Chapter 4 The Seeker In The Yellow Coat
Sophie could only stare at the new blonde, her body tensed up. A eerie feeling began to creep in the bottom of her stomach. "Who are you ?" She demanded, getting into a familiar stance. Hands clenched, her knuckles turning white.
The blonde shook his head gently, his grin turned from haunting to pure arrogance. "Now now, that's not how it works." He began to walk around Sophie. "One gives their own name, before asking for another's."
Sophie immediately began to walk the same direction as him, keeping in front of him. Not daring to let him escape her sights. "My name is Sophie Casterwill, and I am not alone." She decreed as she tied a gray amulet around her neck.
Lok took a moment to look at the amulet, it was a gray amulet. Upon further inspection, he noticed it took the shape of an arrow head. Two horns resembling swirled ram horns on the top of the amulet. A light blue trim surrounding the light gray gem.
A small chuckle escaped his lips as he stood in place. "Oh we know, we noticed your little friend a few rooftops away." He began to reach into his back pocket, pulling out a pair of black leather gloves.
Sophie's eyes widened in surprise as she immediately took a step back. "What have you done to Santiago?" She yelled at him restraining her self from charging him. The surprise turning into an unyielding rage.
He only let out another chuckle as he placed the gloves over his hands. He methodically stretched his fingers, making sure the gloves were on perfectly. He smiled as he clenched his fist and the familiar groans of the leather reached his ears.
"I haven't done anything, but my friend is keeping him busy." He rolled his neck letting out a soft pop as he began to roll his shoulders. "Oh, and I'm Lok by the way." He stated simply as in a flash of a moment he was suddenly at her. Right fist clenched, aiming to make contact with her left cheek.
She let out a small gasp as she immediately leaned back from the punch. Arching her back, she watched as the leather covered fist almost brush against her check. Quickly recovering, she went to drive her right knee into his side.
Lok used his left hand to catch the knee, holding it in place. Sliding his right foot around her left ankle, he shoved his body into her. Using her weight against her, as her back made solid contact with the ground below them.
"What's wrong problem girl ? Mommy and daddy couldn't teach you any better ?" Lok asked, amusement dripping from his words. He had placed his midsection between her legs, and during the scuffle he had gotten a hold of her wrist.
Sophie's eyes narrowed at the statement, she felt the urge to let out a snarl. The only thing she could do is stare at the arrogant blonde. However, she promised her self one thing. She was going to wipe the smile off his face.
She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling her arms to her sides she yanked him closer to her. Bucking her hips for leverage, she reeled her head back and drove it into the man's eye brow. Smiling as she heard the grunt of pain escape his lips. And the grip on her wrists were no more.
Keeping her legs wrapped around his waist, she took her now free left hand and snagged his tie in her fingers. Roughly pulling on it, she dragged his face down to her and delivered a sharp elbow to his face. She repeated the movement for a few more strikes until his left hand reached under her right arm and clenched tightly around her throat.
Her hands instinctually reached for the hand shutting off her oxygen. She looked back up to him as something warm dripped onto her face. Staring back at her was Lok, a wicked grin on his face. His bottom lip was split open, and a gash on his eye brow. Blood dripping from the head wound and on her right cheek.
"A little bit of advice for your next life." A amused chuckle escaped his lips, his tongue reached past his lips and cleaned a small trail of blood that was treating to run down to his chin.
"when you go to head butt someone, aim for the bridge of the nose. More effective." His hand began to glow a dark angry red. "Now then, since you treated me to a bit of fun. I'm gonna show you a neat little party trick I invented."
The glowing gloved hand began to reach down and went under her shirt gently covering her stomach. A small tingling sensation ran up her spine at the surprisingly warm, and gentle touch. She tried to fight back a shiver, but her body betrayed her.
His head went next to her right ear, his hot breath tingling her ear and neck. "My friend Wilder thought it was a real gut buster." He whispered cooly, his hand gently turning horizontal. As he whispered one single word. "Impale."
"No my lady !" A strict voice called out. Lok's head shot up, letting out a curse as he jumped away from the girl below him. A few shuriken spinning towards him, he lifted his left arm over his body and chanted a spell. "Armorbrand !" He yelled out as a light blue bubble enveloped him, protecting his body from the steel.
Sophie immediately shot back to her feet, watching the steel stars clash into the shield. The stars clattering to the ground after making contact with the magic. However she was mostly focused on the foot long spike of red energy protruding from Lok's right hand.
Her hand reached to the spot where his hand once was, feeling no pain or blood. She let out a sigh as a figure appeared in a flash in front of her.
Standing taller than her self, was an older man with brown hair in a long ponytail. He wore a grayish blue marshal arts gi, with black foot wear. It was her personal protector Santiago.
