Chapter 6: Finally moving Forward

Everything was finally moving forward. The nightmares had completely faded and were but a distant memory for Jamie and Eddie. They were finally hitting their stride with one another. It had now been almost a whole year. Eddie was welcomed at the table for Sunday dinner every week. About three months earlier Eddie had terminated her lease at her apartment and moved in with Jamie. Things were going great. Tonight Jamie had something special he'd been wanting to ask Eddie for the last month. He was currently in the kitchen with Danny pulling the roast out of the oven. Danny struck up a conversation.
"You got that look on your face kid."
Carefully closing the oven with his knee, he set the roast on the counter for a moment and put down the potholders.
"What look?"
Danny could see right through Jamie as he put the green beans in a large serving bowl.
"You're over the moon kid. Let me guess, the two of you are pregnant."
Giving Danny a look, Jamie shook his head and gave a nervous laugh.
"What? No. Nothing like that."
Danny gave Jamie a hard look.
"Ok then, what is it?"
Jamie shook his head and grabbed the roast with the potholders, entering the dining room. Eddie could read Jamie like an open book.
"Your face is flush bub. What were the two of you talking about in the kitchen?"
Jamie lowered his voice as he put the roast on the table.
"He thinks you're pregnant."
Eddie smirked.
"Should we string them along?"
Jamie went along with it and grabbed for her hand, kissing it.
"I'm game if you are."
Eddie nodded and the couple sat down as everyone started entering the dining room. After grace was said and the plates were filled with food, Jamie cleared his throat and looked at each person at the table.
"Eddie and I would like to make an announcement. We're having a baby."
Jamie braced himself for the clanging of forks on plates all around the table. He really thought his father would be the one to speak up. But it was Henry.
"Well, it's about time. We need another gg in the house. So are the two of you going to get married?"
Jamie had his left hand in his pocket. Truth be told they'd been married already for about a week. This was just a formality. They'd gone down to the courthouse and got a certificate of marriage signed by a judge and that was it. The look on Eddie's face suddenly changed to slightly worried, and she squeezed Jamie's hand.
"Look everyone I have a confession to make here. I um… I'm not pregnant. I can't lie to you guys. I just can't. The truth is, Jamie and I have actually been married since last week. Now I know you guys would have liked us to get married in the church. Jamie and I just couldn't wait that long."
Jamie smiled at Eddie. It took courage to bring that up to the family. Taking a breath in, Jamie stood up and pushed his chair out. Getting down on one knee, he pulled the ring box out of his left pocket and opened it.
"Edit Marie Janko will you marry me?"
Eddie nodded her head and felt tears of happiness come to her eyes. It felt like the first time he asked her to marry him just last week.
"Yes! I'll marry you. Again."
Everyone at the table beamed at the younger couple and Jamie pulled Eddie in for a kiss.
"Congratulations!"
When the couple broke for air, they leaned against each other's foreheads. Henry held his wine glass up for a toast.
"To Jamie and Eddie. May the happy couple have smooth sailing throughout their marriage, and may their bonds be ever strong. Also, may they have many, many children. We need more gg's in this house."
Jamie and Eddie remained with their foreheads against one another and the world around them seemed to fade away. They were ready for the next phase in their relationship.

A/N: So, this chapter was kind of choppy. Hopefully it smoothed out towards the end. I'm moving things a little farther along than originally planned, but things are about to get interesting for our favorite couple. Stay tuned!
