Shortly after the therapy appointment,Veruca then walked straight to the car where Margaret was waiting for her. When she reached the car, she opened the passenger's door and got into the passenger's seat right next to Margaret. Margaret reached out to the driver's wheel as they started to drive back home to where Veruca lives.
"So, how was the therapy appointment?",asked Margaret
Veruca looked back up towards her mom.
"Mom?",she started.
"Yes dear?",asked Margaret.
"When you had me, were you depressed?",continued Veruca.
Margaret looked back at her in silence, before stopping the car near the bushes and trees on the side of the roadway.
"Veruca, why do you ask that?",answered Margaret nervously.
She was worried and seemed not prepared to tell Veruca anything.
"I don't know. Well, the therapist said that one of the causes postpartum depression is that someone else in the family may have had it. So, I thought of you." ,explained Veruca.
Margaret turned away from Veruca. She had a moment of silent thinking to herself. She was unsure of what to tell Veruca.
"Veruca it's true when I gave birth to you I was already depressed. Your father and I were already having problems, even before you were born. When I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't have you being brought up in an already broken marriage. I thought about having an abortion, but, at the time, abortion was illegal. I continued with the pregnancy and I was already unhappy. When you were born, I refused to hold you. I regret that every single year.",explained Margaret.
Veruca was silent. She was trying to process what Margaret just said to her. She blinked once or twice. Veruca then looked up at Margaret in confusion.
"You were already having problems even before you had me?",asked Veruca.
Margaret nodded in response
"Yes, well , your father and I couldn't communicate well. He was always working. He controlled whatever I did. We just weren't happy. I continued the pregnancy with you because I wanted you to have both a mom and a dad. I wanted you to know that we will always love you and take care of you.",continued Margaret.
Veruca looked down sadly.
"But when I had you, I couldn't take it. I wasn't as there as I should've been. I'm sorry for all the things I have done. Because of that and I know that my past actions could be affecting you badly.",said Margaret.
Veruca pressed her hand on her head as she was processing all the information she was hearing. After a while,Veruca looked straight at her mom.
"I need to get out of the car.",said Veruca.
"Veruca come on…",begged Margaret.
Veruca got out of the car as she started walking while Margaret followed her.
"Veruca, get back in the car immediately ! What you're doing is crazy!",shouted Margaret.
"I don't care, Mom, I'm going to call an Uber instead to take me home!",yelled Veruca.
"Veruca, please get back in the car! I'm sorry for what I had to say! Please get back in the car!",yelled Margaret.
"No, after all what you said,I rather take an Uber home!",screamed Veruca
"Veruca!"shouted Margaret .
"Mom, can you please leave? I'm an adult woman. I can make it home myself!",yelled Veruca.
Margaret was about to say something. She sighed as she droves off. She left and in the background, Veruca was calling an Uber for a ride.