As the shield dropped from around Lok, the red spike began to slowly retract back into his open gloved palm. "You know, it's rude to cut into a dance like that." Lok's head tilted in slight curiosity. His hands reaching back into his pockets. "You must be Santiago, right ?"
Santiago merely snarled at the blonde, standing protectively in front of Sophie. "You will not lay another finger on my lady." His voice firm, like a knight standing against someone who dishonored his queen.
Lok let out a small laugh as he pulled his right hand from his pocket. Holding it up towards the two, his fingers gently flexing. "Well I already placed five on her Royal Highness. Why not an even ten?"
Santiago took one step forward, his right hand reaching in his coat and pulling out a green shuriken style amulet. Holding it out in front of him, the gem of the amulet glowed gently. "Over my dead body!" He roared out.
Lok reached up and put his thumb under his collar, pulling slowly as a strap of an amulet began to show. Incubane's amulet slowly emerged from his shirt, swaying side to side. Lok let out an amused laugh. "Now, that can most certainly be arranged."
The two men stared one another down for a few moments, until a grunt of pain pulled their attention away. Lok turned to see his friend Jenna limping towards him. She was covered in cuts and a bruise formed over her left eye. Barely noticeable from it being covered from her sunglasses.
Lok's rage only boiled as he raced to his friend. Wrapping her arm over his shoulder. "Jenna, you alright ?" He asked, his tone calm. However someone might find his tone mildly eerie with how calm it was.
"I'm fine, sorry. He is a sneaky ninja freak." Jenna bit out, a scowl forming on her face. Feeling a slight shame with how much she was caught off guard. She looked back at her friend and smirked. "You look like shit."
Before another work could be said, a small explosion went off in front of them. Followed by a cloud of smoke, blocking the vision of their pray. After a few moments, the smoke cleared leaving the two of them alone on the roof.
"shit." Jenna mumbled under her breath. Lok shifted her slightly, he turned to her fixing her with a glance. "Why didn't you use everfight?" He asked with an innocent tone.
Jenna gave him a light jab in the ribs. "I'm tapped out you idiot. As much as I hate to admit it, the ninja man had some skills." Lok merely nodded his head in response.
"Sophie Casterwill hm?" He hummed to himself staring at the place the two people once stood. "This isn't over problem girl." He glared out to the rooftops of Venice.
Venice, Italy
Cathy could only groan as she began to pick her self back up. Turing to the suits and titans, she dug down deep and sprinted down a random alleyway. She began to quickly shift through the pages in her hand, looking for any address attached to the name Vale.
After a few close calls and dodges from the suits powers, she finally got a sense of where she was at. Flipping to the last page, she couldn't help but feel exhausted from the running and stress.
"come on, it has to be around here somewhere. I can't keep running anymore." She huffed out, looking around the area for any sign of a building or street. As she looked around, she couldn't help but noticed she was surrounded.
To her left was the blonde suit and his Mind drone, in front of her was the red haired suit and her Redcap, and to bring it all home to her right was Owen and his titan. She was trapped, no more running. She couldn't fight, the only thing she did was walk backwards past an open gate.
Before she could get a single word out a bolt of energy struck her. Nocking the wind out of her lungs. She slammed on her back, staring at the sky above her. Testing began to welt up in her eyes. Clamping them shut so that the tears wouldn't escape, and she might have a moment of peace before her end.
After a few moments, she opened her eyes. Foolishly hoping they were gone, and she would be home free. However she only looked around to realize she was surrounded. Was this how it was going to end?
The hope she had gained when she found her father's journal, the mentioning of her long lost brother's name, the friendship she had with Sophie, all gone. Not going to matter here in a few moments.
On the thought of her friend, she finally let a tear slip down her cheek. She had left her behind, an act of cowardice. Yes, she had told Cathy to run. However she still hated her self for leaving her behind. She hope she was safe, at least she would have the peace of mind.
"Yes sir, we have the target. Sending out location now." The blonde suite spoke into a headset he was wearing. He looked down at Cathy an amused smile on his face. "You gave us a lot of trouble. I'm almost impressed.
Great, I'm glad I was able to impress you ass holes. Cathy thought to her self, only to look behind him and a look of horror took over her features. Behind them was a man, wearing a yellow trench coat. A paper bag covering his face.
"Excuse me, is someone there? Mind giving me a hand ? I'm loaded down with all these groceries." The man's voice sounded whimsical, almost comforting to Cathy all things considered in her current situation.
"Augerfrost!" Owen yelled out as the blue energy shot towards the man. He didn't want to hurt him, only scare him. He had already dragged to many people into this situation. He didn't want to add more.
