Okay guys, so heres another chapter. Just a filler chapter, and I plan to do a little bit more plot wise in the next few since its still some time for the Vytal tournament. So I may just do a time ship.

"Holy shit..." Jem muttered under his breath.

He had to teach the basics of gun safety again. But it was going slow. He knew he shouldn't have been so judgemental of the woman, but for shits sake, she was almost as clueless about guns as Alec Baldwin. Luckily however, she was willing to learn. So he managed to drill into her head that you treat every gun as if its loaded, he even made sure to annoy her by making her check and recheck her new revolver all over again.

"Is it loaded?" He asked as she nodded.

"Yes." She said.

"Are you sure?" He asked as she looked nervous.

"Uhm." She opened up the revolver wheel to see that it indeed wasn't loaded.

"It doesn't matter if you're completely sure if its not loaded, you check it and make sure you treat it as if it was." He said as she nodded.

"Okay, so what have we learned?"

"Treat every gun as if its loaded, don't point at anything you wish to destory, fingers off the trigger until you're ready to fire." She said the first three no problem.

"And?" He asked as she seemed to be thinking hard.

"Always be sure of your target acquisition?" She said as Jem shrugged.

"Close enough, always be aware of what your target is and whats behind it." So she pretty much had the idea of it down.

"I've never been to a gun range before, this is all so new to me." She said as Jem noticed this place looked dead except for a few police officers.

"I don't get it, these are all open for civilians right?" He asked as he was surprised not to see any there.

"Yes they are, but most of the time its just huntsman and police officer using them." She said as Jem looked around.

While he was glad that they had that much trust in the people protecting them, he couldn't help but feel that the civilians of Mantle weren't being cautious enough. After all, based on what he saw from the show, the police couldn't do much against Grimm, and any huntsman could be overwhelmed by massive hordes of Grimm. In reality, if Grimm were flooding the city like in the later volumes, anyone would be fucked, but at least if the civilians were armed, they could cover an escape.

But even then, he would have to be careful, because he also remembered how desperate the people got and how foolish they acted. He was not one of those Ironwood apologists who think he did nothing wrong. He could understand why Ironwood couldn't trust Team RWBY or JNPR, but he lost his sympathy the moment he was willing to bomb mantle to get Penny back. But at the same time, the people down in Mantle went mad and started destroying their own community. To most that wouldn't seem like a big deal, but if there was one thing he learned about riots, it didn't matter what they were for, someone else always paid the price.

And that price was always the lives of the people they claimed to be fighting for.

Could the situation in Mantle be worse if they were armed? Possibly, but could it also be lessened if they were armed? Possibly.

All Jem knew was that it wasn't his business to decide. It was merely his business to make sure this lady was training to protect herself should the need arise.

"Alright I think you're ready, face out towards the target." He said as she got between the dividers.

"Okay, for this I'll teach you the weaver stance." He made sure to shift her feet so that one was slightly more forward than the other.

"Don't be so stiff, if you lock your arms like that, you're going to waste a lot of energy. Be firm, but also know how to relax the muscles. If you're that tense, you're going to screw yourself every time you shoot." He said as he made sure she wasn't as stiff as a board or loose like Kamala Harris.

"Make sure to line up the sights properly." He said making sure she knew how to line it up for center mass.

"This feels weird." She said as she had never felt a firearm before.

"Thats why we're taking this slow." He said as he checked over everything.

"Alright, there is one round in the weapon." He loaded it himself before he handed it to her.

"Now this is a revolver, so you got to grip it slightly different than mine." He said as he was sure that the blowback from the revolver could hurt you.

To be honest he wasn't as experienced with revolvers. He preferred his regular pistol since it could fit more rounds than a standard six shooter. But he knew enough about proper grip safety.

"Okay, when ready, slowly pull the trigger." He said as she took a deep breath.

He saw her finger slowly pull back.

BANG!

He saw that while she was on the paper target, she still missed the black outline portion.

"Okay, not bad, at least you hit the paper. Most end up missing." He said as she took her finger off the trigger and put it down.

"I would like to try again." She said as Jem recognized the look in her eyes.

It was the look of someone who was about to have a lifelong addiction. He understood it well.

The feeling you got from firing your weapon.

The smell of the gunpowder...

The idea that you could hit your target.

It was better than crack.

Winter

Winter was honestly shocked. General Ironwood had called her into his office. She wasn't sure what was going on. But now she saw him politely speaking to another man in uniform. Usually that wouldn't be an issue except for one thing. The man was wearing a camouflage pattern unique to Earth.

"You're Jem's grandfather?" She asked as she didn't believe the general would bring another earthling to Remnant.

"One of them yes, the general here wanted to see if there was anything I could teach these young men." That was the abridged version of the story.

Reggie was honestly glad to be back in uniform. He hadn't worn this since his tim with the Selous Scouts. But he was happy to report that it still fit him like a glove.

"Forgive me, but I find that hard to believe." She said as she didn't know enough about the military forces of Earth.

She knew only what Jem had told her. And she was certain they never had to fight big monsters like Atlesian forces.

"Let's just say I have a way of surprising you." He said as Winter decided to go along with it.

She was however surprised by the short shorts he was wearing.

"Uhm, forgive me but those don't seem like an appropriate choice for uniform." That just made the man laugh.

"Well if I was going out to fight in the heat, I may as well be comfortable."

Reggie already felt more alive than he had in years. After he left Rhodesia, he moved to South Africa where he joined up with the South African Defense force before he eventually met his wife and they both decided to move to America. Despite enjoying his new found life, he couldn't help but feel nostalgia for a land that no longer existed. Throughout the years he would hear news about it, about how far the country had fallen since Mugabe seized power. He could remember hearing the news about the Gukurahundi and couldn't believe how violent it had become. The bush war itself was a crazy time in itself. But who would have thought that the violence had only just begun.

Eventually he had to turn off the news when he heard about the widespread famine after the farms were redistributed to farmers loyal only to Mugabe and Zanu PF. It was too painful to hear about the suffering of his once proud nation. (1)

But now he felt like he had a second wind come up out of him.

And if there was one thing he wanted to do right now was relive the days he had where he felt the most alive.

Ironwood only knew about the history that he had discussed with Reggie. But he had so many more things to share.

And he personally couldn't wait to see how these Atlesian soldiers stood up to his tests.

He could only hope that he could somehow convince one of them to unlock his aura.

He was still strong for his age. But when the general had told them about the superhuman strength and speed that could come with unlocking his aura, he had been hooked on the idea. To think that a power like that could give him the strength and stamina of a younger man was an addicting thought.

Every old man thought about how he could run and gun when he was young.

But very few got the oppurtunity to try and relive that to the fullest.

He would just have to get into the generals good graces.

(1) To put it simply, after the Rhodesian Bush war, Robert Mugabe became a dictator, confiscated land from the white zimbabweans and gave it to farmers loyal to his party. but due to the massive change, they ended up causing a massive famine due to lack of access to fertilizer, the farmers themselves being inexperienced with massive amounts of land, and a bunch of other factors that lead to a widespread famine across that country.

The Gukurahundi was a time period where the Nbedele were slaughtered in the thousands by the Mugabe regime.
