"Sorry I couldn't be there buddy." Jem said as he was sitting in front of a fresh burial mound with a black marble slate across it.
'ZEUS'
Jem had taken a break to come back to Earth when his family had told him that Zeus had passed away. He had been expecting it for awhile. But Zeus was a tough old dog. Doctors didn't think he would make it past 12, but he made it all the way to 15. Even when Jem was away in the army and his family thought that Zeus was on his last legs. In another day or two he would be back up and at it with that same goofy grin.
Only this time he couldn't get back up.
Cancer was too much.
Blake may not have liked the dog, but even she didn't want to see him die. So she could understand why Jem was so upset.
Zeus had been a part of his life for nine years. He was there when he started and finished college. He was there when he first enlisted and when he got his DD214. He had been with Jem through a lot.
Sadly nothing lasts forever.
Nala and Winter were comforting him as he let his tears out over the grave of his beloved dog.
He knew he had a good life but it didn't stop it from hurting.
That was life. God would give you many gifts through life. But eventually everyone had to be called back home, whether it was a pet or a friend. Everyone would eventually be called home. Jem had no doubt he would see him again.
"I'll see you again...but not yet..." He said as he got up to go back inside.
He was gonna miss his old friend.
Okay guys, I just wanted to add this chapter because recently Chance, the dog who I based Zeus on passed away.
He had cancer, and sadly I found out they had to put him down when I got back from work.
I didn't get to say goodbye. And it sucks. But he had a good nine years with us. And he had a very good life full of treats and toys.
Sucks that hes gone. But I'll appreciate the memories I have of him.
