So far, Kaito feels confident about tonight's heist, as he scrolls through the Internet with no other topic than Kaitou KID's astonishing appearance tonight at Tokyo Tower, threatening to steal the center of attention in the auction put together in there, a mirror with a gem attached to it.

The gem was called "The Eye Of Death". Apparently, the first owner of the mirror with the gem had seen a vision of his own death in the mirror, which was the same way he had ended up dying. The same happened to every carrier of the mirror, and it was thought to be cursed.

Now a gem that predicts death is also the opposite of Pandora, and Kaito wished he could just go back in time and unsend that heist notice. But he can't.

They want this gem. Kaito has to stop them.

Kaito still remembers those men in black in the back of an alleyway discussing how to steal this gem, more like talking on the phone with someone, whom Kaito knew more than the back of his hand by now.

He lets out a sigh. He knows they'll make an appearance tonight, which adds a lot of complications to his job, but worrying about it now won't do him any good, and he doesn't want either Aoko or the British prick to notice anything.

Never forget your poker face.

He continued to scroll through the news and articles anyway, hoping to get his head into the game and also refresh himself for a long day to come.

He let a stupid grin cover his face at the words of the fans in the comment section. One fan girl commented down the information of the targeted gem, "I wish he would steal me instead!" and next all hearts and blushing kamojis.

It was all fun reading those comments until he got smacked on the head from behind.

"What the hell, Ahoko?!" He didn't even need to turn around to know Aoko was the one who smacked him, but he turned around for the sake of knowing Aoko's current weapon.

And she was right there, a broom in one fisted hand (what happened to the mop?) and her face red from clear frustration with literal fire in her eyes as if she wished to burn Kaito with her glare, looking like a very exact copy of her own father.

"Bakaito… keeps supporting this idiotic, no good thief… HE'S JUST AN ATTENTION SEEKING THIEF WHO DOES NOTHING BUT MAKE FUN OF THE POLICE! HEARING ANYTHING ABOUT HIM MAKES AOKO'S BLOOD BOIL! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" She looked like she was ready to eat him alive right now.

Instead of feeling threatened, which he should be, he smirked at her with mischief and half-slit eyelids "I keep hanging around with idiots like you, that's what's wrong with me."

And that seemed like the last straw before Aoko took off and started chasing him all over the classroom with the broom in hand, Kaito dodging all over the place as he avoided Aoko's weapon and her menacing attempts for his head. He can predict her perfectly by now, he can even avoid the thing without moving from his spot.

She aimed for his legs when he was rooted in the same spot for too long. He avoided that with a backflip, wanting to end by landing on a classmate's desk. Said classmate decided to be a clown and pushed the desk away while Kaito was in mid-air. Being in the middle of the classroom with nothing else remotely close, he landed hard on the floor.

"Seems like it's my win... Bakaito…"

He feels his neck hair stand on end. With the devil towering over him, he had no choice but to accept his fate, coming in the form of a good beating.

Class was never this tense, even the teacher couldn't keep a straight face as the malicious glare Kaito was sending to a playfully smiling Aoko seemed to radiate a dark aura throughout the whole classroom Kaito was plotting for revenge, that was for sure.

Said revenge was directed at the classmate who had pushed away the desk from under him, putting living spiders in his and Aoko's school desks.

And oh boy, he had never heard a screech that loud before.

Feeling satisfied with a revenge well-plotted, Kaito went back to scrolling through his phone after the class was dismissed.

"You're still scrolling through all the KID crap…" Aoko, facepalmed, approached his desk after getting rid of the spiders, "But don't you think spiders are a bit cliché?"

He looked at her blankly for a moment before a creepy grin spread across his face, which had all her alarms ringing in her head, "Oh, I didn't realize you liked my pranks creative How about-"

"NOT NECESSARY!!" Aoko and Keiko, who had just joined the conversation, cut him off instantly. He snickered at them in response.

