Chapter 80: Amazo Virus IV
January 18th
Age 764 (2014), Switzerland, Geneva
Time seemed to warp as Frieza, once imprisoned beneath the icy depths of Lake Geneva, suddenly broke free, his malevolence once again unleashed upon the world. The Earth's heroes had known that the Frost Demon would eventually escape, but not in such a peculiar fashion. Yellow chains burst out of the lake's frozen surface, instantly shattering it. Superman, Wonder Woman, Fury, and Trunks reacted quickly, retreating to the stormy skies with curiosity. Ki was capable of a great number of things, but materializing chains wasn't an ability that any of the heroes knew.
Thick chains swirled and swiveled around Frieza, seemingly moving with a mind of their own as he rose out of the ice. The would-be emperor of the universe was furious, and he violently ignited his Ki to reiterate that fact. A sizzling purple aura surrounded him as he gazed at the ring on his middle finger. He spoke to it, and it responded back. None of the heroes aside from Superman could hear what was being said, but if they could, they would've been just as surprised as Clark.
The voice emanating from the yellow ring was sinister but loquacious and spoke with an arrogance eerily similar to Frieza's. The Frost Demon was discussing something regarding a recharge, but Clark couldn't make heads or tails of what that meant exactly. Clark wanted to observe further and gather more information, but Fury dashed those plans. Trunks' raven-haired companion bolted toward Frieza before Clark could even voice his disapproval.
Frieza blinked, and the warrior from the future was on him. Her fist lashed out and nearly struck his jaw, but a solid brick wall materialized from thin air and impeded the strike. The yellow construct momentarily halted Fury, but she eventually forced her way through it, crushing it with her bare knuckles, but by then Frieza had retreated several feet, angrily yelling at his ring.
"You promised to show me how to use this power!"
"I did. But my tutelage requires you to be a humble student and learn."
"You dare speak to me like this? I'll take this ring off and –"
"You'll do no such thing if you want to live. Your enemies outnumber you, and irrespective of your feelings towards my words, this ring is the only hope you have. You're wise enough to recognize that; otherwise, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now."
Frieza growled. "Hmph. After my victory is assured, I'll be the one who will teach you about humility."
"If those foolish notions help to soothe your ego, so be it, but back to the task at hand. Your ring requires a recharge, but your lantern is out of reach. That could be a problem, but you can recharge your ring with fear. Either yours or your enemy's."
"Fear? My fear? I have none." Frieza scoffed, but the veracity of his words was immediately brought into question as Fury attacked once again. She was relentless, and this time, no construct that Frieza could forge was able to protect him. She smashed through multiple shield constructs and hit Frieza so hard his neck actually snapped. It healed in seconds, but Frieza's shock and anger remained.
"Your constructs are only as powerful as the fear they emanate from."
Frieza scowled. That advice would've come in handy prior to Fury's assault, but nonetheless, he would use the newfound information to his advantage. He created a rope and used it to corral Fury. It didn't hold her for long, but it served its purpose and allowed Frieza to gain some distance once he threw her backward. She soared for a while and was nearly out of view, but Trunks replaced her in an instant.
Frieza cursed his luck. Vegeta's son wasted no time attacking the Frost Demon. Two Ki blasts exploded in Frieza's face, momentarily destroying his eyes. They regenerated just in time for Frieza to see Wonder Woman punch him in the gut. He gasped and lurched forward while Superman finished off the duo's combo with a double axe handle smash.
Frieza hit Lake Geneva with a giant splash that sent water sputtering everywhere. His head was spinning, his ears were ringing, and he was humiliated beyond belief. The voice in his ring was talking, but Frieza paid it no mind; his thoughts were elsewhere. He'd come to Earth to conquer it, to destroy it, to raze it to the ground but the tables had turned in spectacular fashion. Memories of his failure on Namek crept back into his mind.
Goku's steely teal Super Saiyan eyes were imprinted in his memory banks, and even here amidst the darkness of Lake Geneva's frigid water, they haunted him. Frieza's failure to completely eradicate the Saiyans haunted him. Frieza's failure to capture the Dragonballs haunted him. His reign over the galaxy was already slowly loosening, and news of his defeat on Earth would surely spark more rebellions throughout his empire. Everything he had built would be lost.
