Emotions and silence hang thick in the air, neither daring to say a thing as they begin to pull away from each other. Katsuki looks up to meet her gaze, her eye glossy from unshed tears yet there is a smile on her lips. The way she looks at him when he would vent about his problems, with unyielding kindness and understanding. Kagome gently wipes away his tears as his breath hitches quietly. He closes his eyes for a moment, enjoying her caring touch. Kagome's hands then cup his face. Katsuki opens his eyes slowly, his gaze drifting to her lips and back to hers. His nerves start dancing while his mind races of how her lips would feel against his, if they would be soft like they looked or if they were rough from constant training.
A knock pulls them from their thoughts as Kagome lets out a surprised yelp and quickly gets off Katsuki's bed. "Who the hell is it?" Katsuki shouts, enraged someone would interrupt as he gets up and opens the door. Kirishima stands there with a broad, knowing smile. "What the fuck do you want?"
"Oh, well Midoriya said you would know where Kagome is," Kirishima leans and waves at her, having seen the top of her head from behind Katsuki. "Glad he was right."
"Is something going on?" Kagome then walks over to the door, a soft blush on her own cheeks.
"Yeah! Inuyasha and his brother are here to see you about something." Kirishima could see the immediate tension in Katsuki's body, his sour mood getting worse at the sudden pain in his chest.
"Why would they be here at this time?" Kagome wonders out loud, sounding almost excited. Class was out for the day at this point, the pair had lost track of time as they reminisced about the past.
"Not sure but it seems important," the red head shrugs and slips his hands into his pockets. Kagome nods then quickly takes off down the hall and to the elevator. Kirishima looks over to Katsuki with a slight frown. "Is that what you were talking about?" The blonde doesnt respond as he closes his door and makes his way downstairs. They get out of the elevator in time to see Kagome throwing herself at Inuyasha with a wide smile, as if what they did in Katsuki's room never actually happened. The half-demon easily catches her with a small spin.
"Hi," she beams, not caring if her friends and classmates were watching. Inuyasha gently puts her down. "So what are you guys doing here?" Sesshomaru speaks as Inuyasha goes to explain.
"We need your expertise on a specific situation." Meaning 'I'm not saying shit until we get into the car.' Kagome just nods, now noticing Shoto standing next to Sesshomaru. Behind her, she could hear Aizawa yelling at the others to stop being nosey and to go relax. "Let's get going before it gets too late." With this, the demon makes his way out the door, expecting the other three to follow.
"Finally!" Inuyasha complains loudly.
Katsuki couldn't understand what was happening. Why was icy-hot going with? Had she told him already? Rage consumes Katsuki as he storms back up to his room without another word.
Izuku was just as confused and his heart clenches at the thought of them being closer than he was with her. He already knew about her past and she promised to tell him everything yet here she is running off without telling him what was going on. Worry courses through his body as he races through his memories and facts of the demon heroes.
In the car and on the way, Kagome begins her questioning. "Alright, are you going to tell me what the hell is going on or are you going to make me wait until we get there?" Kagome crosses her arms in irritation. "What's the situation you need me for? Why couldn't we talk about this at the dorms? And how the hell do you know Shoto?" To anyone that didn't know her, they would say she was angry, but she was worried about what they were trying to drag Shoto into. She didn't want him put in harm's way just because of these two.
"One question at a time, Kagome," Sesshomaru glances at her through the rearview mirror.
"My father already called me about it. We are going to go and speak with him about you. They are going to know me from constantly working with my father." The demons glance at each other for a moment, slightly surprised that Shoto didn't hesitate to answer her. Usually, in these situations, they have to have Kagome ask again from how fast she tends to speak. Yet he was able to answer flawlessly. "But that doesn't explain how you know them, Kagome."
"Her father was an old friend of mine," Sesshomaru covers up quickly, yet the male student wasn't buying it. He made a mental note to speak to Kagome about it the next time they were alone.
Getting to the Todoroki residence, they are greeted by Fuyumi, the only daughter of Endeavor. "Hello, we've been waiting for you," she smiles widely. "And you must be Kagome! Father has spoken highly of you, as well as Shoto," she winks at her little brother. "I'm Fuyumi."
"Oh, it's nice to meet you," Kagome blushes softly. An annoyed grunt from Inuyasha stops all formalities as Fuyumi takes it as a sign to lead them toward Endeavor's home office. The walk there was quiet, Fuyumi always feeling unsure of what to say to the demons because of their relationship with her father. With a knock, the older Todoroki sibling then opens the door to the office to allow them inside. Shoto stands at the side of Endeavor's desk while Sesshomaru has Kagome take the open seat in front.
"I see no need for greetings," Sesshomaru starts with a serious tone. "Recent events have shown that Kagome is being targeted by the League." Kagome herself downcasts her eyes, not daring to look at the #1 Hero. "While we thank you greatly for finding her after they had kidnapped her, we would like your help in protecting her."
"What?" Kagome gasps as she snaps her head up to look at the demon. "I don't need protection!" Yet his glare left no room for her to continue her argument. Anger begins to boil in her blood.
