Tarvek tinkered away at repairing his armour as his patient continued to sleep in the best attempt at a clean bed with healing intravenous drip of healing solution that could manage after an hour of cleaning. It had been several hours since arriving here, enough time for the orc warrior to have a brief meal, and then five hours of badly needed rest. Not enough really, but they hadn't been found, and he'd gotten enough to get work done as made the space 'liveable' as a storm rolled in outside of the alien building. Near a blizzard, with bitterly cold winds whipping about with sleety snow when Tarvek had had to step out to try and use chains to jury-rig a door opening-closing mechanism.
Something that wasn't perfect as the constant rattling of the door against the larger structure continued, and winds howled and blew air inside. Tolerable in he had a small cylindrical heater setup for heat, light, and, earlier and later, for cooking. Considering the armada of enemy vessels sent here, Tarvek didn't dare risk anything with an easily traceable power source or sensor signature. Especially when he repairs to make to his suit thanks to the damage the emergency teleport had inflicted upon it. It was enough to make him snort in weary amusement: he'd fought good enough against these Jaffa that the only damage they'd managed to inflict was in causing his allies to do so to have him escape the…
"What…" a feminine, low, voice came to him, barely audible over the howling outside, and weird rattle of rock-metal and other rock-metal "…where…"
The orc didn't turn immediately, instead ending his immediate micro-task, then placing down the tool, closing the inner armour and reacting the guard mode in a few seconds. Then moving back to where the startled human female was coming away, but barely moving…likely barely able to do as her eyes blinked and she tried to lift herself up with her elbows. Tarvek simply came to kneel over her on one knee, hand pressing her back down gently, trying as best he could be calming and non-threatening "Calm captain, calm. You are still badly injured, and have a mild fever, please remain still and allow me to serve as medicus"
She looked at him in confusion a moment, but her eyes cleared surprisingly quickly, sharpness showing as she did comply, looking at him as her head touched the overly large for her pillow "Tarvek…the attack…"
Paused, wincing "Why am I naked?"
Tarvek shrugged, motioning at the clothes line he created that was now casting shadows on the wall to the right of the bed, where said clothing was hanging "We are planet-side, and caught in a storm…"
He nodded at the obvious sounds of that storm, even if the weather hadn't been that bad earlier "…and so, I was in my armour. You were not. I apologise for discomfort, but your status was less than ideal. The situation is less than ideal I am sorry to say"
"SG-1 and SG…"
Tarvek had decided on blunt honest with her, as she was clearly mental aware rather than befuddled, and attempting to lie would potentially provoke her into moving more. Something that would not help with her needed recovery "Your fellow Tau'ri, and the Asgard, have escaped alive to my understanding"
"Hailey was bleeding out….that's good" came back, then a breath, a closing and reopening of eyes as she studied her surroundings as best she could from where we lay "They teleported her, but something happened…nothing good I assume from your look?"
"No, we are on the planet again, yes, but in an alternate dimension" he stated, moving to sit down beside her in a meditative posture, hands on his knees "I believe the so-called Ancients violently ejected the Asgard vessel from your realm of existence as soon as the Asgard Thor was off his vessel. All, or much of, the Gou'ald fleet was forced out as well…I am sorry to say I am not skilled enough to force a way back on my own"
"To?" she asked, the obvious but wishing to deny it "Is there any…"
She trailed off, and Tarvek shook his head "I will not lie to thee. If a team of senior pathfinders, or a spelljammer vessel with captain of sufficient skill…yes, there would be. But I am adrift from home, and do not have those things to aid such efforts"
Paused, sighed "Even if one was not currently hiding from that fleet of vessels having escaped with the last teleportation of the Asgard vessel we were upon"
He watched her close her eyes, pained, but asking a question despite that "We're in a building?"
