The flames that were once extinguished came back the moment the words left her mouth, Dabi smacking her hand away from his face. How she had figured it out in such a short amount of time, he couldn't wrap his head around and it fueled the rage and hatred growing inside him. If she knew his big secret, she could easily blackmail him and leave this 'deal'. Yet she didn't shy away from him, his quirk having no effect on her besides her clothing. Kagome stands there unmoving as the flames whip around her madly. Not a hint of fear in her eyes as they hold a steady, confident gleam. Dabi couldn't tell if it infuriated or infatuated him more, yet this is the same girl that stood toe to toe with demons and still came out on top. Perhaps he should be the one afraid.

"I know why-"

"You know nothing," he calmly cuts her off. "Nothing about me, about that fire, about anything." He steps towards her, the flames growing ever higher. "This world isn't what you think it is. It's not all black and white, hero."

"Dabi-"

"Shut it." He glares down his nose at her with such hatred it surprises her. "If heroes were actually anything like they act, I wouldn't be here, Shiguraki wouldn't, and neither would your precious Shippo." His lungs felt like ice yet the air around them was an oven, growing hotter by the minute yet not harming either party in the slightest. "You sit on such a high horse, it's fucking pathetic. You fought a war and made a wish. Great job."

Kagome's heart hammers in her chest, desperately trying to find a way to calm him down. His fire near blinding as worry begins to settle in. Someone is going to notice. And that someone could call the authorities or a hero. Yet all she could do was listen to Dabi, hearing the faint pain in his voice as he spoke.

"Your hands aren't clean yet you continue to act like a good little hero." He was mocking her at this point, trying to get something out of her than just a blank expression while her eyes betrayed her uncaring composure. He needed to make her lash out, give him an actual reason to hate her than just her knowing about his past without giving him a chance to tell her himself. "You know how many people I've been able to murder because of your help? Because you kindly healed me?" Again he gets nothing from her. Dabi could feel himself going mad from her lack of response. "The number's been climbing much faster, all of them had begged for a hero to come, to save them from me."

"What you do is your choice, not mine. What EVERYONE does is their choice! I know there is no black-and-white reality, Dabi!" There was the reaction he wanted, the backlash from such a "good girl" in order to defend herself. He wanted to laugh at her, mock her pathetic excuse for a defense. Yet there was still no sign of anger from her, not a shred of hostility yet there was pain. "To think there is a clear line is to be ignorant. Ignoring it is dangerous. And trying to live in it is suicide." Using what she could of her quirk, Kagome tries to suppress the flames once more to at least keep out of sight. Yet it was too much for her to handle with such a small amount of sleep, her eyes closing involuntarily. You still have so much to learn, dear child. Let me show you what you can do. Midoriko takes partial control of Kagome's exhausted body, gently guiding her to her knees in front of the seething villain.

Dabi didn't understand what was happening anymore. One moment she was able to stand her ground, the next she was teetering on her feet with her eyes closed. Worry floods his system and takes him by surprise, perhaps he should have waited another day to call knowing she hadn't slept well the previous night. Her quirk required her energy. Guilt hits him like a left hook as the girl slowly kneels down. "Oi, I can't take you back so you'll need to get up." He calls out as his flames are finally extinguished. Squatting down he places a hand on her head with a gentleness that he didn't think he possessed. "Come on, princess. You can't-"

'Kagome' cuts him off by throwing herself into him and knocks him back as both their worlds fade to black.

Kagome snaps her eyes open and sits up with a gasp. Her heart races as she takes in her surroundings yet confusion flashes through her. "The Todoroki estate?" She lifts herself to her feet as she eyes the front door. Moonlight shines in through the glass, the house silent.

That is until the screaming starts, the cries for help making her blood turn cold. Without another thought, she runs through the house to find the source of the screams, the voice was unfamiliar and the house layout was still new to her. "Where are you?!" She calls out I'm a failed attempt, the screaming drowning out her voice entirely. She turns a corner and sees light coming from a room, the wailing getting louder with each step toward the door. "I'm here! It's ok, I've got you!" Kagome yells as she bursts through the door and dives head-first into the fire, nearly blinded by the brightness of the flames. In the middle of everything is a small ball of a child, crying out in agony to be saved from his own fire. "Touya!" Just as she reaches him, the flames get their peak and its light drowns everything in white.

The world seems to stop completely after that, silence is a void of white with just Kagome and the young Dabi. Despite that, she wraps her arms around his small frame, holding him tightly. "It's ok now, you're safe. I've got you." Her words come out as a whisper as her heart feels his pain.

