So kind of just realized with that last chapter was more in line with The Ballad of Lost C'mell than most of the relationships in my Humanimal Universe inspired by Cordwainer Smith, it is said that The Ballad of Lost 'C'mell was inspired by the 'conspiritorial scenes' in the Chinese Epic The Romance of the Three Kingdoms which is funny because our hero Glass Joe isn't a politiction he's a working class boxer doing this at the behest of his friend who's been in the military that aside, if you're a fan of the Nancy Drew games keep your eyes peeled for a reference in this chapter!
For Dana getting information from the Turtles was more difficult than expected, since she was an 'adult' she could not enlist as a student in Leo's martial arts school and also the Turtles tended to keep their secrets pretty close and they often weren't in forest, being born and bred in the city they tended to spend most of their time on the 'human side'
However Dana quickly found an opening in Micelangelo, the Youngest Brother when he was in Forest loved to bask in the company of his 'fans' mostly the various Mutant Children of Forest but Dana knew someone who would be a sucker for the flattery of an attractive female.
So she buttered him up before slyly saying something along the lines about 'hearing something about that incident with the Wolf Troubadour...' And Mikey would turn bashful and say "Yeah...We've been keeping our eyes peeled when we go around the city so far any Humanimals in frilly pants who sing have so far completely disappeared!"
Well it wasn't much but Dana felt desperate to give a report because her skill at flattery came from her training in the art of seducation, she felt no atttraction to Mikey as a male turtle, she didn't even feel any attraction towards fellow dogs who were among the most numerous Mutant species in forest with domestic cats and rat tied for close second so she had no shortage for potential mate options but no she was only attracted to humans, and she had her eye on one particular human male the French Boxer Glass Joe, so she called him and said she had gotten a little information and asked where he would like to meet, she was thrilled when he suggested his favorite place to get authentic French food in NYC, Cafe Kiki...Seemed like an actual date!
They sat at a table on the patio, Dana was really grateful that these tables had built in holes she could slip her tail through and was grateful she wasn't a creature with a much thicker tail like a crocodile or a kangaroo or even worse a beaver!
As he was a regular the Wait Staff knew to give Joe his usual coffee and baguettes as an appitizer.
"I've never seen anyone just eat a whole baguette before..." Dana said "...Like not as part of a sandwich, and no condiments on it not even butter? Seems like it would just be a jaw workout!"
But after the Waiter left them with the appitizers Dana quickly gave Joe what dirt she had dug up from Micelangelo about how since that incident with the Wolf any Troubadour Humanimals had seemed to had vanished from New York City for the time being.
Joe quickly wrote all this down a notebook "That is worth knowing..." He said quietly "...That implies all the Troubadours were connected and that Wolf in particular had poor impulse control or seemed his temper flared up when some Male Humanimals interupted his...Seduction..."
Dana winced at the mention of 'seduction' as she obviously didn't want Glass Joe to catch on to that was what she was attempting to do with him.
"However..." Joe sighed "...The fact they've all vanisished for the time being also seems to signal we've caught on and they will probably try something else to not be noticed...And what's more we still don't know who they are and if they are connected to the Queen."
The Waiter came back and Joe quickly put his notebook.
"Are you ready to order?" He asked
Dana took another look at the menu and sighed
"What would you recommend Joe?" She asked "Looking at this menu it's all Greek to me..."
Joe looked at Dana and because of large muscles he figured she needed a hearty meal that would stick to her ribs one thing he liked about Cafe Kiki was they refused to give 'American-Sized' portions however what he had he had gathered about Mutants was they all seemed to have big appetites even if they were from physically smaller species they often had a faster metabolism so keeping in mind that as a carnivore she probobly needed a lot of protien he reccomended the Cassoulet a casserole comprised of meat, pork skin and white beans...