"I can't be watching her and be top Hero, Lord Sesshomaru. But I'll have my son Shoto fill the spot of guardian-"
"She doesn't need a babysitter," the said male speaks up, having seen Kagome fight firsthand.
"This isn't up for negotiation, Shoto," Endeavor says sternly.
"Like hell, it's not!" Kagome stands as she slams her hands on the desk. "I'm not some random defenseless civilian! Sesshomaru you should know I don't nee-"
"I know you enough to know that you, in fact, need eyes on you at all times. You're reckless, naive, dive headfirst into problems, and think you can save anyone." Kagome could only stare at him, her face going completely red before she storms out of the office. Shoto glares at Sesshomaru as he follows after her.
"Damn you really pissed her off," Inuyasha almost snorts. "Good luck trying to get her to do anything now." He puts his hands behind his head and leans against the wall, Sesshomaru takes the empty seat.
"She'll come around," the older demon states simply. "Now for the real reason."
Shoto grabs Kagome's hand in an attempt to slow her down, the sudden touch makes her jump and turn to look at him. "What? Are you actually going to do what they say?" He could see the hurt in her eyes, the tears building up and threatening to fall. Shoto just shook his head before leading her through the house (avoiding Fuyumi), and into his room. He wasn't sure what came over him but that look she had made his body move on its own. He wanted her away from them, away from the world. Shoto knew she didn't need protection yet something in him wanted to anyways. He closes the door behind them after they enter his room.
Kagome is the first to let go, her mind still racing from what Sesshomaru had said to her. Those blunt insults at her character had really rattled her. She had thought she was making them proud of her, that she was getting strong to where they didn't have to worry about it. They knew she wasn't actually a child, that she was smarter and more mature than they credited her for. Kagome begins pacing back and forth in Shoto's room as he sits on his bed, unsure of what to say. "Who the hell do they think I am? I can take care of my damn self and have saved their asses more times than I should've! Sesshomaru has tried to kill me for fucks sake!" That caught Shoto's attention, feeling an unknown anger hit him.
"He tried to kill you? What are you talking about?" Kagome stops in her tracts at his questions, knowing she let too much slip already.
"It's a really long story," she mumbles, suddenly feeling enclosed and trapped in his room.
"We have time," he states quickly. Shoto didn't like feeling lost, and when it came to her, he didn't know where to start. She made him confused by the emotions she would stir up in his chest. Confused by how he hates seeing her upset. Yet when she had forgotten everyone, the pain he felt was intense. The fear of her never remembering him ate at him, but he didn't do anything. He didn't feel like he had the right when Katsuki and Izuku were much closer to her. He was just someone she befriended before they started at U.A. while they have known her since they were kids. Shoto wanted to know her just as well as they do, he realized. But in order to know someone that intimately, you need to let them in just as much. "Wait," he finds himself saying. "It would only be fair to share a secret for a secret, right?" his voice is low and weak, almost scared to confess his pain to her. But what could be worse than a demon actively trying to kill you?
"What do you mean, Shoto?" Kagome questions softly, seeing the pain and fear dancing in his aura.
"How I got my scar," he says bluntly. "And my family." Now shame and anger were joining the dance around him yet his face was void of emotion. Kagome sits to face him on his bed, her anger washing away almost immediately.
"If you don't-"
"No," he cuts her off as he turns to face her fully. "I need to tell you, Kagome." His heart starts racing as he tries to find the words. Kagome could only wait patiently, her own pulse jumping at his statement. "I'm exactly half of my mother and father," he starts simply. "My father's goal was to make a child that would surpass All Might, and to do it, he needed my mother's quirk."
"A quirk marriage?" Shoto nods slightly before continuing on.
"My oldest brother, Touya, was the first to be trained. Father would always push him past his limits, however." He lets out a soft sigh. "Touya's flame quirk was unstable and he couldn't handle the heat on his body. After years of training and telling him that he was going to be stronger than All Might, my father finally realized it was too much for him and said he should live a normal life as a civilian. Touya didn't want that and couldn't take no for an answer. He wanted to train but one day it went too far and his flames consumed him. It was so bright and blue. Hotter than father's hellfire."
Kagome almost felt sick, everything in her screaming at the similarities between Touya and Dabi. Her head starts spinning as her mind races, yet she covers it up with a simple frown. "What was he thinking?"
"My father has always hated All Might."
"So pushing your kid past his limit is justified?! All because of a fucking rivalry?!"
"My mother thought the same. After we lost Touya, my mother changed. She couldn't even look at me since my left side resembles my father so much." Fear starts to overpower the other emotions as Shoto remembers that time in his life. "I overheard her talking on the phone while making tea and she said something I didn't understand. I asked what she meant by it and-" he downcasts his eyes, staring at his resting hands.
"Shoto," Kagome says softly while placing her left hand on top of his.
"The tea kettle went off. She grabbed it from the stove and poured it on my eye." He was quick to finish, scared of how she would react. "She did try to fix it with her quirk but it left me with this scar."