To everyone's surprise, the blue bolt was blocked by a light golden bubble the surrounded the man. He merely walked forward, acting as if nothing had happened.
Walking into the mixed group of humans and titans, with a calm and confident stride. None of them made a move mostly due to their stunned expressions. Standing in front of Cathy, he turned his head down to her. "Hey, you okay ?"
Cathy couldn't say much of anything. After seeing a display like that, she wasn't sure if she was dreaming. Or just so happened to win the lottery of life. She gently nodded her head. As she took in the man's features.
He looked to be in his late twenties. Dark red hair that reached to his ears. Parted in the middle of his forehead, his face slightly covered due to a goatee that shared the same red as his hair. Cathy couldn't help but blush at the man. Feeling comfort from his gaze, she wondered what color his eyes were. He had been wearing a pair of dark green tinted sunglasses.
"well, I'm not going to lie. I have been better." She stated as gently picked her self back off the ground. Unbeknownst to her, the newcomer had let out a gasp as he saw a glow come from her left front pocket.
He smirked as he came to realize something. "It's time for you guys to go." He stated calmly as he stared down at the group of suits surrounding them. "You can go quietly, or be taken out with the trash. Your choice."
The blonde suit scowled as he raised his head in the air. "No one defies the organization." With a crisp snap of his finger the two Redcaps charged to the man in yellow. "Get him !"
He simply stared as the two titans charged at him, their claws looking to cut him to ribbons. "Hyperstride!" He yelled out the word as a blue glow overtook his legs. With a jump he soared over the two titans and landed on the top of a wall. The suits turned around to face him.
In his escape, he had dropped the forgotten groceries and now missing the sunglasses. A pair of amber colored eyes started down at the group. With his eyes filled with amusement, he reached into his coat pocket and proceeded to pull out an amulet.
It looked to be a stone gray, three small horns protruding at the bottom. The horns pointed downwards with a curve. A bright blue gem shined brightly, the black lines running around the amulet in a unique pattern only emphasize the gem.
"I warned you." A smile began to form on his lips. He raised his hand in the air as a blue glow began to envelope his body. "Come out and play, Caliban!" He called out to the titan residing in the amulet.
With a bright blue of energy, a tall aztec styled warrior emerged from the light. The warrior had a long white main that resembled a lions. It was intimidating, the armor resembling the color of its amulet. Two gauntlets covered its forearms. Small horns curved downwards overtop of its hands. It was wearing a mask, three small holes where the mouth would be gave it a menacing expression. On its back was a sheath sword. With a quick motion the titan drew the blade.
The two Redcaps charged forward to the two enemies. With a single command, the red haired man jumped off the wall and charged forward. Caliban crouched down, analyzing the two Redcaps.
The Redcaps charged to the man, only for him to side step at the last second and trip the titan to the ground. The Redcap let out a roar and stood back up, its twin stopped charging and stood behind its fellow titan.
With a loud crash, Caliban landed next to them. Slamming its sword into the face of one of the Redcaps. Making it fly into the brick wall to its left. With a shine of silver, the blade cut down the center of the Redcap that was standing.
A golden line began to form where Caliban's blade had sliced. The creature flopped into two pieces as its physical form turned into energy. The energy returning to the red haired suit.
"Now then, let's settle this like men." He called out to the two suits in front of him. The two men charged at him as he gracefully deflected their strikes and kicks. Grabbing Owen by the leg, he heaved him over his shoulder and to the ground.
While the men were having a round of fisticuffs, the read haired suit began to build energy in her left hand. Thankfully Cathy had seen this, and wasn't going to allow it. Looking around, she had spotted a sturdy looking branch.
Picking it up, she found the heft of the make shift weapon acceptable. Sneaking up on the suit, she reached back and swing the branch. Clocking her on the back of the head. God that was cathartic, she thought to her self as she looked at the man. "Let me guess, you're Dante Vale right ?"
He dusted his hands off after throwing the blonde suit into a dumpster. Turing back to Cathy he gave a quick nod. "That would be me." He responded curtly as he looked behind Cathy.
The Mind drone making a charge towards the two of them. Dante quickly reached into his pocket and drew out another amulet. This one being gold with a green gem in the center. "Soulwing !" He called out as a green light shined from the amulet.
Cathy could only let out an astonished gasp as a blur of green and feathers rushed past her and pierced the single eye of the Mind drone, making it return to its amulet. She followed the stream of red energy as he returned to the suit who was stumbling out of the dumpster.
He gave out a quick order to retreat as all the suits fallowed after him. Owen carrying an unconscious redhead. Shouting out calls of you'll he sorry, or something of the sort. Cathy didn't much care, just happy that it was all over.
