Tony Stark sat impatiently in the Shield blacksite. He was more than ready to head back to Malibu, or better yet finally convince Pepper to go to Venice for a much needed, (and well deserved if you asked him) vacation, now that he wasn't you know, dying anymore. At least not quickly as he was a couple of days ago.

His curiosity finally got the best of him and he decided to glance at the files that were obviously laid out to bait him.

"I don't think I want you looking at that. I'm not sure it pertains to you anymore," Director Fury seemed to appear out of the shadows, as per usual and handed Tony a different file, "Now this on the other hand, is Agent Romanoff's assessment of you. Read it."

"Personality overview. Mr. Stark displays compulsive behaviour. In my own defence, that was last week. Prone to self-destructive tendencies. I was dying. I mean, please. Aren't we all? Textbook narcissism? Agreed. Okay, here it is," Tony's eyes quickly scanned to the bottom of the page, "Recruitment assessment for Avenger Initiative. Iron Man? Yes. I gotta think about it."

Fury smirked before pointing at the file, "Read on."

"Tony Stark not… Not recommended? That doesn't make any sense. How can you approve me but not approve me? I got a new ticker. I'm trying to do right by Pepper. I'm in a stable-ish relationship."

Fury walked round and rested against the table by Tony's chair.

"Which leads us to believe at this juncture we'd only like to use you as a consultant." Tony stood up and shook Fury's hand before patting his shoulder.

"You can't afford me." As he began to walk off Fury spoke up.

"I thought you'd say that, but you might want to take a look at this before you make a final decision."

Tony turned back around and saw a smug Fury holding two more files.

Curious as ever he quickly grabbed them out of the director's hand and saw that they were both stamped CONFIDENTIAL in large red block letters, furthering his intrigue.

"I'd start with this one." Fury pointed at the top file.

As Tony lifted the cover he paused as his eyes rested on a very familiar face.

"Genny." Tony felt as though the air had gotten knocked out of him and quickly sat down. Genevieve Bonham was a painful memory that he kept locked up tighter than Fort Knox. He spent years partying and flouncing around with models to try to forget the first woman he had ever loved, not truly being able to let someone else in until Pepper.

"Auror Genevieve Bonham of the British Ministry of Magic. I understand that you two were quite close." Fury stated nonchalantly as if he were talking about the weather.

Tony's head was spinning not really comprehending what the director had just said.

"Why do you have a file on Genny?" Tony's hands had become ashen white from holding his fists so tight.

"Mr. Stark there is an entire world out there that you are completely oblivious to, as are most people. And your former better half is a part of that world. There's been wars fought in the shadows going all the way back to World War Two, and Shield along with the other various government operations have worked hard to keep it from the public. Miss Bonham was an unfortunate casualty of that war."

Tony's heart sank and he felt like he had just gotten punched in the gut.

"She's dead." He couldn't pull his eyes away from her picture. She looked just as he remembered her; flawless mahogany brown skin, light hazel eyes, and the same crooked smile that used to blind him and make his heart race. Is this what she meant when she said she wanted to protect him? Why hadn't she come to him? Thousands of questions raced through his head as he tried to make sense of the situation.

"Unfortunately yes she is, she was ambushed in her home in 1994," Fury stated bluntly, "When you met Auror Bonham she was here on assignment to track a magical terrorist cell here in the states. Her superiors were aware of your relationship, but concluded that as long as it didn't interfere with her task then she was free to stay."

"Then why did she leave? She just up and disappeared out of the blue." Tony was still trying to wrap his head around everything he was hearing. Magic was a thing that actually existed, he guessed? Why didn't Genny tell him? It wouldn't have changed the way he felt about her. At that point in his life she was truly the only thing he cared about and he would have done anything for her.

"There is a law in her world called the International Statute of Secrecy. It was put in effect after the witch trials back in Salem in order to hide the existence of witches and wizards from the rest of the world. If she had told you the truth she would be in violation of the statute and would have been subject to a number of different punishments, including prison." Fury paused turning the page for Tony which showed a request for immediate transfer in Genevieve's handwriting.

