AN: hello again!! I'm sorry for the long wait for a short chapter but I wanted to get this out before I lost the motivation. After this exam arc is over everything is going to start speeding up with updates. Writers block has had me under lock and key for the most part but I'll try and start doing weekly updates. Thank you for supporting me when I needed it the most!!!
Unable to handle Katsuki's already sour mood, Kagome stays at the back of her group as she silently follows everyone into the building. Aside from the wave from Jikoku, the speaker was dragging on about how the exam was to work before the walls around them fell to reveal their training area. The sudden drop makes the students around her jump while they place their targets across their bodies. Students of the different schools quickly scatter, most likely to find a place to hide before attacking. Kagome felt uneasy about it, knowing Aizawa purposely didn't tell them something about this exam. Not showing her concerns externally, she sticks with her class as a few run to their own area.
As the countdown begins, the smaller group of U.A. students run to their own safety. "I just don't think they're better off on their own…" Kagome didn't pay attention to who was talking, focusing on holding the back of the group while Izuku led them.
"Our moves are already well-known." Kagome nearly trips at the fact. The Sport's Festival had showcased them to everyone else, leaving them at a complete disadvantage. Silently cursing her teacher, Kagome takes a deep breath to prepare as the exam starts. Once hidden opponents make themselves known to the class, finding power in numbers against quirks they already knew about. Balls fly through the air quicker than Kagome could process as her classmates react and hit them away easily.
"Kagome! Over here!" Said girl barely hears someone call out to her as she makes her way through the downpour. The ground under her starts to shake, nearly throwing her off balance. "Hurry up!" the voice yells again just as the ground breaks up under her feet and sends her flying, dropping her ammo in the process. A surprised scream escapes her lips, eyes wide at the distant earth before shaking her head and correcting her course much like she had seen Inuyasha do when beaten back. Using the broken earth, Kagome jumps towards her destination as Jikoku comes into view.
Closing in on the pair was a group of students, ready to ambush at any moment thinking they have the upper hand. Kagome skids to a stop as she lands on solid ground and turns to her opponents with absolute focus. "Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help me?" Kagome hisses behind her.
"Well, I don't know," the wolf chuckles. "Kinda likin' the view from here." He winks at her as she scoffs while forming her bow and aiming above herself.
"Don't touch an arrow then." Kagome shoots her arrow, watching it soar for a moment before slowly breaking apart into smaller arrows and darting down towards the opposing students. Unsure if they were actually dangerous or not; and not wanting to take a chance; the ambush falls back as the pair try making an escape.
"Nice distraction, 'Gome," Jikoku continues his flirtatious banter. "That was great entertainment." Kagome rolls her eyes as they successfully get away. "Idiots don't know your arrows won't hurt them."
"They think it's my entire quirk, not that I'm a Miko," she sighs slightly as she relaxes her pace. "But I guess the signs were there, huh?" Jikoku chuckles in response, letting the conversation go to a comfortable, yet alert, silence as everything seemed to still around them. Finding cover, the pair come to a stop to hopefully form a plan. "I'm not looking forward to fighting the others," she sighs softly.
"Really?" He raises a brow. "It should be reversed." He smirks as he leans towards her, sniffing slightly as a soft blush appears on her cheeks. "Ahh, but you don't want to steal the show, is that it? You're anxious about something that's for sure." He chuckles softly and winks at her as he backs away.
"Perhaps. But that's none of your business." Kagome glares as she crosses her arms. "Survive right? That's all we can do."
"Come on 'Gome," Jikoku nearly groaned. "Let loose a bit. I know you're itching for a good fight." The blush darkens on her, embarrassment washing over her.
"Th-that doesn't matter, I don't want any more attention than I already have. Things are so different from the Sports Festival, Jikoku." Kagome knew she was stronger. Much stronger than she was. That's why she has to be careful about nearly everything, not knowing what was her and what was the jewel.
"Then let's go." Kagome blinks a few times at him. "Spar with me."
"You're crazy!" she shakes her head as the blush finally fades. "Someone would take advantage of that-"
"You have barriers." That smirk never leaves his face. "Don't back out of this 'Gome, you know you need a good fight. Stop ignoring it."
"Jiko-" Is all Kagome can get out as he attacks her with his ammo, an instant barrier knocking them away. "What the hell?!"
"You leave me no choice but to make you fight back." Jikoku wasn't going to take no for an answer. He wanted to see her in action, to see that warrior his family talked to fondly of.
"Not now! Jikoku please, I really don-" Again he cuts her off with attacking, forcing her to run from him and out of their hiding spot. 'First the guy flirts with me, now he's attacking me?!' Kagome screams mentally. She'd need to somehow mask her scent from him, a barrier wasn't going to cut it. Shaking her head slightly, Kagome pulls herself from her thoughts just as someone grabs onto her, dragging her out of the way. "Hey-mm!?" A hand covers her mouth before her senses catch up to the situation, a soft giggle chiming in her ears and a sharp sting on her arm. Her second skin being too late to react.
"Finally found you~" It was Toga. A cold sweat runs down her back, not knowing why she was looking for her. "Wow, up close you're so much better. So cute! Oh! Barrier please! I need to tell you something but that idiot is following you." Doing as she says, Kagome puts a small barrier around them, still unsure what the villains intentions were. Toga releases her hand from Kagome's mouth as the stinging stops. "You're safe. No matter where you go Kagome. Oh! Can I call you 'Gome?"
"Why, what?" Kagome was trying to process what the girl was saying, unable to properly react.
"You're important to our plan, 'Gome. That's what Shiggy says. One of us will always have eyes on you. You'll never be alone." She quickly pulls out her phone and takes a picture of Kagome's shocked expression.
"Important? To the league? I'm surprised you guys haven't killed me yet," Kagome almost relaxes.
"Dabi wouldn't let that happen~" Kagome's heart drops to her stomach. Dabi. Of course he would have say in what happens. Rage and terror wash over her with a sickening wave. Yet it was gone as soon as it appeared, being replaced with small butterfly flutters in her stomach.
Another click of Toga's phone pulls Kagome from her thoughts. "Looks like that wolf demon is back, 'Gome. It was fun talking with you~" she winks before leaving as Kagome releases the barrier. Emotions flood her mind, one right after the next, before stopping in disgust. She felt dirty, guilty, and undeserving of being a hero.
Why was she ok with Dabi protecting her?
