It was Easter Sunday and James, Albus, and Lily were home for the holiday. It was Lily's first year at Hogwarts and Harry and Ginny were very happy to have the kids home for Easter, especially since it was the first time all three of them had been away at the same time.
It was 9 A.M. and Harry and Ginny had just finished setting up an Easter Egg hunt for the kids in the backyard. Before setting them loose, Harry made it clear what he wanted.
"Look, whoever does find the most eggs gets bragging rights and can boast about his or her ability in search. However, if one of you should find a disproportionate number of eggs while one of the others finds none, then please do share. These eggs are filled with Easter Candy and treats. I have hidden twelve plastic eggs in the yard. There are three each in the pastel colors of pink, yellow, green, and blue. I have bewitched all of the eggs to sound a buzzer when all of them have been collected. You may begin."
James, Albus, and Lily all took off wild speeds like cheetahs chasing their prey. They ran up and down yard as fast as they could while trying to keep their eyes focused. They all agreed not to have any reaction when they found an egg so they wouldn't be distracted by wondering who was in the lead. They would just focus on looking for eggs and when the buzzer came, it came. This also allowed them to have more fun with the Easter egg hunt by getting more caught up in it.
When the buzzer finally sounded, James, who looked a little disappointed, was carrying only two eggs, one of the blue ones and one of the pink ones. Lily looked extremely uncomfortable as she hadn't managed to find any of the eggs. Albus, however, was wearing a huge smile and boasted, "I"VE GOT TEN! I"VE GOT TEN!" Sure enough, Albus was holding all three yellow eggs, all three green eggs, two pink eggs, and two blue eggs."
Harry and Ginny looked on, hoping Albus would do as Harry had asked and share.
"Ha ha James, I beat you good, " smirked Albus, "And, " he added with a laugh, "Enjoy your empty portions Lils!"
Albus opened one of his pink eggs to find a Cadbury cream egg, which he happened to know was one of Lily's favorites. Albus removed the paper from the Cadbury cream egg and walked up to Lily, deliberately wafting the smell of the Cadbury cream egg towards Lily.
"I got it and you don't, " bragged Albus, now laughing in Lily's face as he made her watch him eat the egg.
Lily, who had tried her best to be as a good sport as she could about being beat, now began to cry. The taunting had just become too much for to take, especially since it was constant and was reminding her that she had nothing.
Seeing what was going on, James now walked up to Lily and said, "Lily, I tell you what sis. I'll give one of the two eggs I got. I'll give you the pink one, since I suspect all the pink ones contain Cadbury cream eggs."
Next nanosecond, James did indeed hand over his pink egg to Lily.
"Thank you, James, " said Lily, "That's jolly decent of you to share one of your eggs with me when you only got two to begin with."
"No problem, Lil, "smiled James, "You shouldn't have to be shut out."
As James predicted, and to Lily's delight, the pink egg did contain a Cadbury cream egg.
"Yum, delicious, " cried Lily in ecstasy as she took her first bite, "This is heaven."
James, to his great delight, opened his remaining blue egg to discover a bag of Jelly Belly jellybeans.
"Jelly Belly!" said James happily, "My favorite candy and the best jellybeans in the world."
James opened the bag and grinned as he ate his first bean. "This is bliss, " thought James too himself as he tasted lemon.
Albus, meanwhile, had opened all ten eggs he got. In addition to Cadbury cream eggs and Jelly Belly Jellybeans, the green eggs had hollow chocolate bunnies in them, and the yellow eggs had Peeps.
Albus began greedily eating all the candy he'd found, but soon began to feel sick. It reached a point where he vomited all over the lawn.
Harry was furious.
"ALBUS SEVERUS POTTER!" yelled Harry, "YOU ARE BOTH CALLIOUS AND GREEDY! I TOLD YOU TO SHARE IF YOU GOT A DISPROPRTIANTE AMOUNT! NOT ONLY DID YOU NOT DO AS I ASKED, BUT YOU HAD AN IN YOUR FACE ATTITUDE ABOUT IT! YOUR GREED HAS ALSO MADE YOU SICK! AS PUNISHMENT YOU WILL NOT BE JOINING OUR EASTER LUNCH TODAY SINCE YOU MADE YOURSELF SICK!"
"Harry, " said Ginny more calmly, "I suggest we send Albus back to Hogwarts with an explanation of what happened."
"I agree with that," replied Harry simply.
Ginny quickly summoned her parchment and quill and wrote to Hogwarts telling them what had happened. She turned one of the empty chocolate bunny wrappers into a portkey and sent Albus to Hogwarts, where he was made to spend the rest of the day in the hospital wing.
Now calm, Harry turned to James and said, "James I'm really proud of you. You didn't have much to begin with and you still shared."
"Lily is as much my friend as she is my sister, " declared James fiercely, "I didn't want her to feel left out."
Lily felt a tear of emotion slide down her left cheek. She was very touched by what James had said about her being as much his friend as his sister.
"I'm sure that if Lily had ended up with two eggs and James zero, Lily would've given one of hers to James just the same, " said Ginny thoughtfully.
"I agree, " said Harry instantly, "Not only is it in both their character, but they have a great relationship."
At noon, Harry, Ginny, James, and Lily sat down to excellent Easter feast of thick juicy ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, and Jack Daniels.
Harry carved the ham and split it between himself, Ginny, James, and Lily and gave everyone a portion of mashed potatoes as well as carrots. He then filled his, Ginny's, James's and Lily's with Jack Daniels and said, "Let's have a toast to Easter."
Harry, Ginny, James, and Lily all raised their glasses and banged them together while chorusing "Easter" They drained their glasses and Harry refilled them.
Then they ate and the ham was one of the most delicious things any of them had ever tasted. As they ate, Harry and Ginny thought of how proud they were of how good James's and Lily's relationship really was.