"what, what is all of this?" Cathy manage to choke out, her throat dry after the events of today. Looking back at the titans Dante had summoned, she got a good look at Soulwing . It simple looked like a falcon, but wearing a golden neckless and royal looking headpiece, the head peice had a red mesh on the front.
Dante looked around him, the damaged courtyard. The discarded groceries. He simply shrugged and held his hands up gesturing to everything around him. "This, this is my house. Come on, let's get inside" he stated as he recalled the two titans and collect his groceries.
Venice, Italy - Dante's homeAfter coming into Dane's home, and everything was settled. Cathy came into newfound knowledge on today's proceedings. The people that were after her are called the organization.
A group of people who want to collect artifacts and power titans to rule from the shadows. Titans being a magical force of creatures that are seals inside of amulets. Not much other than that was known about them. They had been in our world since recorded time.
People who have these powers and titans are called Seekers. Dante being a seeker himself obviously. Apparently her father was one as well.
Now she was sitting at a desk across from Dante, trying to wrap her head around the whole ordeal. "So what you are saying is, since I've come into contact with this amulet. I'm pretty much screwed." Cathy deadpanned staring down at the white amulet she had found this morning.
Dante gave a simple nod in response. "That and this journal." He held the ruined book in front of himself. Setting it back on the table and placed a hand on top of it. "Or at least what's left of it at least. But don't give up hope, I have some friends in the Huntik foundation that can keep you safe."
Hearing those words, she should felt comforted by them. However, the only thing she felt in that moment was a white hot rage. Slamming her hands on the table she shot up. Her eyes clenched shut. "No! No more amulets, no more titans!"
She walked away from the table arms crossed, hugging herself. Wishing today was all a bad dream. "You have no idea, you have no idea what I have been through today." The emotional stress, the fear of death almost welcoming her with open arms.
Dante's eyes became filled with sympathy, and a little bit of worry. "Cathy." He started of gently until the furious eyes of the blonde cut him off. She marched up to the table and slammed the amulet on it.
"No! You can keep this, and the stupid journal. I don't care that these things belonged to my dad!" She roared, tired of today. Wishing for it all to be over and done with.
With a crisp turn on her heels, she began to make her way to the door. Stewing on the raw emotion running through her at the moment. As she placed her hand on the doorknob Dante's force broke her out of her march.
"Hold it ! You are not going to get off that easy." His tone started off fierce, before returning to a normal calm. As Cathy turned to him again. He was already holding up the amulet. "You're already apart of this secret world."
Cathy's eye brow raised in confusion at the statement. "My father's amulet? What about it ?" She asked as her anger slowly melted away as her curiosity took over.
"It was your father's amulet this morning, but at some point today it bonded to you." He stated as he placed it gently on the table. "Had anything happened to you ? Something that you couldn't really explain?"
Cathy could think of just one thing. Her ability to levitate, not to mention the green glow that overtook her in a time of need. "Now that you mentioned it." Before she could continue, the amulet glowed a faint green and gravitated back to her. She gently reached out and picked it from the air into her palm.
"just like your father, you're a seeker now." He stated simply as he saw the look of awe overcome her features, gently cradling the amulet in her palm. She was brought out of her thoughts by a familiar voice.
"He is right you know friend, once you've been around for as long as I have been. You tend to pick up on a few things." Turing her head she looked at a small white winged creature. No bigger than a house cat, yellow eyes looked back into her blue.
"Hey, you're the one from the rooftops !" She called out to the white furred creature. He merely flapped his wings and came up to her. Giving her a small wave. "When a bond is formed between a titan and a seeker, a powerful ability may emerge."
"Cathy, forget Cherit for a minute and check this out." Dante called out. Not liking his tone, she let out a small groan and joined him at the window. "What now ?" She managed to groan out.
"Someone, just raised the stakes." He said looking out to the courtyard of his home. Cathy looked past his shoulder and gulped. Standing in the courtyard were countless suits. Three standing out from the rest, standing in front of the group were two blondes, and a brown haired man.
Defoe couldn't help but smile, as his right and left hand men stood beside in front of his rivals home. "The women, the journal, and the hated Dante vale. We will get them all together." His voice now dripping with a venomous glee.
Authors notes- With that, chapter four comes to a close . A few things I wanted to go over with all of you. First things first, this will be the last chapter that I just shoot for five or four thousand words. I will now be covering one whole episodeper a chapter. I'm going to try and shoot for at least one chapterevery two weeks.
Another thing, titans. I don't really plan on having any OC titans until the short story spin offs. However, I will be pulling some titans from the comics. So do look forward to that.
The same goes for OC characters, Iwon't be having any until the stand alone story. However I may have a no name pop up for a few paragraphs to move the story along.
With that being said, I hope you have enjoyed the story so far! I'll see youguys in the next one.