"Hmm, indeed" he agreed, looking about as the shadows danced upon the now ritual circle covered walls, then taking up the data-slate with a display of the world on it formed from the last data given by the Asgard starship's computer VI. Frankly it was disturbing how good the Asgard's sensors and systems were to…simply create a global survey map within mere seconds of arriving, damaged, under attack, into this dimension "This world was clearly inhabited once. Perhaps not too long ago, maybe centuries. What last information the Asgard vessel gave indicates great destruction and vast scars in the world that were mining at a guess. But I do not know. All that is clear is that we are upon this world, the atmosphere is breathable, just about, for humans and my people"
"The inhabitants?"
"I have seen none living so far" was his answer to that "Though I did find a hard-slate of what I believe to be a female of the species wearing clothing of some manner. They were short like the Asgard, though shaped like otters as Earth would have, though with less fur, two-legged stance, and mammaries indicating female and such things one supposes…"
He let out a breath "This world has been damaged, its biosphere I believe, by some sort of invasion in the past, but I have only yet seen Asgard planet scans…and about two streets of what appears to have been the ruins of a small settlement. So, I cannot see any aid coming from that direction"
That led to silence, an extended one, for several minutes, and Tarvek let it linger, for there was little he could do about things, and there were too many troubles without ensuring this was clear. There was no way back, not unless he got back home….whereupon re-entry might be possible, but already there was an active pressure against that dimension. Let alone the fact they had banished a dark god to this dimension with him, one that had a whole fleet, so fleeing to another dimension might be required, and that was either a process of slow building over days, or weeks…or a blind jump that might prevent any return. Let alone the fact that the human would require at least a day or two to recover.
"Then…" eventually came, though falling silent a moment as she opened her eyes again "What is your plan? To return to your home?"
"Ah, yes, though…I am adrift, something that I told the Asgard, but not you Tau'ri. Though I imagined you maybe have guessed at such" he admitted tiredly, the whole problem crashing down on him again "Pathfinders, outside of certain rare individuals, operate in teams. I served as part of a trade caravan that was ambushed, then I was lost in the wake of that battle. I aim for home, but how far it is….I cannot say for sure"
"You are not…a font of great news Mister Tarvek"
She sounded pained, and not from her maladies "I have been banished from your dimension by mad gods, to a ruined world, alongside a fleet serving a dark parasite god. Just as the Asgard were about to aid my journey, reducing it by many months potentially. I know you are angered, and fearful, but I shan't start this matter by lying to thee. Your best hope is to travel with me, but I travel a dangerous road, a hard road….and should this Anubis or his armies appear, fleeing swiftly will leave no time to explain. You are confined to bed…"
"I just…woke…to this" she muttered, pained, but also annoyed, looking up at him "You are bad at this. Is this your bedside manner?"
Tarvek shrugged "I am a field medicus, an assistant one at that. This is triage. If we stay hidden, as I expect, then we shall talk in detail…but if things go wrong, you at least are aware of why I drag thee about"
"Then…you plan to camp here? Till I…recover?" she winced, trying to move and discovering that was a bad idea "Then what?"
Tarvek gave a nod, hands on his knees, then raising his right to tap his Compass "My ability to travel between realms is via means of this device, which is Bonded to me. It is also how I store, and stored, my camping gear and various supplies. Blindly jumping might…lose the Path so to speak. I need time to find an adequate path. It was…"
"What you were doing with the Stargates" she stated, or perhaps asked "That's, yes…"
"It was, even before the Asgard and Ancients. The ring-portals you call Stargates worked in a faintly similar manner, and study was granting significant information" Tarvek gave a snort "All rendered moot for now as those so-called Ancients bar my Path back. I am not powerful nor senior enough to even attempt such things in opposition"
The female glared at him a moment, then letting out a breath "I prefer this to be a bad dream, but it seems, no, I'm stuck on a dead planet, with a Gou'ald fleet and army hunting me, naked in an alien's bed with a tube stuck in my arm"
"It is an intra…"
"I. Know" she muttered back weakly, though there was mild fierceness still "I am a doctor. It just does not make this a pleasant situation. The pep-talk did not help much either"
Tarvek gave another shrug. The truth hurt, but it was the truth…
