The obnoxious ring of her alarm wakes up as she groans out, groggy from staying up too late looking through her phone. She's had conversations with almost all of her classmates and one she didn't recognize. Consisting of mainly cat puns and training gossip, Kagome couldn't figure out who it would be. Yet recently their messages to her were about her coming home safe and that they missed her. Besides all of that, she was only able to get about three hours of sleep.
A knock from her door jolts her completely awake, another groan passing her lips. "Who is it?"
"It's Ochaco!" the girl cheers from the other side. "Can I come in?"
"Sure," Kagome states as the door opens, not surprised she hadn't locked it after coming in last night.
"Are you feeling alright? You look dead." Ochaco sits on the edge of the bed, a concerned look on her face. "Did you have a nightmare?"
"I'm fine," Kagome yawns softly. "Just looked through my phone like you guys said." Ochaco nearly gasps with excitement, the same question at the tip of her tongue. "I'm just confused on who Hitoshi is."
"Oh! You two have been training together," Ochaco beams. "And he calls you damsel a lot, too."
"Yeah, I saw that in our messages," she laughs softly. Kagome gets off her bed and changes into her hero costume. "And cat puns."
"That sounds pawful," Ochaco laughs teasingly as Kagome throws her night shirt at her. Once Kagome was done, they head out of her room and towards the gym for training. It was just day two and Kagome was still trying to get into rhythm with her class, yet they seemed so much further ahead of her.
With everyone in their areas again, Kagome sighs and calls for Midoriko. Perhaps being exhausted could help with her stamina, but she wasn't crossing her fingers. Midoriko instructs her to make a bow, this time focusing on sending the arrows out in quick succession. "How many clones can we get over here, Ectoplasm?" Midoriko asks the hero.
"How many are you needing?"
"Too many," she sighs softly. More clones appear around Kagome as targets. "I'll be timing you on how fast you take out all of these clones." Kagome nods in defeat, knowing her body would be screaming at her later. "Faster, Kagome." Drill sergeant Midoriko wasn't letting her catch her breath, telling her to push herself further.
"L-lady Midoriko, please," Kagome pants harshly as she keeps firing her arrows. Her head was spinning and she felt closer to fainting by the second.
"You're better than this, Kagome," the older Priestess glares. "Keep pushing until you collapse."
"Mido-"
"How do you expect to get stronger? By moping around because you lost your memory isn't going to cut it." Midoriko crosses her arms sternly, already tired of how distracted Kagome was with that missing part of her. Yet at the same time, she could blame her. Kagome bites her lip, only able to keep one eye open as she continues firing. "Keep pushing!" Tears spill down Kagome's cheeks as her body collapses after another few shots. Midoriko catches her before she could hit the ground. "Rest for a few hours, Kagome. You've earned in." Kagome weakly smiles at the older Priestess, closing her eyes tiredly. Midoriko takes her to her dorm and lays her down on her bed. She smiles softly at Kagome's sleeping form, brushing a stray hair behind her ear.
Kagome awakens with a gasp, sitting up quickly and holding her head. Panting slightly as sweat beads down her neck, Kagome tries to remember what her dream had been about. Shaking her head and throwing her blanket off, she finds she is still in her costume and it was currently 8pm. Sighing, Kagome changes into casual clothes and heads down to the common area. Most of her classmates were relaxing on the couches just chatting about what they had accomplished today and what they could improve. Everyone's auras were calm and full of hope and it made Kagome smile to herself. This was definitely her life now and she was really starting to enjoy it and the people in it.
Lost in thought, Kagome walks into someone and almost falls if not for being caught by whoever she had bumped into. "Ah! Sorry! I wasn't-"
"You're alright, Kagome," Todoroki's calm voice says. "I'm glad to see you're finally awake." Kagome blushes brightly, the close proximity making her heart race. Yet at the same time she felt like he had held her like this before. Kagome takes a step back to create some distance between them as she stares at the ground.
"Th-thanks, Todo-"
"Call me Shoto," he smiles slightly.
"Thanks, Shoto, for catching me," Kagome mutters as she plays with the bottom of her shirt. Shifting her gaze from the floor, Kagome smiles back at him. Her heart was pounding in her ears, yet she felt completely calm around him. His eyes bore into her, almost enchanting her with the depth of unspoken emotion dancing behind them.
