"You go from not talking to me…" Katsuki huffs out as he carefully thinks of his words. "From pretty much ignoring my existence to throwing yourself headfirst after me! It doesn't make any fucking sense!" The longer he thought about it the more frustrated and confused he got. "You can't just fucking go from saying you hate me to- to- Dammit! Kagome, make it make sense!" His hands grip his hair, hoping to distract himself with the sting on his scalp. His world felt like it was being flipped upside down and he couldn't do anything but watch and wait for it to be done.
Kagome hides her eyes with her bangs, unsure of how to even respond. She knew she was hurting him, that he was thinking about everything that's happened since they started the hero course. She couldn't help but feel guilty, seeing how much damage she had done to just Katsuki all while she was trying to protect everyone.
"I never meant to hurt you, 'Gome…" he says weakly, ashamed of himself for letting his jealousy and anger control him back then. "I'm sorry, I'm so fucking sorry," He didn't know what he was to her, how close he could be to her, he wanted everything to go back to how it was before the Sports Festival, before U.A., if only he could go back and do it differently. Eyes stinging with fresh tears, Katsuki aggressively rubs them away with his hands as a frustrated grunt sounds in his chest.
Kagome throws her arms around him, finding that words wouldn't do her any good as she pulls him against her, showing her acceptance of his apology. Unspoken words float around them as Katsuki instantly clings to her, much like he had done when they were younger. It was so natural for them to embrace each other even after so long. Kagome lets her own tears fall as time seems to slow.
Silence covers the room, save for the soft sniffles and cries as the pair desperately hold on to each other. Unable to form words as their world shook at its core. Hushed apologies and whispers of forgiveness dance on their tongues as regret courses through them. Katsuki buries his face against her neck, feeling her warmth and taking in her scent as he starts to calm down. As it has always been, he quickly relaxes in Kagome's arms. He always felt at home with her no matter what was happening around them.
Kagome runs her fingers through his hair as she listens to his breathing even out. Yet her flesh felt as if it were burning against the heat of his. She didn't deserve this comfort, not when she is helping the enemy.
They could hear their moms laughing and talking animately from downstairs. Small Kagome, Katsuki, and Izuku had been playing upstairs in Kagome's room until curiosity got the better of them. "What do you think they're talking about?" Izuku whispers out, only to have Katsuki shush him harshly as he leads them to the top of the stairs. Kagome shrugs to Izuku, wanting to know as much as he did.
"That poor girl is going to have her hands full in a few years!" Mitsuki smirks over to Mrs. Higurashi, wiggling her eyebrows teasingly. "And that's just from our boys!"
"Izuku shouldn't be too bad," Inko laughs. "But Katsuki?"
"Let's not get into that one," Mrs. Higurashi laughs.
"Right? That gremlin is over protective of her as it is." Mitsuki takes a sip of her drink as they all watch the children play. Small Kagome was laughing along side Izuku as they ran away from an angry Katsuki. "Exhibit A."
A few years into primary schooling, Katsuki had made his own group of friends outside of Izuku and Kagome. While Kagome would still hang out with Izuku more than Katsuki, she found her own friends among some of the girls in their grade.
"Kagome, your puppy is coming," Eri giggles with Ayumi and Yuka while Katsuki marches over with his own trio. Kagome turns to see who they were talking about.
"Kacchan!" she beams. "I thought you were playing with them for free time."
"Nah, we need another player," he smirks while eyeing the group of girls behind Kagome. "We're playing heroes and we need someone to play the victim."
"No way! She promised to play with us today!" Yuki glares.
"So? She was my friend first! The only reason she promised is 'cause I said I was busy!"
"And didn't she say only if Izuku plays?" Ayumi adds softly.
"Like that loser would keep up! We already have a villain, anyway," Katsuki shoots back.
"Don't call Zuzu a loser!" Kagome finally snaps, shocking Katsuki enough to take a step back. "He hasn't done anything but be nice to you!"
"Uh oh, Katsuki's girl is scarier than he is," whispers one of the males.
"Whatever, we didn't want to play heroes anyways," Katsuki grumbles instead of pushing back like he would with anyone else, walking away with his group right behind him.
Middle school is where things started to change for the trio, adding in a new face to the mix of emotions. Katsuki was acting more aggressive towards Izuku every chance he got while Kagome tried stopping him. Yet she wasn't always there to protect Izuku when Katsuki got too much. Hojo was trying to take up her time during breaks and in between classes, usually getting into arguements with Katsuki along the way. Despite being quirkless, he still goes toe to toe for Kagome's sake.
