Side Chapter: Mother's Day! Hooray!

(Earth – Diaz Residents, Star's Room)

Star was sleeping peacefully in her bed as the sun had yet to fully rise, until a delicate looking hand placed itself on her shoulder and gentle shook her to try and wake her.

"Star? Star, wake up."

"Hmm?" Star groaned softly as her eyes slowly opened to see Rita's reddish pink eyes looking right back at her.

"Good morning to you Star." Rita said as continued to look back at the princess while smiling.

"Uh, good morning, Rita." Star greeted back awkwardly. "Um, Rita? Can I ask why you're in my bedroom at… 7:15am right now?" she asked while looking at the digital clock that Marco had given to her, resting on the nightstand by her bed.

"Well today happens to be Mother's Day Star." Rita answered.

"Mother's Day?" Star repeated, confused. "Sorry Rita, still not completely in the know on some earth stuff here."

"That's alright, Star. This is something I doubt most people back on Mewni would know about." Rita said. "Well, Mother's Day is that one special day of the year where we show appreciation to our mothers." She explained.

"Oh, so it's like Stump Day, except instead of celebrating a tree stump we celebrate what our moms do for us." Star asked.

"That's right." Rita said. "Currently, Marco and his dad are making a breakfast in bed for Ms. Diaz. I did the very same thing for my own mother before coming over. Afterwards, we're going to take all the mothers out for something special we have planned today." She explained.

"Wait, who's 'we'?" Star asked.

"Oh, Marco, Hibiki, and I. the three of us do this ever Mother's Day were one of us plans out something special for our mothers." Rita explained. "This time it's Marco's turn and he said he wanted to include you too, if you want?"

"Of course, I want join!" Star said excitedly as she hopped out of bed and bolted to her dresser to get changed. "Ms. Diaz has been so cool and nice to me since I got here to earth. She also saved me from going to Saint O's, and even said that I could go dimension hopping … when you guys go out for training, ha-ha." She says as she had just finished putting on her sky-blue dress, striped- blue leggings, and fuzzy light blue leg warmers. She was now putting on her light blue sneakers.

"Great. I have to help Marco bring the breakfast to his mother, you can help Mr. Diaz and Hibiki get everything else ready in the living room." Rita said as she left to help Marco.

"Got it!" Star said as she bolted out of her room for the living room.

Meanwhile, Angelica Diaz had begun to awaken from her peaceful sleep in her bedroom that she shared with her husband. As she sat up and stretched a little, she noticed that Rafael wasn't in the bed with her.

"Well, that's… weird. Rafael is normally the last one to get up in the mornings" Angie says. As she was wondering where her husband had gotten too, she hears a knock at the bedroom door which soon opened to revel her son and his cousin Rita in what looked to be a maid outfit walking in with two trays of breakfast.

"Happy Mother's Day!" the two teens said as they walked over.

"Oh my, Mijo, Sobrina, thank you both so much." Angie says happily as she hugs both her son and niece joyfully. "I'm guessing that explains why Rafael isn't still in bed right now?"

"Pretty much, he's helping Hibiki with getting everything setup for the day." Rita said.

"Oh really?" Angie said. "So, which of you three are planning out everything this Mother's Day?" she asked.

"Sigh, this guy right here, Madre." Marco said pointing to himself. "And before you ask, all I'm going to tell you is that a couple other mothers will be joining you in the festivities I have planned for the day. As well as a special guest I managed to convince."

"Let me guess, I can't know that either until they arrive, right?" Angie said with a knowing smile.

"Apologies senora, you'll just have to wait." Marco said grinning.

"Okay, okay, smart guy. Just don't make your momma wait too long." She said as she began to enjoy her Mother's Day breakfast.

Meanwhile downstairs, Rafael, Hibiki, and Star were just about finishing decorating the living room.

"Well, that should just about do it." Rafael said as he and the kids looked at the finished work.

"A truly fine job, Mr. Diaz." Hibiki said.