Todoroki found himself a bit upset that she had stepped away from him, confused as to why he wanted to hold her longer. Yet he understood why she was acting like this and it left his heart aching. So many emotions have risen inside of him since he met her and every single one left him with more questions than answers, all because of her and the way she could make someone feel special. But now she doesn't remember him and that alone made him curse the world. "I've seen a bit of how your training is going," he speaks up after a moment. "It's impressive how much you've grown since we started class." The only thing he could possibly do for her is help her recover her memories, even if it's just of him. Katsuki didn't deserve her kindness or her care, not when he treats her so poorly. He saw how much the blond hurt her, yet she always seemed to forgive him and that didn't sit well with Todoroki.
"You think so?" Kagome asks hesitantly. "I wasn't sure I was actually making progress."
"I'd never lie to you, Kagome." That smile again. Kagome couldn't turn away from him, the way his eyes shared his smile leaving her breathless. Todoroki's aura dances with sincerity and kindness. Kagome didn't know how to respond to him, his gaze almost too intense for her to handle after just waking up.
"I-I'm glad, Shoto," Kagome finally answers once she's able to break his stare. She wanted to remember everyone and the thought of her hurting them because she doesn't was eating at her mind constantly. She wasn't sure what she could do or say around them, she didn't know how deep her bonds were with them, and all of it made her head spin in agony as she tried her hardest to remember them. "But I'm sure you're busy, so I'll leave you be," she blurts out as she bites the inside of her cheek. Kagome didn't want to annoy him or force him into spending time with her, yet she wanted to be around him a little longer and she couldn't figure out why.
"I was just heading to my room," he states, wanting to let her know he wasn't in any type of hurry. "The others are a bit too much to handle." Kagome laughs softly, calming her negative thoughts.
"I'm sure," she nods slightly thinking about how rowdy everyone could be. Then Katsuki appears in her thoughts, pulling her mind away from her current moment with Todoroki.
"They've been wondering when you would come down."
"Then I should go let them know I'm ok then, huh?" Todoroki nods slightly. "Well, in case I don't see you until training, have a wonderful night, Shoto." Despite hearing her say his first name multiple times at this point, Todoroki could help the chill running through him as it rolls off her tongue like silk.
"You as well, Kagome," he says softly, trying his best to keep the blush from appearing on his cheeks. Kagome walks past him, their arms brushing against each other gently.
Izuku is the first to notice her heading over, a wide smile dancing on his lips. "'Gome! You're awake!" He stands from his seat excitedly, walking over to her. "How are you feeling? Kacchan said you collapsed."
"O-oh, uh," Kagome scratches her cheek nervously. "I feel fine now. Just went beyond Plus Ultra today, you know?" She wanted to hug him, his adorable laugh making him almost too much for her to handle. Kagome blushes brightly at the thought, her head feeling a bit dizzy from the feeling of familiarity.
"Yeah-"
"Stop hogging her, Deku!" Mina calls jokingly. "We're worried about her, too!" On cue, Izuku's face turns completely red from being called out. The others chime in agreement with the pinkette for the joke, wanting to keep the atmosphere lively.
"I-I wasn't h-hogging her I-I sw-" Izuku is cut off by Kagome stumbling into him, her head spinning too fast for her to keep balance. "'Gome!" He holds her close to keep her standing, his blush brighter than ever. "A-are you ok?"
"Dizzy…" she says softly. "My head is spinning really fast…"
"Are you sure you should be up then?" Izuku asks, his voice full of worry. "I-I can take you back to your room." The others watch with concern for her, collectively wondering if it had to do with her memories. Kagome, however, could barely keep her eyes open while blurry figures danced behind her eyelids. Blobs of green and yellow with muffled laughter mixed with what seemed her own. "'Gome?"
"Y-yeah, sorry," she whispers tiredly as she clings to him for support. "That would be smart, wouldn't it?" Izuku then lifts her bridal style in one swoop. "You don't have to do this."
"It's what a hero would do," he beams as he heads to the elevators. He could hear Mina gushing in behind him about how cute they were, making his heart race faster than he had thought possible. Kagome falls asleep in his arms as he waits for the elevator, jumping when then the boy's elevator opens. Katsuki walks out with a rather grumpy expression, turning more sour at the sight of Kagome curled into Izuku's chest.
"What the hell did you do, nerd?" he whispers.
"N-nothing," Izuku stumbles. "She just came down and suddenly got really dizzy." Katsuki stays quiet for a moment, not wanting his already terrible mood to get worse and wake up Kagome.
"Is she alright?" he asks softly. Izuku could tell how much this was affecting him, his friend's aggression getting worse by each passing day.
"She just needs some sleep, I'm sure of it," Izuku says with a determined nod. "Are you alright, Kacchan?" Said male doesn't answer, the already deep frown getting worse at the question. Izuku smiles slightly, feeling a bit hopeful despite their current situation. Perhaps this could help all of them get closer.