Frieza wouldn't allow it! His ring hummed to life, glowing intensely. The fear of loss, the fear of defeat, the fear of suffering another humiliation charged his ring to maximum levels. The voice in his ring applauded him for the feat, albeit mockingly. The yellow ring seemed to be nearly identical to a Green Lantern ring minus a few noticeable differences, and with that in mind, Frieza began to scheme. His ring was just another piece of technology that could be manipulated, and with his upgrades, Frieza could hack into nearly anything. The Frost Demon smirked and put his powers to work.
Dragonball DC
The Earth's heroes had spent the past several minutes arguing over their next course of action. Fury, who very much lived up to her codename, was eager to dash into Lake Geneva and finish Frieza off once and for all. Superman and Wonder Woman cautioned patience, but the young woman from the future wasn't fond of their ideas and didn't hesitate to express her dismay in colorfully descriptive language. Trunks was much calmer and level-headed, but in the end, the Demi-Saiyan agreed with Fury; Frieza had to die as quickly as possible.
Clark would never agree to kill, but his companions did, even Wonder Woman. The queen of the Amazons tried to convince Clark that there were no other options, but the man of steel wouldn't hear it. There was always an alternative. The Phantom Zone was one obvious option. King Cold was already imprisoned there, and Superman was sure that the Earth's heroes could collectively toss Frieza into it as well. All it would take was a little bit of effort, but Clark stood alone in his stance.
"While we waste time bickering amongst ourselves, Frieza is gathering his strength!" Fury shouted. She was on edge, and no one could blame her.
"Fury's right, Superman, we have to make a decision soon. Every second we wait, we put more lives at risk." Trunks said. It was bad enough that he couldn't sense Frieza's Ki, and now the Frost Demon had a replica of a Green Lantern ring.
"We'll put more lives at risk if we act without strategizing first. Frieza has a new weapon. We all saw it for ourselves. It mimics a Green Lantern ring, and for all we know, it could be one." Superman argued.
"Kal-El is right. We need to examine Frieza's ring and determine what it truly is before making any brash decisions. It could be a cheap imitation or the real thing." Wonder Woman added. She'd never seen a Green Lantern ring in person, but J'onn's memories had displayed what it was capable of.
"It's too late now. All of this was for naught; the time for discussion is over," Fury drew everyone's attention and pointed at Lake Geneva, which was beginning to bubble. "Ready yourselves, Frieza's about to make his next move!"
Seconds after the words left her lips, four life-sized yellow constructs zoomed out of the water. They were mirror images of Frieza in his various forms. The construct of Frieza in his first form led the charge. Fury didn't hesitate and sped to engage it. She launched a haymaker, hoping to destroy the construct as quickly as possible, but her fist just bounced off its face. Fury's shock turned into concern as the other constructs swarmed her allies.
They rocketed past her, and there was nothing she could do to impede their path. Her hands were literally tied with construct in front of her. It managed to put her in a standing arm bar. The height disparity between the two opponents made the feat even more impressive, but Fury didn't have time to dwell on that. She summoned her Ki and sent the construct tumbling into the wind.
Fury glanced overhead and spotted Trunks, Wonder Woman, and Superman all engaged with various constructs. Trunks fought the construct of Frieza in his second form, while Diana and Clark battled Frieza's third and final forms. It was difficult to determine who was winning. Trunks, Superman, and Wonder Woman were clearly stronger than the constructs, but none of their attacks were able to vanquish their foes.
A blow to the chin forced Fury to focus on her own fight. Her brief lapse in concentration granted her opponent a free hit. It didn't hurt at all, it was a light tickle, if anything, but the construct followed his initial attack with several others. Fury ducked and rolled in and out of her opponent's seamless combos. They danced across the sky as Fury backpedaled faster than the construct could keep up with.
The construct was good, damn good, and was likely as strong as Frieza's actual first form, but Fury had surpassed that power as a child. The construct threw another punch, but this time Fury caught it. She squeezed and squeezed until cracks were visible in the construct's shape. They spread from its fist all the way down to its shoulder blade. Fury likely would've been able to shatter its arm, if not its whole body, had Frieza not interfered.