Keiko then turned to Aoko, "But I think KID is doing us good by stealing that mirror. I heard a story about a small child who had looked at that mirror back in the late '90s and seen himself bitten by a stray dog until he died. Two weeks later, he died just like that!" Aoko paled as her friend continued with her story, "It was thought to be cursed after that child's death. People before that thought it could only predict death, not cause it."

Kaito didn't like the sound of that as much as Aoko.

Aoko puffed her cheeks in annoyance at her friend's argument, "But it's still considered a crime to steal it, no matter the circumstances!" Then her face lit up, "But maybe if the mirror killed him, then Aoko would be okay with KID trying to steal it!" Kaito almost fell out of his chair while Keiko sweat-dropped at her friend's nature.

"But if he were to die, then how would we put him in jail?" Aoko turned to the newcomer, who was not looking her way but rather at Kaito, "Right, KID-san?"

Aoko looked at him with a puzzle for a second, "Hakuba-kun?" That puzzlement turned into an annoyance, "Hakuba-kun, Kaito isn't KID, Aoko told you this many times, right?"

Keiko stood with Aoko at that, "It was kind of hilarious when you first accused him of KID, but it's been annoying recently."

"Look, Hakuba! Even the girls are better at seeing that!" He taunted the prick with a lot of mockery. The detective looked like he wanted to burn him alive on the spot, but merely smirked at him.

This prick is more annoying than usual.

But then Aoko shifted the conversation, "Then, are you going to tonight's heist Hakuba-kun?". He only gave her an apologetic smile, "Unfortunately not. There's another place I need to go."

"That's unusual, you usually cancel your plans on KID's heist nights, did something happen?" Aoko asked, and Kaito had to be truthful with himself about being as curious as her.

"It's just a distant relative's funeral, but since the whole family is going, including my father, I'm expected to also tag along." He said that as if it weighed nothing. "I'll leave KID for Nakamori-keibu to worry about, and would you please send my greetings to him?"

"Of course." Aoko didn't seem to know what to say, neither did Kaito, and it seemed Keiko had dropped out of the conversation from the tension. Hakuba's phone chose to ring at that moment and he excused himself.

"That was... weird," Kaito had to say, and Aoko merely nodded.

"I personally don't know what's weirder today, that KID is targeting a cursed gem or that he's messing with the CA group." Akako said as she approached Aoko and Kaito's desk with grace that would put runner-up models to shame, flickering her hair over her shoulder. Aoko looked at her with pinched eyebrows, "Yeah, I heard unsavory rumours about them, but I'm not sure I want to believe that they work for the black market… yet. Wait! Akako-chan, are you worried about KID?"

She only shrugged with no verbal answer, before leaning down and whispering something in Kaito's ear, "If I were you, I would prefer to babysit my bed for the rest of the day rather than messing around with that mirror."

"What's with all these accusations today?! I don't know how many times I have to say that-" He was cut off by Akako. Her face had taken on a serious edge that unsettled him for some reason. "Tonight, you will meet death, in one form or another. One will take you away, the other will keep you away." And just like that, she turned around.

"Everyone! There's less than 15 minutes until Kaito KID's heist time! Is there anything out of place?! Nakamori's voice burst through the handheld transceiver held in his clenched hands with otherwise unnecessary feistiness and energy, the device would have screamed for help if it could.

"There's nothing out of place! All officers are in position, visitors have been cleared out of the exhibit building from a long time ago." The reply came surprisingly fast, and Nakamori recognised the voice of the assistant inspector who was assigned to help him by the superintendent.

Nakamori looked around the room with the target in pride, this time will be different, he is so sure of that.

The display case with the targeted mirror is in a windowless room, only one door as an exit, elevators turned off, stairs and doors guarded with only two officers each, electric backup generator working perfectly, the display case locked with a time-changing password, sleeping gas mask at ready.