"She's home, that's all that matters." Izuku jumps again as the girl's elevator opens before taking a step to go in. "I'll take her up."
"I-it's alright," Izuku stumbles, his nerves going on high alert. "I'm s-sure you're tired f-from today."
"Don't make me fucking repeat myself, Deku," Katsuki glares. He had seen Kagome and Todoroki's interaction from above and it hadn't sat well with him, but seeing her cuddling Izuku while fast asleep almost sent him over the edge. Izuku hesitantly hands Kagome to Katsuki's waiting arms and holds the elevator door open for him to board.
Izuku didn't want to hand her over, he wanted to be the hero for her tonight and tuck her in safely, but he also didn't want to make a scene with Katsuki and wake her up. So for her, he would sacrifice just about anything. Katsuki watches the doors close in front of him before letting out a sigh and looking at the sleeping girl in his arms. "What have I told you about pushing yourself too hard, dumbass?" he whispers softly. Kagome's lips gain a soft smile as she snuggles closer to his chest at the sound of his voice. Katsuki hadn't seen her smile that way since she had napped on his lap during the Sports Festival. "Can you just fucking come back to me?"
The elevator opens as he steps off quietly and heads to her room. Katsuki makes his way to her room in silence, thinking over everything that's happened between them since the beginning of school. He was pushing her away, jealous she was making other friends and knew amazing heroes. He felt completely left about of her plans that he took it out on her before she could even explain it to him. Katsuki had hurt her to the point she didn't talk to him period, yet he had thought before he was being left out. He saw how close Kagome continued to get with Izuku and Todoroki, even Hitoshi. And each passing day he kept fucking up any chances of having her at his side again.
Katsuki struggles with opening her dorm room but manages to get in and gently lay her on her bed. Pulling away, he is stopped by something holding his shirt; Kagome's closed fist clutching onto the fabric so he wouldn't leave her. He gently grabs her wrist to try and pull her away, only for her to tighten her hold and tug him closer while he struggles to pull away. "Let go, dammit," he whispers as his face flushes brightly, getting more frantic by the moment. Yet Kagome has always had a strong grip and he knew there was no point of fighting it. Sighing after a moment, Katsuki gently pulls off his shirt and is finally able to back away. Now he had to make it back to his room without anyone seeing him.
Kagome clutches his shirt to her chest, curling herself into a loose ball around it. Katsuki runs a hand through his hair, his heart clenching at the sight in front of him before he gently pulls her blankets from underneath her and tucks her in. "Hurry the fuck up and remember me already," he states softly as he pushes her hair from her face. "I'm getting impatient." Each day of her not knowing was like hell for him and many of their classmates, yet Katsuki was hoping the day she finally regained her memories would come sooner than later. He leans down and kisses her forehead softly before leaving and closing the door behind him.
Bright beams of sunlight peek through her closed window as her alarm goes off loudly. Kagome jumps from the sudden sound and quickly sits up to turn it off. As she does, black fabric falls to her lap with her blanket and catches her attention. Confusion passes over her, wondering where it had come from as she picks it up to observe the design on the shirt. A rather simple, yet angular skull. Her head begins throbbing harshly, making her cover her face with the shirt. The soft scent of slightly burnt caramel coming from the shirt starts calming her as she takes deep breaths. Kagome sits there unmoving for a few moments, letting the oddly familiar scent take over her senses before jumping from the sudden knocking on her door. A small squeak escapes her lips.
"W-who is it?"
"Who do you think, silly?" Ochaco calls. "I'm coming in." Kagome says nothing as the door opens, her mind going a mile a minute with questions. "Good morning!" Ochaco beams brightly as she closes the door behind her. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine," Kagome answers softly, her focus on the shirt now on her lap. "Did Zuzu bring me up here?"
"Kinda…" Ochaco scratches her cheek rather nervously. "He said he got you to the elevators but then Bakugo insisted on carrying you himself." Kagome slowly nods in response. So this was Katsuki's shirt then. Why had he left it? "-ome?" the brunette's voice barely breaks through her thoughts. "Kagome, you're spacing out." Ochaco's eyes light up with hope after a moment. "Do you remember anything?"
"S-sorry…" Kagome frowns as she shakes her head. "I almost did when I had fainted but now I can't recall anything from it."
"Well, then what's in your hands that has you so distracted?" Ochaco sits on the bed as she glances at the black shirt.