"She asked to leave?"

Fury sighed rubbing his forehead motioning to the paper, "She wrote a letter to her commanding officer. You should read it, Stark. Things should become more clear."

Head Auror Moody,

I am requesting for immediate transfer back to London. Though my surveillance on the death eater cell in California has been successful, I have recently become compromised. You are aware that I have been in a relationship with a muggle, and I have recently learned that I am with child. I cannot afford to bring Tony into this, as it would cloud my judgement. To ensure his safety and that of our child I am returning to London and cutting ties, it is too dangerous for him to be involved. And I request that my file be sent to the muggle intelligence organization SHIELD should anything happen to me Tony will be able to know the truth.

Best regards,

Auror Genevieve Bonham

"She was pregnant." Tony couldn't believe what he just read. Genny had been pregnant. He had a child out there somewhere.

What we created is something beautiful and magical, beyond what I could have ever hoped for.

She wrote that in the letter that she left for him. Was that her way of trying to tell him? He couldn't help but feel a little betrayed.

"Which leads us to the second file," Fury slid the thick gray folder over with a grin, "Congratulations Stark, it's a girl."

Tony hesitated before opening the file and his breath caught once he laid eyes on the page in front of him. It was a surveillance photo of a teenage girl; she had light brown skin maybe a shade lighter than Genevieve, a button nose, thick light brown curls formed a halo around her head, but most importantly she had his eyes.

His eyes moved down the page and he could feel a soft smile slip on his face when he saw her name.

Violetta Marie Bonham.

"It seems your child inherited your pension for causing trouble Stark." Fury stated, flipping the page over showing a wanted poster with Violetta's face on it with the words UNDESIRABLE NO. 2 printed boldly over her picture, and under it a 10,000 galleon reward for her head, making Tony frown.

"What is this?" Tony could feel his anxiety flare up. Until about 5 minutes ago he didn't even know he was a father, and now his kid was on a wanted poster.

"She helped bring an end to a genocidal tyrant who went by the name Voldemort, the same one her mother fought. But not before he managed to gain control of the Ministry, who put bounties on anyone who actively fought against them," Fury pinched his nose taking a deep exhausted breath, "it was a real shit show. The destruction of the Brockdale & Millennium bridges in London, the freak hurricanes in West Country, the mass killings all over the UK; they were all his doing."

Tony felt like he wanted to jump out of his skin, yet he was immobilized in his seat. He needed Pepper, she would know what to do, she always knew what to do.

"Where is she?" He could barely verbalize his frustration and anxiety. It was a strange feeling, suddenly caring so much about someone you don't even know. This girl was a part of him and she was out there, in his mind, all alone, fighting for her life.

"Scotland, rebuilding her school. Their last stand against Voldemort completely demolished the old castle, they've spent the last month burying their dead and cleaning up the mess he created."

Burying their dead.

His kid was really in the middle of a war, the same war that killed her mother. He couldn't believe it. Genny was really dead. He was really a father. Him. Of all people. The poor kid didn't have a chance. Tony was not paternal by any means. He didn't exactly have the best example of what a father should be. His father was indifferent at best, and down right cold on his tougher days.

But Tony wasn't Howard. He wasn't even the same man that he had been a few years ago. He saved people now, he managed to cheat death once again, he had finally managed to connect with a woman other than Genny, he was somewhat a responsible adult now, and he owed it to Genny to look after their daughter. Their 18 year old flesh and blood daughter, a perfect mix of the two of them.

"I want to see her."

"You can't just waltz into the ministry demanding to see one of their war heroes Stark. There's still rules in place," Fury stoic as ever crossed his arms lazily," I have a contact in their world. Auror Bonham's cousin, Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt was just named their interim Minister of Magic, he'll relay the message."

Tony was not known for his patience. In fact, he was best known for his erratic and impulsive decisions.

As if he could read Tony's mind Fury narrowed his one good eye at the billionaire.

"The last thing we need is you causing another international incident, for once in your life be patient and listen."

Once again patience was not his strong suit.