And no one, absolutely no one can enter-

"Otosan!!" Or he had thought so.

Nakamori facepalmed and shook his head before turning to the source of the sound, trying not to show the annoyance in his voice, "What are you doing here, Aoko?"

The instant she pouted at him, he knew she actually didn't want to come "Geez, even though I went through the trouble of bringing your necktie. Be at least thankful I brought it instead of having you deal with the embarrassment of having it forgotten" She was already embarrassing him.

He let out a sigh, before taking the tie from her and letting her help him put it properly on his neck, his men were looking at him with smiles and some were trying to ignore it, after she was done he felt a tap on his shoulder from behind, "You have a really beautiful daughter, inspector, you're so lucky to have her."

He turned around to face the newcomer. It was the owner of the exhibit and the jewel, who also owned the CA group, Murasaki Hajimi. He was a tall, slender man in his late forties, with a French mustache and a bald head. There was a birthmark on his right cheek that almost looked like a reflection of Japan, with a mole right next to it.

A nice guy who loved charity work and has a mind-blowing income and a relatively calm life, no one would suspect he could be involved in black market deals with such positive thinking and strong sense of justice.

"Thank you, Murasaki-san, this is my daughter Aoko. I heard you also have a daughter, right?" He asked the man. He knew Murasaki wasn't even married, and he never adopted children before, either. He was trying to know if this was KID or not. The man arched an eyebrow and looked at him with something akin to concern, his smile wiped off his face. "Nakamori-keibu, I thought you knew that I had never had kids before. Are you okay? You have been working all day haven't you?"

Nakamori shook his head before the misunderstanding continued, "It's not that, KID wouldn't have looked into your history that far so he wouldn't have known that you don't have children, a trick I did once before and had worked. just fine." The man seemed to visibly relax and his smile turned back to his face, "Well it's good to know that your head is fully in the game, inspector. The media really should stop speaking about you that badly."

Nakamori merely scratched his cheek, not really knowing how to reply to that. Turning around, he saw Aoko looking at the display case with the gem. He couldn't see her face because she was standing with her back turned, but he knew she didn't like the stories about the mirror. He could picture her half-scared, half-concerned face already.

Murasaki was quicker at remarking about the mirror, "Don't worry, Aoko-san, the mirror won't show a vision unless your image reflects off it, I put it in that position so that it doesn't reflect anyone. and cause any unwanted chaos." That seemed to ease her a little as she turned around and gave him a small bow of thanks before distancing herself from. the case with a few awkward steps.

Aoko then approached him again, "Do you know when you will be done? I want to know when to make dinner..." He sighed, "I don't know, Aoko, but it'll be late so you eat dinner with Kaito-kun and don't wait for me. It would be nice if you leave me something to heat up when I get home."

She gave him a smile, nodding, "Take care of yourself, okay?"

"Don't worry! I, Nakamori Ginzo, swear to catch Kaito KID tonight and have him behind bars!" He then laughed out loud to convey his point, a dry chuckle escaped Aoko.

"Then, Aoko will go home now, good luck with KID." Then she left the display room and went off. He checked his watch before yelling at the top of his lungs, "Only seven minutes left! EVERYONE IN YOUR POSITIONS!!"

Little did Nakamori know that Aoko had turned around from the exit to the toilet stalls, where her face had been discarded in the trash bin before her doppelganger had crawled into the vents from there.

"Only three minutes left. Didn't know these vents were this small, thank god I'm not in uniform, it would have gotten all black." Kaito whispered to no one in particular as he looked through the vent opening at the display case, this was easier than he had thought, excluding the vents part.

They had done a good job searching the vents for traps, but they didn't put any surveillance in here, which gave him the perfect opportunity to sneak in unnoticed. The police are completely falling into his plan.

And his Aoko disguise was perfect, thanks to which he got a look at the display case from up close and had been able to steal the inspector's phone. getting the password which won't change until about five minutes from now.