"Oh, uh…" Kagome blushes brightly. "I-I think it's Katsuki's shirt, but I-I'm not sure how I got it…" Ochaco's eyes widen slightly at the information, yet the both drop the topic as Kagome gets out of bed to change, putting the shirt on her desk. The two head out shortly after, meeting up with the rest of their awaiting class before separating to their areas. Kagome sighs, calling for Midoriko to come out for the day.
"You realize we have to make up time for yesterday, right?" the ancient priestess states as she crosses her arms.
"But I-"
"You're too far behind everyone right now, Kagome. You can't afford to slack off." Kagome shuts up as she bites her lip angrily and summons her bow. "How far can your arrow fly?"
"I-I'm not sure?" Kagome chuckles nervously, rubbing the back of her neck.
"Then that's the focus for today." Kagome sighs as Ectoplasm moves further away from them. "The further your range, the better."
"What about close combat? I was training with a sword for a while." Kagome taps her chin gently, thinking of everything she had learned from Sesshomaru.
"I'm more concerned about your Miko Ki, Kagome," Midoriko shakes her head. The child was right, yet she had lost part of her energy, not swordplay. Kagome gets into her stance then shoots an arrow at her target. The arrow hits with that same pillar of light as a new clone takes its place and moves further back. Kagome shoots again and the process repeats.
A few hours pass as Kagome pants harshly from the training. At this point she was able to clear the entirety of the gym with a single arrow. The streak of light flying over the others and catching their attention for a brief moment. "Now create as many as you can at once then fire them." Kagome nods tiredly as she forms three arrows and pulls them with her bow string before letting them soar. "Again."
Kagome drops to her knees, her hands on the ground in front of her as she tries to catch her breath. It was only day three of training and she wanted to sleep for 500 years. Her arms and legs felt like jello, making it difficult for her to get back to her feet. "That's enough for today," Aizawa calls out to the students. Kagome sighs in relief, letting herself fall to her side instead of standing.
"You did well, my dear," Midoriko says softly. "Tomorrow I expect you to figure out how to combine the techniques we've been going over into an ultimate move." Kagome nods slightly, too exhausted to speak. Her teachers were being extremely hard on her, wanting her to get back her strength in order to take the Provisional License exam with the other. "You should go take a bath and eat something." Midoriko disappears after that, leaving Kagome to get up by herself. Another sigh leaves her lips as she shifts to sit up and lean on her hands, wondering how long it would take for her body to allow her to stand.
"Oi, dumbass!" Katsuki calls from his higher platform before jumping down. "How many fucking times do I have to tell you not to push so hard?" Kagome says nothing as she looks to the side, her cheeks slightly pink as she remembers this morning. Katsuki squats next to her to see if she had hurt herself.
"I have to get caught up…" she whispers after a moment. "I'm so far behind everyone that I have to keep pushing, Katsuki…" Kagome wanted to cry like a child but knew it wouldn't do anything.
"Stop acting so fucking pathetic," he snaps slightly, not liking how depressed she sounds. "You're better than this, Kagome." Katsuki knew she could do it, knew she could overcome this obstacle like she did everything else. "So get your damn head out of your ass." Kagome starts tearing up, knowing he was right.
"I'm sorry…" she sniffles, catching him off guard. "I'm sorry for being so pathetic. For making everyone worry." The tears begin to stream down her face, exhaustion catching up to her quickly and making her head spin.
"What the hell did I just say?!" Katsuki snaps again, making Kagome jump slightly and look up at him. "Its fucking pointless to talk like that." Due to either exhaustion or instinct, Kagome lets out a soft whine as she throws herself onto Katsuki to hug him, knocking him back from his squatting position. "What the hell?! What are you doing, dumbass?!" Her arms lock behind his head as she buries her face against his chest. In a matter of seconds she was asleep, relaxing instantly from the contact. "Oi! Answer me-" he stops once hearing a soft snore from her. "Dammit." Taking his gauntlets off, he gently moves her legs to one side and holds her with one arm as he uses the other to help him sit up. "You couldn't have fucking waited?" While it would be easier to use a blast to help him up, he didn't want to wake her from how loud it would be so instead he struggles silently to get to his feet as Kagome latches onto him like a koala. Once standing, Katsuki leaves the gym while Kagome snuggles into his chest.
Upon entering the dorms, the rest of their class go deathly silent at the sight of Katsuki holding an unconscious Kagome. Without a word, Katsuki heads to the elevators to take her to her room. He didn't want others to ask questions or even see Kagome in this state, knowing it would worry them more.
AN: Admittedly I have had this chapter sitting for a few months and was really iffy about some parts. Let me know what you think and what I should possibly change.