Kagome uses her free hand to cup his cheek and force him to look at her while she gently rubs her thumb over his scar. "You know you aren't your scars, right? They tell a story, but they are not what make you you." She turns his hand to hold in hers. "I'm heartbroken that happened to you and your brother, but I'm happy you are you." Shoto didn't know how to react. There was so much kindness and understanding in her gaze that it made his heart almost hurt. Her soft touch against his face sent chills down his spine and he felt lighter somehow. The shame washed away to bring some acceptance. Being able to find comfort in a friend was completely new for him, feeling safe and something else he couldn't put his finger on. Kagome pulls him into a hug much like she had done back at the hospital, yet this was different. More personal than the previous and there was something else there that he wasn't familiar with. All of his senses were on fire at her touch, his heart fluttering, and his stomach doing flips. It was frustratingly confusing to him. What was so different about you that makes me feel so helpless? Shoto relaxes against her and returns the hug by wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his head on her shoulder. "I'm guessing you want to know about the demons then?" Kagome asks after a moment of silence. Shoto gives a confirming grunt, not finding the will to move from her embrace.
"Well, it's almost unbelievable but-" A knock cuts her off just as the door opens regardless of Shoto answering.
"Ah, there you two are!" Fuyumi beams. "The brothers are ready to talk you guys back to the dorms." The pair blush wildly at being barged in on while still holding each other. Shoto is the first to let go, anger washing over him at being interrupted by his sister but doesn't voice it. He offers his hand to help Kagome off his bed and leads her out of the house as fast as his legs could carry him without running. "Well, it was nice to meet you, Kagome! You should come by sometime for dinner!" Kagome couldn't help the wide smile on her face as she is pulled along by Shoto. Finally feeling closer to the closed-off male, her stomach dances with butterflies.
"Took you two long eno- Oi get your hand off of her!" Inuyasha shouts, clearly not liking them holding hands.
"Inuyasha," Kagome says as a warning before getting into the car with Shoto. Inuyasha merely grumbles as he gets into the passenger seat. "Good boy," she teases as she sticks her tongue out at him through the rear-view mirror. This earns her a half-hearted glare from the half-demon as they take off down the street. It doesn't take long for them to get back to the dorms yet as the students go to leave, Kagome is asked to stay behind. Shoto shares a glance with her as he closes his door and heads inside the building. Stay safe. They continue down the road and away from the dorms
"Kagome," Sesshomaru begins after minutes of silence. "Perhaps I was too harsh to you back there and for that, I apologize. You have grown into a very strong warrior." Kagome almost couldn't believe what he was saying to her. "I know you can take care of yourself, but I want to make sure you have support and cover."
"What are you talking about?" Now she was confused. Where were they going anyways?
"He means he wants to put you in danger," Inuyasha crosses his arms.
"That's one way to put it," Sesshomaru briefly glares at his brother. "But to be specific, I need you to pick Koga for your internship. From there you will be working with a man named Chisaki."
"God not that neat freak," Inuyasha huffs out. "We might as well send her to the fucking le-"
"That's enough," Sesshomaru almost snaps out as they pull into their agency building. "We already have someone else one that and you know it."
Kagome had too many questions to count at this point, but she knew she wasn't going to get any information until she got to Koga. "You could at least explain-"
"Fine," Sesshomaru sighs as he parks. "If it gets you to shut up." Kagome follows them inside, not daring to speak up with Sesshomaru in a sour mood as it is. The way up to his office was silent. Doors open and close quickly as Sesshomaru sits down before starting. "Demons are used as a balance between the villains and heroes," he states bluntly. "Means if one gets too much we have the right to choose which side we support."
"So that means-"
"We need to know what's going on on the inside and we need you to do it. You have already been a target as it stands, so we are going to exploit that to get information. We have the right to not give information to heroes if we deem it necessary," Sesshomaru explains further.
"So that means Aizawa and the school?"
"Have no idea why we are connected and can't ask about it. They just have to take our word for it," Inuyasha beams as he states this. Must be nice not having to explain yourself to people. "And that now covers you. If it has anything to do with us, you don't have to explain shit!"
"But-"
"Don't question it too much right now," Sesshomaru relaxes a bit. "Koga will have more than enough time to fill you in completely." Kagome could only sigh and take their word for it, even if everything in her was screaming this was wrong. "Inuyasha, take her back, I have work to catch up on." Said demon rolls his eyes then gestures for Kagome to follow him. She glances at the older demon before heading out with Inuyasha.
"So just how much do I not know?" She felt hurt they were hiding so much from her, her mood turning completely sour from everything she's learned today.
"There's… A lot. I don't like that I can't tell you, Kagome," he sighs as they head to his car. "But right now the less you know, the better."
"I can ta-"
"Take care of yourself, there's no doubt about that," he laughs slightly. "You're one of the strongest people I know, but that doesn't mean I don't want you to be safe." Inuyasha turns to her as they reach the passenger side of his car. "You have no idea how important you are."
"Inuyasha…" Kagome breathes out as she wills herself not to cry.
"I'm sorry I ever doubted you." He pulls her into a quick hug then unlocks the car and opens the door for her. Kagome climbs in, too shocked to say anything. Closing her door then getting in himself, Inuyasha pulls out of the parking spot and heads back to the dorms.
