Katsuki's cheeks go from rosy to pale in a matter of moments. While he had been waiting as patiently as he possibly could, he couldn't help but fear the worse. Was she a demon? Was she a villain? There is something major she has been hiding from him and he didn't know what to expect at this point. Katsuki keeps his gaze steady on her, preparing for anything she could say.
Kagome lets out a shaky sigh as she messes with the cut end of her shirt. "I just really hope you believe me…" If she was able to tell Izuku, she could tell Katsuki. Yet at the same time, this is Katsuki she has to tell.
"Believe you? What the hell are you talking about?" Katsuki tries not to snap at her. After seeing her with Jikoku; someone she had never met until the exam; acting close to each other and knowing something he clearly was in the dark about. Or with Izuku just now in the common area. What did they know that he didn't? "You mean what you're hiding from everyone? Or that you were avoiding me?" He didn't want to say these things to her but he couldn't stop the flow of words. "We go from best friends to nearly fucking strangers because of all these new fucking guys that know you out of nowhere! You talk to Deku, got close to fucking icy-hot, and were even training with that gloomy-purple-fuck!"
Kagome couldn't speak. Knowing she deserved to be yelled at, to be rejected after all she's put him through. She knew she went overboard with pushing him away after their accident, telling him that she hated him, or keeping him in the dark for so long. Dabi's eyes flash in her mind for a moment, making her heart sink into her stomach. How many secrets would she be keeping? "Can we talk in my room? I-I'm sure Zuzu won't mind us taking a quick break." Kagome nearly whispers, unable to find her voice in front of Katsuki. Every fiber of her being was telling her to hug him, to feel close to him like when they were kids. "I promise I'll explain." There is nothing but silence from Katsuki as he reaches out and grabs her wrist, pulling her behind him as he heads towards the elevator. Kagome's eyes start stringing as tears build, relief flooding through her. The pain of hiding from him was going to fade and she couldn't be happier about it, but she felt guilty all the same. Another flash of blue eyes makes her nauseous but she stays quiet as they enter the elevator.
Katsuki doesn't let go of her wrist, not willing to chance anything getting in the way or between them. "I know exactly what it feels like to live without knowing you. I never want that life again." He remembers her words clear as day, yet since then she has been so distant and quiet. Why could she tell Izuku but not him? He heads to his room instead of hers, going on autopilot when taking the elevator. Opening his door, he pulls her inside and locks the door behind them. "So what? What the hell is so insane you couldn't tell me sooner?" He lets go of her wrist and sits on his bed in a huff.
"Do you want the long story or the summary?" Kagome asks as she stays standing.
"I've been waiting long enough," Katsuki sighs out as he stretches, resting his hands behind his head as he lays back on his bed. If he was going to be listening to a story, he might as well get comfortable. "I want the fucking details." Kagome can't help the small laugh bubbling in her throat. This is the Katsuki that only came out for her. Relaxed, honest, unapologetically emotional, and still completely Katsuki. "Stop being awkward and sit the fuck down." Yep, still Katsuki. Taking a seat next to him, Kagome takes a deep breath before starting to explain her adventures.
"Do you remember talking about how a time-traveling quirk would be really cool but also really boring?"
"Kagome, who the fuck starts a story like that?" he raises an eyebrow.
"Just answer the question!" she smacks his leg playfully.
"Hey!" he shouts from shock. "Fucking Christ, yes, I remember. Why?"
"What if I told you I was in a war 500 years ago?" Katsuki sits up and leans on his hands, staring at her blankly. "And that's kinda how I know Inuyasha and the other demons…"
"Did you hit your head when we were kidnapped?" He shifts his weight to check her temperature with the back of his hand.
"Katsuki I'm being serious!" she whines with an embarrassed blush on her cheeks, swatting his hand away from her forehead. "The well on my family's shrine was how I was able to go back and forth until I was eighteen."
"I'm serious, you sound like a psycho." He was confused and didn't want to believe her, but everything was telling him to trust her. To listen and take her seriously. "And time travel? Through that old ass well?"
"Yes. It was made from the same wood of the giant tree at the shrine." Kagome takes another deep breath as she begins telling him about Inuyasha and Kikyo, their connection to the tree, and how she ended up in the past with the Shikon.
"He tried to kill you?!" Katsuki was sitting with his legs crossed, giving his full attention to her once she had brought up being attacked for the third time.
"Mistress Centipede literally took a bite out of my side and you worry about Inuyasha trying to attack me?" Kagome laughs. "That's what this scar is," she points at her side to bring his attention to it, still laughing at his reaction. Continuing on with her adventures, she introduces Shippo and what happened with his father and the Thunder Brothers. Then everyone that follows, seeming to relive each memory as she shares them with Katsuki.
