Okay guys, another short chapter since I wanted to put this out here. I've been playing Far Cry new dawn lately. You know its funny, a friend recommended Far Cry 5 to me awhile ago and I didn't play it because I was never into it. But I gave it a shot and loved it, but I only recently bought new dawn because I wasn't going to pay full price for a game I may not like as much. So I waited til black friday.

Not gonna lie though, as crazy as Joseph Seed is, he's also making a lot of sense.

"You mean to tell me that you immediately started antagonizing Robyn Hill as soon as you met her?" Winter asked as she had her face in her palm as Nala was just happily eating a snack while Jem nodded.

"Hey, I would have been willing to leave it alone if she wasn't trying to catch me in a lie, I think I was completely justified." He said as it was kind of a dick move to assume someone was a creeper just because they happened to have an adopted Faunus daughter.

"I know, but is it really the best idea to piss off a politician?" She asked as Jem shrugged.

"Relax, its not like she's going to put out a hit on me, she may be a lot of things, but she's not a Clinton." Jem said as Winter just sighed.

"Be that as it may, try not to piss off future allies of ours, who knows you two may become friends in the future." As soon as Winter said that Jem started laughing.

"Oh my god, friends with a politician, oh thats rich." He said as he was certain that would never happen.

Winter knew she wasn't going to win this argument. Not because Jem was in the right, but because he was stubborn when it came to this topic. Considering his family had a whole armory at their home, she was certain they were trying to arm a militia group. Jem would always deny it of course. But they all knew it was there. But as Jem would put it.

"In the words of Burt Gummer 'Distrust in the government is no cause for suspicion." She rolled her eyes at that memory.

He only watched Tremors just because of Burt Gummer. If that wasn't enough he would always say stuff like 'Burt Gummer is my spirit animal'

Ugh, it was annoying. But sadly now that he was in Remnant where there was danger around every corner, he probably felt justified in his over prepared and paranoid personality.

"Have I ever told you that you drive me crazy?" Winter asked as Jem just gave her a hug.

"Of course you have, but you love me." He said doing the puppy dog eyes.

"Those only work if you're cute." She deadpanned.

"Well I think I'm cute." He said doing a pouty lip.

"Now you're just doing that to annoy me." She said with a slight smile on her face.

"And its working." He said as Winter just sighed.

As annoying as he was, he did have his own kind of charm to him. Like a big baldheaded special needs casanova.

"Whatever, I'll show you to where we'll be staying." She said as Jem and Nala just followed her.

"Where 'We'll' be staying?" Jem asked even though he knew the answer.

"Oh come on, we literally slept in the same tent, bed and couch multiple times, its not like I don't mind you sharing my room with me!" Winter said as Jem nodded.

"I know, but its funny how quick we went from 'Don't touch me' to 'You're my teddy bear.'" He said as Winter put a finger on his mouth.

"NOT IN PUBLIC." Winter still felt embarrassed about that.

While the couple did not want to have sex until further down the road, that did not stop Winter from holding Jem close to her at night like a oversized stuffed animal. Usually any man would have a problem with it, but Jem soon discovered something else. When she used him as a teddy bear, he also got to be the little spoon.

And it was amazing. He felt so warm and protected.

Meanwhile Nala was confused about the whole situation.

"Mom still sleeps with a teddy bear?" Nala asked as she still had one, but she thought adults didn't do that?

Meanwhile In the desert of Vacuo

"Come on Millina! We got to get back!" A man in a shrouded robe and headdress said to someone behind him.

"Yes father!" A young faunus woman said as they were carrying water back from a local oasis.

Now that the sandstorm had passed, the oasis had appeared. This was just a common way of life for their village. The village was not poor or impoverished. The land gave them everything they needed. Each villager had their own greenhouse with soil collected from other regions since it was hard to grow anything in the desert. They also raised livestock and collected desert insects for extra food. It may have sounded primitive, but it was their way of life and they wouldn't have it any other way.

"Your mother wants us back early, after all she's cooking your favorite meal." Her father said as she had a smile on her face.

Roasted Scorpions. Absolutely delicious. She often referred to them as the 'crab of the desert' (1)

She didn't understand why so many people refused to eat one, they really had no idea what they were missing out on.

But suddenly she saw her father stop.

"Father? Whats wrong?" She asked as she ran up to him and gently placed the pot of water she had been carrying down.

"Millina...look!" He said as he pointed to something in the ground.

And she brought a hand to her mouth in horror.

"Oh my god!" She said as they both realized what they were looking at.

It was a human finger.

"Good god!" They both started digging, hoping that the person the finger belonged to was okay.

While the sand was everywhere and it was hard to brush it all away. Slowly but surely they saw a forearm come into play, and then the upper arm. And finally they saw the faintest hint of brown hair.

"Please don't be dead..." Millina said as she would hate to see someone die like this.

The desert was unforgiving, and death by sandstorm was not a pleasant way to go.

They saw the face of the man they had dug out. He didn't move. His eyes never opened. But her father took two fingers and placed it to his neck.

"He's alive..." Her father breathed out a sigh of relief.

"Quick! Get some water!" Almost immediately she pulled a small waterskin out.

She brought it to the mans lips, hoping something would happen.

"Glu SPRT! KOFF KOFF!" Immediately the man reacted, but he was still too weak to even open his eyes.

"It's alright! You're safe now!" Her father said as they pulled the rest of him out of the sand.

She got a good look at him, most of his clothes had been destroyed by the sandstorm, leaving him in only a shredded up pair of pants and a broken down pair of shoes. He had nothing on him except that. But that wasn't the most unusual thing. He was pale, and his body showed signs of being well fed. In fact, he looked like he came from a life of abundance and privilege when she saw his rather large gut that one would only get from overeating. Strange enough, the rest of his body looked normal except for his belly.

He looked like he might have been from Atlas, what was he doing all the way out here in Vacuo?

By himself...

With no weapon or supplies.

Maybe a airship crashed near here?

"Don't worry boy! We'll take care of you!" Her father said as he lifted the man in his arms bridal style.

What a strange day this was turning out to be.

(1) I've only had scorpions that were dried out like jerky, and the taste was kind of like that, but I've heard that it can also taste more like shrimp/crab depending on how you cook it. Plus with the exoskeleton like crab, I just referred to it like a crab.