"I-I'm sorry," his small voice hiccups out as he clings onto her. "I just w-wanted to make h-him proud." Kagome runs her fingers softly through his white hair to comfort him.

"I know, Touya. It's ok. You did nothing wrong," she hushes. "He went too far."

"But I-"

"You are the child in this, he should have known better than to treat you that way." She could feel his small hands grip her clothing tightly, more tears swelling in his eyes. "You're allowed to be mad, to be absolutely outraged." Kagome couldn't imagine what he had to have gone through and that thought breaks a piece of her faith off for the heroes. If the number 1 hero can live in a lie this big, who else was hiding and what was their true goal?

The smell of iron fills her nose, bringing her back to reality as she snaps her eyes open. Kagome was laying halfway on Dabi, her head resting against his chest and her legs entwined with his. Carefully she moves her gaze to his face, finding his eyes were half closed as he was lost in thought. The blood running down his cheeks like tears shocks her, however. "Da-"

"Don't," he breathes out, refusing to look at her. "Don't ever do whatever the fuck that was again." He had to relive that day in such a vivid way and he felt vulnerable. He remembered how out of control he was, how much he wanted his father to notice him again, and how she held him. Dabi gently pushes her off of him and gets to his feet without another word to her.

"I-" Kagome starts as she forces herself to her knees. "I didn't mean to do that. I'm sorry." Usually, people are trying to get into her head, look at her memories to get under her skin and use it against her. Yet here she is nearly doing the same thing. Kagome truly feels guilty for invading his mind like she did but she couldn't deny she knew him just a little more. The fear sets in for her, thinking of her future training with Endeavour and trying to hide her newfound distress. Dabi glances down at her, unsure of what to do, of how to feel, yet he couldn't be angry at her. He gets that look of fear he wanted from her, finally seeing the discomfort and despair he was trying to pull from her; but it wasn't towards him. "Dabi-" The villain turns his back towards her and silently walks away, too conflicted with himself to properly handle the situation. "I'm sorry!" He continues to ignore her cries, fading from her view entirely. Kagome's chest felt like it was on fire, the burn against her heart and the unsteadiness of her breathing had her head spinning faster than it was before. This wasn't a game anymore.

He should have been more patient, should have waited another day to make sure she was recovered emotionally. Her apology still ringing in his ears despite being so far from her now, his heart pounding from the relived memory. Yet she didn't mock him, didn't run, or scream. She apologized. He doesn't think he can remember the last time someone had said those words to him and meant it.

Somehow managing to get back to the hideout before sunrise, Dabi darts towards his claimed area while hoping to avoid Shippo altogether. Keeping his footsteps as light as possible, he is granted luck this once as he successfully gets into his room and lets himself relax on his bed. A rare leisure he would allow himself since he always needed to be alert and ready, but tonight he would take for himself.

Dabi's relaxed state doesn't last long, as his mind runs back to how soft she was against him. The old bed underneath him creaks as he adjusts his position. He could still feel the shock of her lips against his, the amount of power that still courses through his veins from her touch. A groan escapes his lips as his temperature slowly starts to climb. Clothes feeling uncomfortably tight at this point, Dabi sits up and slips his arms out of his jacket then rips his shirt over his head to leave his torso exposed. Panting from the heat climbing in his body, he tries to will away his thoughts of her. Of how good it felt when she gripped onto his hair, of how much her eyes spoke to him -begged him- for more.

He leans back against the wall, willing that the coolness of the building would calm his body as he closes his eyes. But that was his mistake as the scene replays vividly behind his eyelids. "So what does the judge say? Am I guilty?" her words ring in his ears, how her voice challenged him to do more and not shying away from him. He wanted to ruin her.

Kagome makes it back to her dorms in record time, not daring to slow down for a moment until she was safely in her room with her door locked. An exhausted sigh escapes her as she sheds her now-torched clothes into her laundry basket and slips into pajamas. Tomorrow was only day two of three before going back to class yet she felt like she has been doing a marathon a day without rest in between for the last week. Everything was hurting and sore, and she just felt drained. Her emotions were a wreck as it was but now seeing first had what had happened to Dabi made her understand why Inuyasha is so against her training with Endeavor. But if Sesshomaru wants it, then so be it.

Another sigh passes her lips as she flops onto her bed for the last time that night. Phone be damned, she just wanted to sleep.
