction of the show we're on right?" She asked as he nodded.
"Yeah so what?"
"Did you ever write something similar to this?" She asked as Jem thought about it.
"Nah, I don't think so, writing a self insert fic is for for guys who break a wrist from jerking themselves off so hard." Jem said as he rolled his eyes at the idea of it.
"Well, what did you write?"
"Nothing too good. Any writer who looks back at their work will find something to hate, for example, I wrote this one where Jaune was Darth Vader from Star Wars." Winter deadpanned at that.
The blonde noodly guy as Darth Vader? That seemed ridiculous.
"I mean people liked it, but jesus, anytime I look back and read it, I wonder if I was partially retarded, because it was so dumb and poorly written that I almost deleted it." Jem said as he had no idea why he didn't take it down.
"Why didn't you?"
"Some people still enjoyed reading it, so I figured screw it, I'll just ignore the fact I wrote that fic, and let people enjoy it for what it was." He said as he still didn't want to think about it.
Especially after being disappointed with most of the new star wars movies. Except for Rogue one and the Mandalorian, those were awesome. Force awakens was okay, but the other two in the sequel trilogy were really disappointing.
But Jem had to cut off that train of thinking before his thoughts just became a rant for the rest of the chapter.
"So you have no idea when we would go home?"
"Trust me, I got no idea, I've never traveled between worlds before." He said as they had come to his world, it wasn't like he had been to Remnant before.
"Ugh, I hate waiting."
"Hey, look on the bright side, its not so bad here."
"Except for being sick." Winter said as she coughed a little.
"Yeah, but thats a minor cold, you're lucky, could always be worse." He said as Winter chuckled.
"I suppose."
"Yeah...a lot...LOT worse."