The galactic despot conjured a baseball bat and hit her from behind with a thwack so hard Superman's teeth rattled. Fury veered off into the distance and crashed face-first into a patch of scorched dirt. She hit the ground, wondering how the hell Frieza even knew what baseball was. Hundreds of feet away, the Frost Demon set his sights on Trunks. The Demi-Saiyan was the one who had initially humiliated him, and as the teen fought his construct, Frieza felt his anger rise.
That good-for-nothing monkey didn't even bother to transform into a Super Saiyan to battle his construct! He was in regular form! Since the teen was so arrogant, Frieza would have to bring his ego down a peg. Frieza created a bow and several pairs of arrows. He'd never been fond of archery, and under normal circumstances, his aim would have been off, but with his ring and the machinery inside him guiding him, he couldn't miss.
Frieza launched a flurry of arrows at Trunks. There were dozens of them, and they were too numerous for even Frieza to count. The Frost Demon's construct kept the Demi-Saiyan occupied and distracted. The teen's back was turned to Frieza, so he never saw the impending assault, but somehow, someway, the Demi-Saiyan managed to phase out of sight in the nick of time. Frieza and his construct were left gaping as Trunks vanished and then reappeared behind the Frost Demon.
"You've gotten stronger, I'll give you that, but one thing you can't account for is my speed," Trunks whispered into Frieza's ear. Both warriors hovered in place, frozen, and Trunks cursed his luck for not having his sword in hand right now. He would've slit Frieza's throat.
Frieza snorted, barely containing his laughter. "Don't get too cocky, I haven't shown you anything yet." His ring glowed, and a yellow light encased both warriors. Trunks glanced down and saw a large yellow socket wrapped around his legs. He frantically tried to break out of it, thrashing against its sides with both feet, but the construct just got tighter and tighter. Frieza flipped around and slapped him repeatedly, switching from cheek to cheek in a harmonious rhythm.
The blows were little more than mosquito bites to Trunks, but their purpose was to humiliate the Demi-Saiyan as he had so often done to Frieza. Satisfied with his handiwork, the Frost Demon chucked Trunks into Lake Geneva and put a clamp on his mouth and nose. He blasted the teen in the chest with a Ki beam as one final insult. He hoped Trunks would drown, but that was wishful thinking at best.
Wonder Woman saw Trunks sploosh into the water and broke off from her battle to assist him. She elbowed Frieza's final form construct in the jaw and made a mad dash toward Trunks. The construct gave her chase, but she was too fast for it to keep up with. She was halfway to Trunks when the real Frieza suddenly phased in front of her. She stopped dead in her tracks, something she instantly regretted as the Frost Demon hit her with a conjured sledgehammer. Her head jolted back, and she was nearly thrown off balance, but she managed to steady herself.
Frieza's final form construct pounced on her from above. It hit her with a punch that rattled the air and sent vibrations echoing down into the lake. Diana reciprocated with one of her own, and the pair rapidly began exchanging blows. Wonder Woman held the advantage, as usual. That had been the case during their previous scuffles, but she just couldn't seem to destroy the construct no matter what she did.
She struck her opponent with enough force to topple mountains, but the construct refused to crumble. What material was this monstrosity crafted from? Whatever it was, it was something that would've inspired awe from Hephaestus. The real Frieza joined their fray and smacked Diana with a heavy spiky mace. It scrapped across her teeth and lips, drawing blood.
Diana stumbled back and wiped her leaking lips with her palm. One of her teeth had been chipped, and she felt one of the mace's spikes swirling around in her mouth. It surprisingly had no taste; it was akin to water. Diana spit it out and some blood. Frieza resolved to draw more of it.
The galactic despot and his construct bull rushed Wonder Woman. Her bracelets stopped the initial brunt of their attacks, but another one of Frieza's constructs yanked her from behind. The Frost Demon created a pair of pliers and used them to fling the Amazon like a frisbee. Superman caught her before she rocketed too far, and she silently thanked the Kryptonian as he cradled her in her arms.