"Higurashi!" calls an excited Hojo as he jogs over to her. "I thought that was you. But my grandfather said that these herbs could really help with any exhaustion during training so you can go for longer!" Kagome blushes at the gift basket. "He said to make them into tea at least twenty minutes before you start."
"Oh thats so sweet-"
"What the hell do you think you're doing, extra?!" Katsuki shouts from the other side of the courtyard. "Get away from her before I fucking hurt you!"
"And you say you're going to be a hero," Hojo's retorts, making a complete 180 from his previous attitude. "If I was in danger and you were the one coming to save me, I'd rather die."
"What the hell do you know, quirkless nobody!"
"Enough to know Kag-"
"Thank you!" Kagome comes between them, her trio holding off Katsuki's group. "Hojo, thank you for the thoughtful gift," she smiles softly, making the ordinary boy blush with his own smile.
"Don't get any fucking ideas," Katsuki glares at him, noticing the nervousness on Hojo.
"O-oh its no big deal," he says, ignoring Katsuki's warning. "I can ask where he found these and take you there if you'd like." Katsuki was floored as the audacity of the male speaking to Kagome.
"She's busy!" Katsuki snaps, grabbing Kagomes hand and pulling her away from Hojo.
A moonlit night right after graduating from Middle school finds Kagome sitting alone at the park overlooking the pond. Unable to sleep from overthinking and an unfamilar feeling of duty and loss. A sigh passes her lips as she looks up at the moon. She couldn't tell if this feeling of loss was from missing her father during an important part of her life or if her heart knew something her mind forgot. Bringing her knees to her chest, Kagome rests her head against them as she listens to the world around her. Seeming to be stuck in time but forever moving and changing.
Losing track of time, Kagome begins drifting to sleep from finding comfort from being outside. Soft footsteps shock her from dozing off as she snaps her head up and looks behind her. The moonlight was dim but she didn't need light to know who it was.
"Katsuki?" she calls out as she calms down. "What are you doing out here?"
"I should be asking you that," he glares gently, more worried about her than anything. "Sota messaged me saying you left the house."
"I couldn't sleep," she sighs and turns back towards the pond. "My mind won't stop racing." Katsuki sits next to her on the grass, listening to whatever she had to say. "Do you ever feel like youre missing something? Like a memory or a lifetime? I feel like I've seen these stars younger and brighter." Katsuki watches her silently, feeling a divide forming between them.
To him, she looked otherworldly in the moonlight. Her eyes showing the longing she felt for what she couldn't remember. This was the first time he felt disconnected from her and Katsuki couldn't stand it.
"Do you feel like you are should be doing something important?" This time she looks at him for an answer, uncertainty laced in her words.
"Important? We're going to be the worlds greatest heroes! What's more important than that?" Katsuki grins at her, attempting to lighten her worries.
"I mean bigger than heroes and villains," she shakes her head. "Like saving the entire world, or stopping a huge war, or making a mark greater than All Might!" She gazes back out to the pond, feeling her heart race as a spark ignites in her eyes. Her soul knowing what she had forgotten. Some how, she seemed older and stronger. As if she had seen the battles of war and reigned victorious time and time again. This wasn't the same Kagome he grew up with, not the scared and fragile girl he had thought her to be. No. The girl in front of him was a seasoned warrior.
Getting into U.A. was a feat in itself if one was not selected for recommendation. The examinee with the highest score was on a different level. Katsuki thought for sure he would have gotten the top spot as he always did, yet when he had seen Kagome's name at the top he couldn't have been more proud despite the fact it was shocking. Whatever happened after that night at the park, it changed her. Seeming more unreachable to him than before.
Kagome being able to form a friendship with everyone in class while he scared everyone away. She was even able to get close to Shoto. Katsuki felt left behind and angry. Izuku was stronger and Kagome felt further from him. Kagome struggles with the balance while handling Katsuki's more chaotic outbursts.
"I know you care for Bakugo, but why do you let him talk to you like that?" Tsuyu had asked.
"He has a unique way of saying he cares," Kagome shrugd as she played with her lunch.
"You know, you are quite fond of those two," Momo has suggested.
"Yeah they have been my best friends since we were kids," Kagome smiled while copying down Momo's notes. "Of course I'm fond of them."
"But what about how you are with Todoroki?" Momo wiggled her eyebrows slightly.