Time passes quickly as Kagome tells her tale for the second time, a weight lifting from her shoulders, the pieces fall back into place. "So you were living two lives?" Kagome nods. "And you're actually like eighteen?" That would explain the sudden jump in maturity from her since starting at U.A., even how she carried herself mirrors that of a seasoned Hero.
"I'm trying to get to that part," she huffs in response. "Now shush and don't interrupt again," Kagome playfully scolds him as she laughs before continuing. Katsuki did say he wanted the details, so she told him of the pain, the love, the death, everything she had experienced in those three years. And finally to completing the Jewel and making her wish. "This part gets a bit rocky so bare with me," she warns as she prepares herself to reveal her true secret as she looks at his eyes for any hint of emotion. Throughout her explanation, he's been rather calm, as if unsure how to respond or comment about the situations Kagome found herself in time and time again. Yet his eyes dance with a swirl of emotion, mirroring his aura despite how unfazed he seems.
To Katsuki, this was nonsense but he understood exactly what she was saying. Kagome has always been different. Somehow she's always put others before herself when she deserves to have the world. That heartache she went through because of Inuyasha, used as bait after being kidnapped, and everyone seemed to have taken advantage of her kindness. Katsuki's heart hurt for her, knowing how hard it is seeing the person you care for most choose someone over you.
Yet he didn't feel worthy to call her a friend, or try and be by her side after what he put her through. Then hearing about her adventures with the Demons and that she had told Izuku before she even thought of telling him, made his head hurt and his stomach twist in knots. "Kagome?" he whispers just as Kagome goes to speak. He couldn't help the jealousy he felt towards Inuyasha, hating him from how he treated her when all she did was love him unconditionally. Katsuki's mouth goes dry thinking of when she said how many times she had kissed him. The gentle blush on her cheeks and the dim stars in her eyes told him what he needed to know. "Do you still love him?"
Kagome smiles softly as she thinks of her relationship with Inuyasha. "In a way, I will always love him, but not like how I used to." Katsuki lets go of the breath he didn't realize he was holding in, a wave of relief rushes over him. "But time is a mysterious thing. What you know one day could be different the next." Kagome shakes her head and lets out a sigh. "But then we completed the Jewel and I ran away from the battle with it, hoping my wish would make it disappear." She goes quiet, trying to word the final part of her adventures.
"It had to be a selfless wish, right?" he asks, thinking of the Jewel's story and how it was made. "Why didn't you stay behind and make sure Naraku was dead?"
"It was a now or never moment," Kagome pouts slightly. "Besides, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru were able to defeat him."
"And your wish?" He was getting impatient but didn't want to show it, the anticipation getting on his nerves.
"For a world where no one was without power. Where there is always a hero nearby. Where everyone can dream. I wished for-"
"You created heroes," he cuts her off. "You said that Tokyo used to be full of people without quirks and demons were even thought to be ancient fairy tales! A world without heroes, without-"
"You?" Kagome interrupts this time, causing Katsuki's breath to hitch in his throat. "I woke up from my adventures on the first day of U.A. with new memories of you and Zuzu." She gently places her hand on top of his, feeling her heart in her throat. "I was taken to the world I had created and given the chance to relive the years I lost finding the Jewel." Katsuki couldn't form a complete thought, starstruck and yet in disbelief. Someone he's known his entire life has had a lifetime of adventures that she should be praised and thanked for. Taking a deep breath, Katsuki closes his eyes.
"So you're holding yourself back?" The talk he had with Jikoku echoed in his mind. "Because you don't seem to know a damn thing about her." Watching her fight those goons during the exam only proved the Demon's point. "After all of that bullshit? You're just going to fucking sit on the sides and not give it your all?!" It was Kagome's turn to be speechless. Of all the things to go off about, Katsuki was snapping about how she's not putting her all. "And that stupid fucking gem or whatever! Where the hell is that? Is it gone?"
"Well, uhh," she starts nervously and points to the middle of her chest. "It's technically right here?" Drifting his eyes down, Katsuki slightly blushes and covers his mouth with his hand. Darting his gaze away so as to not get scowled for staring too long. "During the summer training camp I kind of, um, merged with it?" Her answers come out more like unsure questions, finding it hard to believe herself. Yet Katsuki didn't seem fazed by the information in the least, having felt something shift with her since she had gotten her memories back.
"During the training camp…" he mutters, thinking back to when they had been captured. Truthfully he couldn't get that night out of his head, reliving the moment Kagome had yelled for them not to take him. Her specific words repeating on an endless loop and playing with his heart. Don't take my Katsuki.
