It was the night of Christmas Eve in 2016 and James and Lily were in Lily's room.
James and Lily had just finished what had become their own Christmas Eve tradition of watching A Garfield Christmas Special, Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer via Lily's DVDs.
"Hey, James?" asked Lily hopefully, "Would you be up to making of a review of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with me on Lily Luna's World?"
"It would be my pleasure to do so. Let's do it right now after we've literally just seen the show, " replied James cheerfully.
"My thoughts exactly, " said Lily brightly.
So, Lily set up the recording and said, "Merry Christmas, viewers of Lily Luna's World. Tonight, my favorite brother James and I will be doing a review of the classic Christmas special Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. So, let's get to it. James, what was your favorite part of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer?"
"Definitely the music, " said James joyfully, "There are so many fun and catchy songs in this show. The two best are Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Holly Jolly Christmas."
"Holly Jolly Christmas is the best Christmas song there is, " smiled Lily, "It's catchy, upbeat, and cheerful and super fun to sing along to. I'll add that I love when Clarice sings There's Always Tomorrow to Rudolph. That moment is so beautiful."
"Totally agree on Holly Jolly Christmas, " beamed James, "I don't mind There's Always Tomorrow but I'm not a Clarice fan. I'd have preferred there to have been no romance in this show. Clarice can be in it of course, but the environment in this special should have been friendship only with no romance."
"Before we leave the songs topic, " said Lily with curiosity in her voice, "Where do you stand on the We're a Couple of Misfits vs Fame and Fortune debate?"
"I personally prefer Fame and Fortune as it's quite catchy, " answered James honestly, "However, an objective analysis of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer must acknowledge that We're a Couple of Misfits is the more appropriate song for use in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as it fits the story better, especially for Rudolph and Hermy. They were never seeking fame and fortune. They were two misfits trying to find their place in the world."
"I appreciate the honest and objective answer, " said Lily gratefully, "Personally I never cared much for Fame and Fortune even as a stand alone song. I don't even know why. I just don't care for it. Personally, my favorite part of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is the Island of Misfit Toys."
"Oh, the Island of Misfit Toys is super cool, " agreed James, "I loved the cowboy on the ostrich and the choo choo with square wheels on its caboose."
"The spotted elephant is so cute!" added Lily, "And Charlie in the Box was fun. I must say, I'm really glad we have the DVD. We get to see both the rescue of the Misfit Toys AND the peppermint mine scenes."
"I LOVE the peppermint mine scene!" said James excitedly, "Yukon Cornelius is my favorite character. He's just so entertaining and quirky while remaining fiercely loyal."
"Yukon is really fun, " said Lily warmly, "But Rudolph himself is still my favorite character. Seeing our misfit hero save Christmas by guiding Santa's sleigh warms my heart every time I see that ending."
"No doubt about that, " agreed James, "Santa ending the show shouting Merry Christmas twice is a nice finishing touch as well."
"My overall rating for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a well deserved 10 out of 10, " said Lily glowingly.
"Absolutely!" said James, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is easily the best of the animated Christmas specials of the 1960s!"
"Inarguably!" smiled Lily.