"I can be fond of a friendship!" Kagome became flustered as Momo laughed.
"Hey! On the topic of amazing power couples!" Tohru had cut into the conversation of hero ships. "Kagome! You and Bakugo would be the power couple!"
"Wh-what?!" Kagome blushed as she waved her hands in front of herself. "You must be joking! Me and Katsuki?! I doubt he has interest in anything other than being a hero!"
"Sooooo~" Jirou teased from behind Kagome after an interaction with Hitoshi. "You and Shinso, huh?"
"Hm? What about us?" Kagome turned to her unfazed by her sudden appearance.
"You're kidding," the short haired girl crossed her arms. "You're like one of the only people he will talk to AND you get him to smile! You would make such a cute couple!"
"C-couple?" Kagome blushed, shocked by her friends opinion.
"Come on, Kagome!" Ochaco laughs. "You have so many guys following after you and you are so clueless."
"Yeah right! Like anyone of us has time for that kind of thing!" Kagome laughs along with her.
"Kagome~" Mina called out after class had gotten out.
"Mina I swear if you are going to ask questions about my love life again," Kagome sighed playfully.
"Oh you know me so well!" Mina laughed. "I haven't got a single answer out of you but Im determined!" Kagome just shook her head as she laughed along with her friend.
"Hey sis?" Sota had come up to her just before dinner. "When are you going to pick one of them?"
"SOTA!" Kagome shrieked from embarrassment. "Why would you ask that?"
"Well, honey. He has a point," Mrs. Higurashi chimed from the kitchen. "I'm sure they are waiting for you to pick, too."
"MOM!" Kagome groaned, making her hand to her face. "Not you too."
Katsuki didn't want to speak to anyone, finding isolation the best punishment for hurting Kagome like he did. If only he didn't let his jealousy and anger control him, if he could have just calmed down and talked to her, should would still being talking to him. But he couldn't hide how hurt he was. He couldn't understand how she knew those Pro's and why one of them was claiming her to be his. Katsuki couldn't understand anything that came to Kagome since they started at U.A..
Needing air and to get away from his mother, Katsuki decided to walk around for the day. Yet his wish for solitude wouldn't be granted as three familiar heads appear down the street. Eijiro, Denki, and Sero were walking his way and he had nowhere to hide. "Ay is that Bakugo?" Denki shouted with a smile.
"It is!" Eijiro beams as they rush over to the blonde. "Hey bro, whats up?"
"Don't worry about it," Katsuki grunted as he shoved his hands into his pockets. The trio looked between each other before pulling Katsuki back towards his house. "Oi! The hell are you idiots doing?!"
"Getting you to talk," Eijiro smiled at him confidently. Once inside Katsuki's room, Denki and Sero block the door so Katsuki wouldn't escape. "Now whats going on? Does it have to do with Kagome?" Katsuki flinched at her name, not meeting Eijiro's gaze. "You didn't."
"Bro what did you do?" Denki questioned, worry etched on his face for his friend.
"I got angry." Katsuki didn't want to talk about this, not when it was still so fresh. "I was stupid and got angry like I always fucking do." Eijiro glanced at Sero and Denki as they nod to him and left the room.
"Talk to me."
"I-" Katsuki grips his hair in his hands. "I fucked up. I go so fucking jealous of those Pros and how excited Kagome got to see them. But she's changed. She is so fucking different now its like I don't even know her anymore! I've been next to her our entire lives and I have no fucking clue how she would have met Demons! Not just regular Pros, the fucking Demons!"
"I feel for you bro. That seems really confusing."
"Confusing is an understatement…"
"Everyone has things they hide, sometimes its bigger than others."
"Knowing the Demon Heroes is pretty damn big."
"Right, SilverFang called her his 'woman'..." Eijiro sighed a bit, finding it difficult to help with this situation.
"Or the way she looked at that Inuyasha fuckhead…"
"You really like her, don't you?"
Katsuki could feel his heart hammering in his chest, refusing to let her go now that he has her. The fear from before still bubbled on his skin, knowing at any time he could lose her. Kagome plays with his hair to focus on anything that wasn't her own emotions. She realized how much Katsuki means to her and what she would do just to make him safe, but she couldn't admit those feelings to herself.
Katsuki knew. He knew since they were young but never wanted to entertain the thought of it. Now when their dreams were on the line and he won't be the one to take hers. Katsuki knew he was in love with the girl in his arms.