He mouthed the words "no problem" and was hit from the rear by one of Frieza's constructs. Frieza's hideous third form plowed into Superman and dislodged Diana from his arms. Wonder Woman sprang into action, flipping in mid-air, and grabbed the construct by its long tail. She tugged on it and began spinning. She rotated rapidly, increasing her velocity to the point where a miniature tornado formed around her and her enemy.
Diana doubted the construct could feel pain but if it could, her next move was sure to hurt. She increased her speed one final time and hurled the construct into the stratosphere and surely beyond it. Frieza's third form wouldn't be back for a while. That should've been good news, but as Diana decelerated, she found herself and Superman surrounded by Frieza and his creations.
"I'm almost impressed," the tyrant mocked with a series of slow claps. "Let's see how well you handle…." His voice trailed, distracted. A bright light down below beckoned his attention. Its glow was initially faint deep below Lake Geneva but grew increasingly brighter and brighter. If not for his upgrades, Frieza would've been forced to cover his eyes. The radiant light burned as intensely as a star, and everything in the nearby vicinity was illuminated in its brilliant glow.
For a few brief moments, the darkness of the night and its storms were washed away. Frieza heard a scream so loud it shook the despot to his core. It was frighteningly reminiscent of the man he had come to kill…Goku. Superman and Diana battled his constructs as Frieza observed an almost angelic yellow light streak toward him. Trunks had transformed again, but there was something noticeably different about the teen this time around.
Trunks attacked Frieza with blind fury. All of his attacks were kill shots; nothing was coordinated. The Demi-Saiyan was burning through his Ki in hopes of ending the battle as quickly as possible. Even with his Yellow Lantern ring, Frieza knew he was still outmatched in raw power, but the accessory on his finger provided him with a myriad of tricks and abilities.
Frieza took a punch straight on, and his head exploded. It was a brutally painful sensation, but he regenerated in less than a minute. The Frost Demon used that time to scan Trunks' mind with his ring. The Demi-Saiyan continued battering the rest of his body as his skull healed. Frieza peered deep into the recesses of Trunks' mind and scoured for any inkling of fear he could use.
Frieza grinned once he found what he was looking for. With his head now fully regenerated, Frieza created a gigantic yellow fence to separate himself from Trunks. It took nearly all of Frieza's concentration to maintain it as the Demi-Saiyan struck it with punches that parted the dark clouds above them. Frieza's scanners picked up on Fury lurking nearby, increasing his sense of urgency. He had to act quickly.
Frieza drew from Trunks' memories and forged two new constructs. His other constructs would surely weaken from the amount of fear he was pouring into these latest creations, but it would be worth it. Trunks finally tore through Frieza's fence and was about to choke the Frost Demon but suddenly halted, mouth agape as his knees trembled.
"No! No! No!" Trunks cried in terror.
Superman and Wonder Woman turned their heads in worry and confusion at the sound of Trunks' shrill voice. The enemies in front of them miraculously dissipated, but there were two new constructs floating beside Frieza. One of them was a man, and the other was a woman. They looked young, but Clark and Diana couldn't decipher their exact age. They were dressed like generic youths from any Western country.
Jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, and boots comprised their outfits. Trunks should've spurred into action before the constructs attacked him, but the Demi-Saiyan was still too stunned to move. Superman and Wonder Woman hadn't known the teen for very long, but this behavior was totally out of the norm; they'd never seen him like this before. Fury rushed to his aide upon hearing his chilling screams, but she, too, remained motionless, frozen with fear. Her lips quivered, repeating the same ominous phrase over and over.
"Android 17 and 18!"
Frieza still had no idea who these beings were. When he'd peeked into Trunks' mind, all he'd seen were images of his new constructs brutalizing Trunks, Fury, and an assortment of miscellaneous people. From the look of things, Android 17 and 18, as Fury had called them, were more powerful than the Earth's heroes, and if that were indeed true, that presented major problems for Frieza. Trunks was already stronger than him. Two warriors that outclassed Trunks meant that Frieza likely stood absolutely zero chance against them, especially if they were currently on Earth.
But why hadn't any of his soldiers detected either of these mysterious warriors? Were they in hiding? Were they biding time, waiting to strike when the right opportunity presented itself? Androids 17 and 18 clearly weren't heroes, so what was their deal? All these questions left Frieza perplexed and frustrated. This planet was a never-ending conundrum, but irrespective of that, there was still the task at hand.
