So, there are some NFL Rush Zone fan art which turns some of the Rusherz (mostly Sonar) into MerRusher.
And this story appeared in my mind.

Part 1: A reverse Little Mermaid tale
May 1, 2017; Miami, night...
Sonar was running from the three Anitcorians, holding the Megacore in his hands. He had no chance to call the Guardians, or any help for that matter. He knew what they wanted to, not just his Megacore, the situation made worse with his body feeling like it's been on fire lately. He ran to the ledge overlooking the ocean, turning fast.
Stellaria: No where to run now, even though we did love the chase.
Angkoro: Can you please just come with us along with your Megacore.
Sonar gulped sweating, his Megacore glowing hard.
Sonar: *deep panic* N-no. I-i WON'T
Sonar took a step back, wincing at the new found pain in his legs...had they always hurt this much?
Zich: *grumbles*
Stellaria: Why do you Rusherz like you have to be so stubborn.
Sonar throat began to hurt, but he took a deep breath and let out a SONIC WAVE; sending the Anticorians back and him off the ledge into the water.
SPLASH!

IT HURT. IT HURT SO MUCH. HIS LEGS WERE ON FIRE, HIS BODY WAS ON FIRE. HIS CHEST HURT, HE WANTED TO SCREAM.
Sonar: *pain* A-AH-AH-GASP!-
The Megacore blinded the area, Sonar's shadowed figure curling in the water...before he passed out in the flash with the Megacore falling into the depths.
Few weeks later, Browns Stadium...
K-9 sighed, HE COULD TELL THIS WAS NOT GOING THEIR SEASON. In fact he would be surprise if they make it out unscaved...but right now, his thoughts were on the situation outside his team. Sonar, had gone MIA few weeks back.
K-9: -sighs- This season is going to be rough if we don't find Sonar.
-It was then his watch beeped, looking to see it was from Florida.
K-9: *Touches Helmet* K-9 Here-
?: KARNIVEROUS.
K-9 froze in place, his full name being said.
K-9: *Worry* P-Peg-Leg?
Peg-Leg: *fear* I-I need...The stadium, the vault-it's-he's-
It was a RARITY to hear such fear in the Tampa Bay Rusher's voice.
K-9: Okay hold on, calm yourself. Where are you?
Peg-Leg: *fear* H-hard Rock-Hard rock Cafe Stadium-
K-9, though confused why he was there, nodded as he made the portal jumping in...feeling a pit form in his stomach.
Miami, Hard Rock Stadium...
Peg-Leg was freaking out at what he saw, shaking as he breathe hard.
K-9: PEG-LEG! What's going-*reaches him; sees inside-pales* Whoa.
The Dolphin's Megacore vault, was a mess.
K-9: What happened in here.
Peg-Leg: *shakes his head;fear*-I-I don't know, we've been looking everywhere for him the past few weeks..but no luck. Then I decided to check the Stadium..and look.
K-9: Shards...Sonar what happened to you?
Both were in silent..then K-9 had a thought.
K-9: Peg-Leg, BRB! I think i have an idea!
...
K-9: *To the dog* Alright Swagger, I know this is way out of your element but we need your help.
Peg-Leg stood next to K-9 as he gave the bullmastiff some core energy, the dog wagging it's tail.
K-9: Sonar's been missing, and it's been a few weeks. But perhaps your sniffer could help us find him; Can you do that?
Swagger barked as if to say yes. He started walking around sniffing the ground.
Peg-Leg: Aye, I hope this works. Dogs are known for having great senses.
K-9: I gave him a extra boost from my team's Megacore, so perhaps this could be-
Peg-Leg felt his watch being pawed at, both looking down to see the bullmastiff pawing it.
K-9: What is it boy?
Swagger kept on pawing the ocean area, making the two look.
Peg-Leg: Aye...you think he's in the water?
Swagger barked as he ran off, promoting the two to follow him.
K-9: Atta boy Swagger!