Everything was looking so good so far which was supposed to ease Kaito, but stealing the mirror was something. dealing with Snake and his men after that is another. He didn't know how Snake was going to approach him this time around, this is the top of a tower surrounded by police after all, with no escape other than the hand glider, which Snake doesn't have one of.

And now, Kaito started regretting leaving the bulletproof vest at the Blue Parrot bar. He didn't tell Ji-chan about those men after all, since he would have felt suspicious if Kaito took the vest and would confront him about it. And he doesn't need him to be overprotective right now.

Ready with the flash bombs in one hand, Kaito let a victorious smirk cover his face as he heard Nakamori-keibu counting down, putting up the KID façade. Worrying about Snake will only mess with his thinking and might make him. miss out on something. But now...

"4…! 3…! 2…! 1…!"

It's show time!

Kaito... Finally, I'll just say this to you once more. Remember it well. When you come in contact with the audience, it's the scene of a duel. Never be arrogant. Never underestimate them. See into their minds. Give undivided concentration to your fingertips. Use every trick you know. On top of that, never lose your smile or dignity. And at all times... Remember your poker face.

Geez… They never learn, always falling into the dummy trap. Kaito thought with a dry, smile as he watched the police speed away after the fake KID he sent flying out through the window.

Turning around, he went to the emergency exit and closed the door behind him. All the police had left the tower, it wouldn't take long before Snake and his men made it here. Kaito actually didn't want to crash into them, but that would be asking too much.

For now, he wants to remove the gem from the mirror, it will be easier to inspect it that way after all.

Taking out the mirror from inside his jacket, he looked intently at the gem. It was a big sky blue Zaphire. Zaphires are different from normal gems as they don't shine, which makes people sometimes think they are fake and cause confusion. This circular gem wasn't as beautiful as a sapphire, but with the mirror, it looked like a grand piece of treasure that anyone would want to lay their hands upon.

Suddenly, the reflection in the mirror shifted, and Kaito let out a gasp of horror.

He saw himself, ready to fly away with the gem in hand, not noticing Snake behind him, gun at the ready. Snake then shot him down with all his bullets, laughing menacingly as Kaito instantly dropped dead. Kaito turned his eyes away before he could see more of it, choosing to check his surroundings for any signs of movement. He was alone, good.

After the shock passed, Kaito took another look at the mirror, only to see his frazzled expression turning into a dry glare. He scoffed, "Okay, that was scary You took years of my life with that stupid jumpscare, you stupid gem!"

Pocketing the mirror for now, Kaito took out his card gun and proceeded to get to the rooftop. He knew he was being paranoid, but better safe than sorry.

Poker face… Poker face...!

That seemed to be the only thought keeping him together, as he continued to chant it over and over in his head, which only heightened his senses and increased the tension in his body and mind.

Kaito arrived at the rooftop, looking around carefully, scanning the dark surroundings for any signs of Snake and his men. After confirming that he was indeed alone, Kaito raised his card gun before making it disappear with a swift move.

Approaching the middle of the rooftop, Kaito again took out the gem. The clouds covered the moon, blocking its light from passing and illuminating the place. Making it harder for Kaito to see his surroundings and the mirror in his clenched hand.

Kaito knows that he might get attacked at any moment now, but if he couldn't even see the mirror he was holding then Snake wouldn't be able to see him clearly either.

But Kaito doesn't want to risk flying away now. He doesn't know if Snake was waiting for him to do just that so he would shoot the glider instead. He doesn't want to believe what the mirror has shown him. It was just his paranoia showing him warnings about what could happen if he doesn't watch his back. Yeah, that must be it. Right…?

Did he really have to announce a heist notice to steal this one? He could have gone in there with no warning whatsoever and taken it, but no! His arrogance and pride hadn't allowed him to, and just like the adrenaline junkie he was, he just had to challenge them face to face like this.

