A/N: This a Christmas themed piece I'd originally written for my long since deleted thread Hary Potter and Parent-Child fluff. I have decided to preserve this particular one shot by posting here, but this one is more the whole family than just James-Lily.
On Saturday, December 25, 2021, while James, Albus, and Lily enjoyed their presents, Harry and Ginny spent some time preparing their Christmas dinner.
While Ginny prepared the food, Harry prepared the table.
When James, Albus, and Lily all entered the dining room for Christmas, they saw the fruits of their parents 's work.
"I love the tablecloth, " piped up James enthusiastically, "Bright red with snowflakes. Perfect."
"And look at the glasses dad set out," added Albus happily, "Green tinted with beautifully crafted wreaths and trees painted on them. I'm sure Lily loves them. "
"I do," smiled Lily, "And the plates having images of Santa on them is brillant."
"The Santa plates are totally awesome baby!" agreed James, "Dad even set out green forks."
"Green as dad's and my eyes," exclaimed Albus.
Looking around at the dishes of food, which Ginny had put in the middle of the table for everyone to serve themselves from. James observed, "Mom made us a Christmas dinner similar to our Thanksgiving dinner. Expect."
"The meat is ham instead of turkey," grinned James, "Yummy, yummy."
"And mom got us Heineken for Christmas, " observed Albus, properly recognizing what the glasses were filled with."
"It looks like the food's already been touched. Someone's already had some, " noticed Lily.
"Someone has and there's a reason for that," explained Harry, "We've already fed someone who's in the house. You'll understand in a little bit."
"Dig in, everyone," declared Ginny, not wanting any more questions just yet.
James, Albus, Harry, Ginny, and finally Lily all took turns serving themselves a little bit of everything.
Appropriately, Harry, James, Albus, Ginny, and Lily all took their first bites of their Christmas ham at the exact same nanosecond.
"Mmmmmm," cried five voices at once.
This became one of those meals where the talking was kept to a minimum because of how they'd all lost themselves in the yumminess of the meal, especially the ham.
When the plates cleared, Harry stood up and said, "James, Albus, Lily I have a surprise for you."
"What is it dad?" asked James eagerly.
"You know how muggles go get their pictures taken with Santa at the shopping mall?" inquired Harry.
"Yes," confirmed James, Alnus, and Lily.
"My understanding, "said Albus, puffing out his chestly proudly, as though showing off his knowledge, "Is that we don't do that in the Wizarding World is because of concern because of concerns about children having bouts of accidental magic at inopportune times."
"This is true," confirmed Ginny, "Especially for younger children. But Harry and I have arranged for you three to have that opportunity tonight in our own house."
Harry then said, "Everyone go James's room."
Harry, James, Albus, Ginny, and Lily all walked up to James's room where they found a Santa already sitting on James's bed fully dressed in the classic red suit and hat with the classic thick white Santa beard with a bit of white trim around the vivid red suit and had and distinct black belt.
"Hello," said the Santa in a dreamy voice that was clearly female. The voice was extremely familiar to James, Albus, and Lily.
So," continued the Santa with the dreamy female voice, "Let's have James come and sit in my lap.
James eagerly galloped to the Santa sitting on his bed and sat in her lap.
"Who's taking the pictures then?"
"I am, " said Ginny, pulling a camera out of her left hand pocket.
"Ginny is a far superior picture taker to me, " admitted Harry.
"It's not all me," said the naturally humble Ginny, "My friend Colin Creevey taught me how to take pictures properly before his untimely death."
"So," James asked Santa as James sat in her lap, "What do you want for Christmas this year?"
"A new Broomstick Servicing Kit," answered James hopefully, "My old one has seen better days."
"You've taken good enough care of it," Harry told James reassuringly, "But Broomstick Servicing Kits have shelf lives."
"And my old Broomstick Servicing Kit is past the end of its truly useful life," piped up James matter of factly, "That's why I'm asking for a new one."
"Very well, James, " cooed Santa in her dreamy female voice, now staring at the ceiling.
"Santa, you need to put your head down so I can take this picture properly, " instructed Ginny.
Santa put her head down and Ginny snapped the picture of James sitting in Santa's lap.
As James got up, Santa briefly lifted her left hand and dropped a mini red and white peppermint candy cane into his left hand.
"Albus next," called Santa.
Albus appeached Santa more slowly and more seriously and settled himself on her lap feeling calm.
"So, Albus, what is your Christmas wish?"
"Any book on Transfiguration I don't currently own," answered Albus, "I give you permission to go into my room and look at my collection of Transfiguration books before you leave so you know which ones I'm lacking."
"That was as predictable as the sun rising in the east and setting the west, " smirked Harry.
"Santa," observed Ginny "You're staring off at the wall now, I need you to look straight ahead to take this picture."
Santa repositioned herself appropriately and Ginny snapped the photo of Albus in Santa's lap.
Albus got up to leave and Santa gave him a mini red and white peppermint candy cane just like she'd given James.
"Lily's turn," called Santa.
Lily walked up to Santa with a kindly smile on her face and sat down in her lap.
"Lily, what shall I bring you this Christmas?" inquired Santa.
"Anything hot pink will do' said Lily cheerfully.
"That's all well and good, " said Harry, "But Santa wants you to pick something."
"How about a hot pink school trunk?" requested Lily, 'I don't know if they come in hot pink, ever, but-"
"I'll see what I can do," promised Santa, "But I promise you'll find something hot pink on Christmas morning."
This time Santa managed to keep her focus and Ginny snapped the picture.
As Lily got up, Santa provided her too with a mini red and white peppermint candy cane."
"Thank you, Santa!" chorused Harry, Ginny, James, Albus, and Lily.
"Before Santa leaves, " said Harry brightly, "I think it would interest you three to know who agreed to serve as Santa so you could get your pictures taken with Santa.
"LUNA!" replied James, Albus, and Lily in unison a nanosecond later.
Santa took off her suit and indeed her true self to be Luna Lovegood.
"There must not be too many wrackspurts around here today, " said Luna dreamily, "Your brains are working really well."
"Where's mom?" said Lily suddenly.
"She's gone to develop the pictures she just took in a potion so that they'll move, " explained Harry.
Ginny returned a few minutes and a few nanoseconds later with the developed pictures and handed the appropriate one each to James, Albus, and Lily.
James, Albus, and Lily all smiled happily at the pictures, which had come out fantastic.
"Luna," said Lily warmly, "Thank you for playing the role of Santa here and allowing us to get Santa pictures."
"And thank you mom for taking the pictures," added James sincerely.
"Thanks, are also in order for dad for setting this up, " finished Albus.
""I appreciate the acknowledgement and I'm sure Harry and Ginny do as well, " cooed Luna, "But I've got to ask, how did you three know it was me?"
"VOICE!" exclaimed James, Albus, and Lily together.
Everyone grinned at each other.
It was nice for James, Albus, and Lily to get the opportunity to have Santa pictures taken.
All three Potter children looked down at pictures with their faces glowing brighter than the interior of the sun.
