It was Monday, November 25th. 2019 and Lily was sitting in her Hogwarts dorm room and the time had just reached 10 P.M. when she heard a gentle knock on her door.
"Who is it?" asked Lily cheerfully.
"James, " said James brightly.
Lily hurriedly ran over to her door to let James in and saw he was carrying what look like a plain white square box.
"Good morning, James, " said Lily brightly.
"Good morning, Lily, " said James cheerfully, "Looking forward to going home for Thanksgiving?"
"Very much so, " said Lily happily, "I'm enjoying my first semester at Hogwarts so far, but it'll be really nice to see mom and dad again. And you know about the great Thanksgiving feast mom always makes."
"Mom's turkey is so good she could legitimately win a turkey baking competition if she entered one, " said James proudly.
"Very true, " agreed Lily glowingly.
"Mom always makes pumpkin pie for our Thanksgiving desert, " added James, "While mom's pumpkin pie is speeded and a huge personal favorite of mine. I know for a fact that your favorite kind of pie is lemon."
"Hear hear!" piped up Lily, "The very thought of lemon pie makes my mouth water. But I can't complain about mom's choice of pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving dessert. Apart from being pretty good, pumpkin pie is associated with Thanksgiving just as much as turkey, corn, and stuffing."
"True, " smiled James, "All the same, I thought you might like to have a lemon pie ahead of Thanksgiving, so I've brought one up to you."
"Is that what's in the box" piped up Lily eagerly, "A lemon pie?"
"Yes, " said James warmly, "A lemon pie just for you, Lily.
James handed Lily the box.
"Where did you manage to get a lemon pie, James?" asked Lily curiously.
"Simple, " grinned James, "I used my invisibility cloak, you know, dad's old cloak, to sneak down to the kitchens. I simply asked the house elves to make a lemon pie and they did so happily. "
"That was nice of you to think of me like that, James, " said Lily fondly.
Next nanosecond, Lily opened the box and saw perfectly crafted lemon pie that the house elves had already cut into slices.
These slices were neat and small enough to be finger food, so Lily picked up a slice out of the box and took her first bite.
"Totally tasty!" beamed Lily in an awestruck voice, "This lemon pie is totally awesome baby!"
"I'm delighted to see you enjoy it so much, Lily, " said James in a voice that oozed satisfaction, "I thought a lemon pie for you a few nights before Thanksgiving would be the perfect surprise for you!"
"It was, " grinned Lily, "You never cease to amaze me with our kindness and thoughtfulness James, "
Lily took another bite and smiled even wider.
"Superb, " said Lily glowingly, "The Law of Diminishing Returns doesn't apply to lemon pie, not for me anyway."
Lily took her next bite and just smiled.