later...
The two Rusherz followed Swagger as they ran through the beach area.
Peg-Leg: It appears we're getting close! I'm hoping we are close!
K-9: Yeah, Swagger gets the zoomies when he's close to someone he know-
Both tripped as K-9 caught himself...Peg-Leg not so lucky as he fell head first in the water.
...
Peg-Leg eyes closed on impact..slowly opening to see.
Peg-Leg (thoughts): SONAR!?
Sonar was looked at him in shock as Peg-Leg looked him over. He was relieved he saw in injuries and...FINS?
...
K-9: *worry* PEG-LEG!?
Peg-Leg shot up from the water, getting out and grabbing K-9 with Swagger following them.
Peg-Leg: I saw him K-9! Sonar is heading the the alcove he looked so scared!
K-9: W-What? Why did he run?
Peg-Leg: No idea me minds is playing tricks on me, he looked like he had fins!
K-9 shoke his head in confusion as they ran.

The two reached the alcove, seeing teal in the water as they ran over.
Peg-Leg: *joy* Sonar there you are! Why'd you run away *grabs his hand* we've been looking everywhere for-
SPLASH!
...
Both were left in stunned silence as Sonar surfaced. It was Sonar for sure, but his helmet was gone as was his uniform..
...HIS LEGS HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH A TAIL, A MERMAID'S TAIL.
K-9: *stunned*
Peg-Leg; *stunned*
Sonar looked at them in fear, shaking as he shrank back.
Peg-Leg: *quick* Whoawhoawhoa Sonar it's okay, i promise everything okay..w-we can fix this, we can certainly fix this.
Sonar un-shrunk himself seeing Peg-Leg might have been shocked, but he was also worried for him. K-9 petted Swagger nodding, assuring Sonar he was the same as well. Reassured, Sonar brought himself to land, revealing the full transformation he had gone through.
K-9: Sonar, what happened to you? Your a MerRusher.
Sonar opened his mouth to speak...no words came out as his eyes filled with tears shaking.
Peg-Leg: *sorrow* C-Can you not talk?
Sonar nodded as his tears fell fast, crying in silence. The two went in comforting their friends, Swagger whimpering as he nuzzling Sonar's side.
K-9: *sorrow* Sonar, it's okay. We're here.
Sonar buried his face in his hands, Peg-Leg bringing him in a hug.
..
It took a while for Sonar to calm down, sniffles being the only sounds he could make.
Peg-Leg: K-9 we need to get Sonar home, we must find a way to get him back to normal.
K-9: Agree.
Peg-Leg was about to pick up Sonar..before noticing something else.
Peg-Leg: Are-you in pain?
Sonar nodded, the Brown Rusher seeing the pain in the Dolphin Rusherz' eyes now.
K-9: I'm getting a reverse little mermaid from this.
Both turned to him as K-9 picked Swagger up petting him.
Peg-Leg: Reverse?
K-9: The original. The mermaid transforms into a human but at a cost; she loses her voice and her legs feel like she's walking on knifes.
Peg-Leg paled a bit at this situation..before taking a breath and gently lifting Sonar up.
Peg-Leg: Well unlike the prince in the OG we're not dense. *determined smile* We're going to do our all to get Sonar back his land legs!
With a determined nod, K-9 sent a message and they ran off.
HOK...
Ash was looking over some homework, hoping to get them done to continue the search for Sonar.
She heard her NFLR beeped as looked...immediately get up and running out of the room.
.
Guardians: They found Sonar?!
RZ: *nods* Affirmative..but i recall they said to 'brace yourself'.
Alto: What could possible be shocking for us to brace ourselves-*portal opens...stunned*for.
..All were in stunned shock seeing K-9 and Peg-Leg, holding Sonar in his arms as his fins flicked.
Peg-Leg: So uh...we have a slight problem.
...THUMP!
Fang had fainted as the rest starred.
Troy:..OKAY, can see why you warned us.
Ash: This just raises more questions on you guys.