Kaito exhaled a long sigh, releasing the tension from his body, feeling a headache already coming to eat at his head and anxiety getting the better of his nerves.

The sky started clearing, giving Kaito the view he missed and an opportunity to relax. The rooftop was now clear to the eye.

Looking down at the mirror, Kaito's heart leapt to his throat.

It wasn't a vision this time; Snake was right behind him, with the gun aimed at his head, signature smirk in place, along with that murderous intent in his eyes.

Kaito moved away just in time for the bullet to miss him by barely an inch, but it hit the mirror handle instead, making it slip out of his grip and roll into a tight space. Kaito wasn't even given the chance to make a grab for it as Snake started shooting a rain of bullets that had Kaito instantly hiding away.

The hand that had been holding the mirror was bleeding, and he blamed the adrenaline for not noticing. He was forced to rely on his left hand to shoot with the card gun, but the rest of Snake's men had made it, and the bullets increased. Kaito unfortunately had to hide behind a pillar he had no idea why it was there.

Biting back a pained gasp as a bullet hit his left arm, Kaito's gun slipped from his grip, giving an opening for Snake to shoot it away from him.

The shooting had stopped.

"Now, how about you come out, Kuroba Toichi?!" He heard footsteps approaching him as Snake continued talking, "I don't know how you knew we were targeting this gem, but now I don't care, all I care about is killing you..."

Kaito heard the sound of Snake loading his gun with more bullets. He has to think of something, now!

He unconsciously turned his head to where he saw the mirror fall, only to see the mirror without the gem. Kaito could swear that he had seen the mirror shapeshift into a person before it disappeared, but he wasn't sure where they had gone.

"Come out here, KID! With both your hands raised!"

Come on, think! There must be something...!

He raised his voice enough for Snake to hear him. "And if I refused?" he asked, and all he got was a chuckle before he heard the sound of an explosion. He turned to the source of the sound and saw red in front of him for a second or two.

A hospital room... The bastard...!

"Then more of those will explode..." So he was taking his No One Dies rule to his advantage.

This situation is really hopeless then...

Slowly stepping out of his hiding spot with his hands raised, Kaito gave Snake a cold glare that had the assassin snickering. "What now, KID? There's no way out of a situation like this, and you seem to be running out of tricks yourself."

Kaito clenched his teeth, ignoring the pain in his upper left arm. Snake was holding his phone in one hand, while aiming a gun at him with his left hand. Snake's men, four of them, were also aiming guns at him.

Then movement caught his eye, and Kaito saw someone behind those men, holding a huge pipe while sneaking up on them, the pipe was raised before it swung down hard on two of those men, knocking them both out and earning Snake's attention.

The person then hurriedly kicked the third man in the gut hard, took his gun and aimed at the phone in Snake's hand, shattering it completely.

The person was a boy of his age, with sharp azure eyes and a light complexion. The boy looked like Kaito's carbon copy, except for his neater hair, save for a cowlick that stuck out weirdly and a distinctive tuft in the back. Kaito then realised with a silent gasp that the boy was the same figure the gem had shapeshifted into.

But now with Snake's attention completely focused on the teen, Kaito was able to make a grab for his card gun and shoot the guns out of Snake's and the last man's hands.

Snake was seized with rage as he glared at Kaito, "You little...!" before he turned with a knife in hand and rushed towards the newcomer.

"Oh no, you don't!" Kaito quickly shot the knife out of Snake's hand, before making a leap and landing next to the teen, his trademark smirk in place.

Then there were sirens, going back to the tower. Seems like the inspector finally realised it was a dummy.

Snake made a displeased sound before retreating with his men, forgetting about the gem completely.

Kaito then turned to the boy who had saved him, letting the confusion settle back in. The teen looked at him with amusement evident on his face, "Be thankful that thanks to me you still have years of life, stupid thief."

Ah, great…

Kaito silently took the teen with him and flew away before the police could arrive on the rooftop.
