Jamie took a breath and let it out slowly. Things were slowly getting better for him and Eddie. The nightmares were still present, but less persistent as the weeks passed by. The therapy with the department Psychologist was helping.

"Drinks tonight?"

Face lighting up, Jamie gave Eddie his brightest smile and nodded.

"Absolutely. Where do you want to go?"

Eddie scrunched up her nose and smiled.

"How about JP Funkhouser's? Happy hour? What do you say?"

Jamie sighed and let out a soft groan.

"Can't we go somewhere, where there is something on the menu besides finger food?"

Eddie fixed Jamie with a stare.

"Fine. Can we just go to Anton's then? Get some ribs? It's all you can eat Tuesday after all."

Jamie nodded and wrapped an arm around her waist and kept smiling.

"Ok, let's go then. Might want to bring your jacket. It's kind of breezy out."

Eddie felt Jamie remove his arm from around her waist and helped her into her jacket.

"Such a gentlemen Jamie."

After putting his jacket on, he resumed wrapping his arm around her waist.

"Well, I aim to keep my girlfriend happy. Plus they do have some pretty good beer at Anton's. I'm buying and paying."

Eddie smirked and shook her head.

"Did you do that for all your past girlfriends?"

Jamie got a look in his eyes and shook his head.

"No. They haven't gone through what we have. With you, it feels right. You understand me. The others, they just went by my looks. They were shallow. They've never been on the job; they don't see the things we do every day. My point being, you see me for who I am."

Eddie looked up into Jamie's eyes as they exited his apartment. Jamie leaned down for a kiss after he closed and locked up the apartment. He was feeling that strange sensation like magnets pulling him towards Eddie again. He couldn't explain what it was. When they broke for air, Jamie looked into Eddie's eyes.

"Do you believe in soulmates?"

Eddie smiled and linked arms with Jamie.

"I feel like I should be asking you that. But yes, I do believe in soulmates. Do you?"

Jamie kept the smile on his face as Eddie lie her head on his shoulder.

"Yes, I do. I feel lucky to have you in my life."

When the couple arrived at Anton's, Jamie got them a couple of beers and Eddie ordered two half racks of ribs, while he got a salad and some onion rings to split between the two of them. Eddie took a sip of her beer after Jamie set his and hers down on their table.

"Easy Ed. We haven't even gotten the food yet."

Eddie rolled her eyes at Jamie.

"Please Reagan. I took one sip of my beer."

Jamie raised his eyebrows at Eddie and then took a sip of his beer before he answered her.

"Ooh, you called me Reagan babe. Am I in the doghouse?"

Eddie tried to hide her smirk behind her glass of beer as she took another long pull from it. She was about to comment when their food showed up.

"Oooh! My ribs! Thank you!"

Eddie rubbed her hands together and then took a rib, taking a bite. Jamie gave his own smirk before he took a bite of his salad, listening to her as she finished off her first rib.

"Would you like to be alone with your rack of ribs?"

Eddie sputtered for a moment, then dropped the rib on her plate. Grabbing for a napkin, she wiped her fingers on it and took a drink of her beer. Once she composed herself, she gave Jamie a look.

"No, I don't need to be alone with my ribs. But when something tastes this good you sometimes can't help but enjoy it with a moan of pleasure."

Jamie shook his head and took another bite of his salad. Swallowing, he answered.

"Well, it's not like I haven't heard you make those noises before. You made them all the time when we were partners."

Eddie brushed it off and dug right back into her ribs. Jamie was nearly halfway done with his salad when Eddie polished off the last of her ribs.

"Mmm mmm! That was good! Time for some onion rings."

Jamie smiled as he finished his salad and went to grab for an onion ring. Both their hands landed on the exact same one. Splitting it, they each ate one half.

"You still chew too loud."

Eddie felt her jaw drop and then she closed her mouth. Opening it again, she came up with a comeback.

"I do not! You do this weird thing where you chew your food a thousand times before you swallow it."

Jamie made a face as he took another pull from his beer. Then he gave a laugh.

"I like to make sure my food is chewed all the way, that way I don't choke on it."

Eddie scrunched up her nose.

"Good point. I tend to scarf my food and not completely chew it all the way."

Eddie's face lit up and she added to her thought.

"Ooh! The dartboard is free. Wanna play? Let's have a friendly wager. If I win, I buy the drinks for the rest of the night."

Jamie smirked at Eddie, a mischievous look in his eyes.

"What if I win? Do I get a special prize?"

Eddie squeezed Jamie's knee under the table.

"Mmm, I can come up with something the both of us might enjoy."

Jamie was out of his chair and back with a handful of darts for the both of them.

"So, do you want to go first? Or should I?"

Eddie's smirk got bigger.

"Piece of cake."