Frieza's enemies had to perish. The Frost Demon unleashed his Android 17 and 18 constructs. They tackled Fury and Trunks, pushing them towards the remains of Geneva. With those two out of the way, Frieza turned his attention to Superman and Wonder Woman. The duo gave each other a nod and blitzed the Frost Demon. Wonder Woman's fist nearly decapitated Frieza; he narrowly dodged it by the thinnest of margins.
Before he could breathe a sigh of relief, Superman's heat vision plunged into his chest and knocked the air from it. The heat was searing and left a profuse ebony scar on his body. It healed quickly, but it still stung, nonetheless. Frieza created a fly swatter and smacked the Kryptonian with it. The man of steel skipped across the sky, and Wonder Woman lunged at his arm. The Amazon grabbed it and bent it back with enough force to split the seven seas.
Frieza's arm snapped like a twig, and the horrified despot gnashed his teeth as Diana tore the appendage from its limb. Her objective was to remove Frieza's Yellow Lantern ring by any means necessary. She grabbed the Frost Demon's hand and tried to rip the ring off his finger, but a yellow bolt of energy socked her in the face, loosening her grip. The ring conjured a massive boxing glove and hit Diana with a straight jab.
It crumbled against the Amazon's face, but Frieza used the opportunity to reattach his arm to his body. He couldn't allow that to happen again. He had to maintain his distance from her and any other opponent at all times. Long-range attacks were his best chance for that. Frieza raced towards the clouds with Superman and Wonder Woman hot on his trail. He tried multiple evasive maneuvers, but he couldn't shake them.
Fighting them head-on would be foolish, but if he could figure out what their fear was, he wouldn't have to engage them in close combat.
"Look at the great Lord Frieza, scurrying from his enemies!" Wonder Woman goaded from behind. Her voice reverberated over faint echoes of thunder.
Superman raised a brow, confused by his companion's behavior, but Diana urged him to play along, and he did.
"You know, you aren't as powerful as I thought you'd be. For the leader of a galactic empire, you're a disappointment. Your father put up a much better fight than you!" Superman felt odd making such derisive comments, even to an enemy, but it was all for a purpose.
"What did you say!" Frieza screeched as he whipped his head around. He halted his flight and shifted course to engage Diana and Clark. His ring tried to warn him to make a wiser tactical decision, but he disregarded it. A yellow helmet, breastplate, pauldrons, rerebraces, and vambraces formed over his body. He was reacting recklessly to their words, but he wouldn't be a complete idiot about it; he would at least protect himself.
Frieza dove into Superman, who eagerly met his challenge. The two warriors slammed into each other, creating a shockwave that flung Diana back. She recovered and saw Superman headbutt Frieza. The Frost Demon's helmet cracked down the middle but remained whole for the time being. Wonder Woman grabbed her lasso from her hip and twirled it before throwing it at Frieza. It latched onto the Frost Demon's neck, and with a violent tug, Diana forcefully dragged him towards her.
Frieza kicked and screamed on the way there, haphazardly firing Ki blasts, but Superman managed to prevent the tyrant from escaping Diana's lasso. Once he got within arm's reach, Wonder Woman locked Frieza into a rear naked chokehold. Her grip was ironclad, and if Frieza tried anything, Diana would snap his neck with no hesitation. That wouldn't be enough to eliminate the Frost Demon, but the time it would take for him to regenerate would disorient him.
Superman's hand clamped down hard on Frieza's. The Frost Demon's hands were almost lifelessly cold and metallic. Frieza was more machine than anything now, but if he had remained an organic lifeform, Superman was sure he would've been sweating profusely. Clark slid two fingers over Frieza's ring and tried to pull it off. Frieza could regenerate, so Superman had no reservations about using all his strength to pry it loose. If all else failed, he'd just tear the limb off, but removing the ring was easier said than done.
The ring seemed superglued to Frieza's finger, and even after Clark tore the finger off Frieza's hand, the ring refused to budge. Superman focused his heat vision on the ring in hopes that superheating it would release it, but that too failed. Even as he struggled to breathe, Frieza still mustered up enough energy to smirk at Clark's failures. The Kryptonian could practically hear the Frost Demon's insults blaring in his mind.
Superman couldn't pull the ring from Frieza's finger, but he could do the next best thing; he could remove it from the battlefield. Launching it into space was an option, or Clark could house the ring at Fortress of Solitude until the battle was over. He decided on the latter. He was about to blast off towards his stronghold when suddenly, something or rather, someone breezed by him. Clark blinked, and Frieza's finger with the ring was missing.
Clark, Diana, and Frieza all shared baffled expressions. Who could've done this? Who had gotten the drop on Superman? Who was even that fast? The culprit soon unveiled himself, revealing his location as he laughed maniacally from above the trio.
"Vegeta!" Superman and Wonder Woman said in unison. They recognized that voice anywhere.
"Guilty as charged," the prince of all Saiyans grinned as he eyed the ring in his palm. "Frieza squandered this power, but I won't!"
A big thank you to everyone who reviewed chapter 79!
A/N: Sorry for another long intermission between chapters. This story's anniversary is on Friday, and I'm aiming to have another update by then.
Q/A:
Dontus -not Donut- Powerus: Goku will appear soon.
OmniIBIBUltraInstinctGodzilla: King Coldcan't use his other form for too long.
rizkyandi085: Yes, Fury can use Ki.
Yorozuya Forever: Fury's upbringing will be explored in future chapters.
DRAGONDAVE45: Gohan is helping the other heroes, like Batman, prevent collateral has Supergirl.
Agrimika: Fury is very powerful in her base form. You'll see the full extent of her abilities fairly soon.
Guardian x15: Fury's base is strong, but I won't disclose how strong it is yet. I'm not sure what I'll do with the Cell games because they won't work well in a shared universe. Superheroes aren't the type to stake the fate of the planet on a one-on-one tournament. They'd just collectively attack Cell.
Vault Hunter: Your astute deductions always impress me.
1201: Yes, I have plans for Shazam. He'll play a big role during the Buu saga.
Playershadow15678: Thanks for the kind words. Batman does own some Capsule Corp products, but I've never shown him use them. That's something I should do; thanks for mentioning that. Frieza's flagship is still intact. You bring up a good point about the advancement of Earth technology following all these invasions.
Zoid: Goku will appear soon.
Wickerstein: Your joke about Majin Buu breaking out of the Phantom Zone was pretty hilarious and that would actually open up a huge can of worms. Superman and other heroes' stance on killing will be challenged, heavily. I have a storyline that will address a lot of your thoughts.
kaffeenator666: DBM has been running longer than my story, so if I had to bet, I'd guess that story finishes first, but who knows lol. Yes, Trunks is dating Superman's daughter in the future. When Vegeta eventually finds out he's going to have a fit. You won't have to wait too much longer to see Goku. The Broly in this story will be an amalgamation of DBZ and DBS. There are certain qualities I like about both characters, and I prefer ketchup.
Thelazycrow: Trunks' secret is already out of the bag, so there's no point in trying to hide it now. I like your idea about the Hellbat armor. I have something planned for it in a future story arc.
Raul The Frustrated Fanboy: 1. Wonder Woman's height has varied depending on the writer, but canonically, in the modern era, she's been depicted as being over six feet tall. Goku is 5'9. I don't know what's "weird" or "woke" about that. 2. That's your opinion, but I disagree. What's really dragging is the rate of my updates. 3. Yes, the rate of updates for this story is quite slow at times, and I'm aware of that. If you've lost interest now, I still thank you for your previous support.
MNRCH ASHBORN: I'll try to update faster and thanks for the kind words.
Jackalope89: I hope your move is going well and good luck with your back surgery. Toriyama was a big loss for everyone. Thanks for pointing out my mistakes in the previous chapter; hopefully, this chapter has fewer , Diana's height is usually over six feet, but her exact height depends on whoever's writing her at the time. I haven't really been keeping up with much DC stuff either, outside of a few things. I've been reading a lot more Marvel comics recently.
ScienceAlienDude: Goku, Diana, and Gohan will have more family moments in future chapters.
Hyperman15: Thank you for pointing out that mistake. Many of the previous chapters need revision, and I'm trying to do better.