"Yeah, this place looks so amazing Mr. Diaz! You really know your stuff when it comes to party decorating." Star added. "Are celebrations for mothers on earth always like this?"

"Only for the mothers on this family Star." Hibiki answered.

"Also, Marco's idea for this year's Mother's Day calls for it, due to the extra guests we'll be having." Rafael added.

"Wait, guests?" Star asked, before the doorbell rang.

"Oh, she's here." Hibiki said as he went to answer the door.

"Huh? Who's here?" Star asked.

When Hibiki opened the door, a woman with silver/whitish hair, fair skin, and wearing a light purple kimono with a dark violet shawl over that, black socks and straw Japanese sandals was standing there.

Star noticed that the woman's eyes were the same color as Hibiki's.

"Hold on, Hibiki is that your?"

"Star, allow me to introduce you to my mother, Kanade Kohaku." Hibiki says as he walks his mother into the house. "Mom, this Princes Star Butterfly."

"Very nice to meet you dear." Kanade said as she slightly bowed her head to Star. "Hibiki has told me quite a bit about you."

"Oh really? I hope it was good stuff." Star said as she eyed Hibiki.

"Oh, not to worry, my little sparrowhawk here has only ever said nice things about his times with you." Kanade says as she affectionally hugs her Hibiki, much to her boy's embarrassment and Star's stifled giggling.

"Is that who I think it is?"

Everyone looks and sees Angie coming down the stairs wearing a short green, teal leggings and her brown sandals. Marco was close behind her, while Rita followed while carrying the two trays.

"Hey Kanade!" Angie says happily as she races over and hugs her friend, who reciprocates.

"Hello to you too, Angie." Kanade says. "I see you're very energetic on this wonderful Mother's Day."

"Of course, since my little swordsman here has the day planned out for us." Angie said as she started hugging Marco.

"Mom, for the love of – "Marco started to say before the doorbell rang again.

"I'll get it!" Star said as she walked over and opened the door to see who it is.

Standing on the other side was yet another woman. This one had medium length light hair that covers her left eye which was darkish red color. She also had hair clips towards the right side of her hair and a flower-shaped ribbon on the same side. Her outfit was a Japanese style Gothic heavy dress-like outfit with a matching cap with a skull accessory, dark pink jacket, and black leather boots.

"Um, can I help you ma'am?" Star asked the young woman.

The person in question just looked at Star for a couple of seconds before responding.

"That depends, are you willing to let me into the house, despite not neither of us knowing each other?" she asked while a cynical smile appeared on her face, which began to make Star question if she should let this person in or not.

Before Star could say anything, Rita came out of the kitchen and said something that made the princess's jaw drop.

"Mother, could you please stop intimidating Star? It's not funny."

"Wait, What!?" Star shouted as she looked back and forth between Rita and the woman whom she just called her mother. "Rita, this is your mom!? She looks so young!"

"That's good living will do to you princess. The names Elysia." The woman known as Elysia as she got a good look at Star. "So, you're the little princess that's staying with Angie, huh?"

"That she is." Angie said coming up next to Star. "Good to see you, Ellie. How's everything?"

"As best as it can be. Rita tells me your boy's the one in charge of this year's Mother's Day bash." Elysia says. "Think he's planned out something big for today?"

"Oh. I know he does. Seeing as he won't even tell me the full details."

"Really now?" Elysia said looking over at Marco. "Really hop it lives up to the hype?"

"Just don't expect to be going buggy jumping into a volcano." Marco said as he rolled his eyes at Elysia's smirk.

After Elysia and Angie joined Kanade on the couch to catch up with each other on things, Marco stood in front of everyone and asked for their attention.

"Okay everyone! First I'd like to say a happy Mother's Day to all the moms that have gathered here today for what's now known as the yearly Diaz Mother's Day blow out." Marco announced. "Now I said that all the mothers have gathered here. But in fact, there is still one more guest that has yet to arrive."

"Huh?" everyone thought in confusion until a knock came from the front door.

"And speak of the devil there they are now." Marco said as he went to open the door.

"Rita? Hibiki? Did either of you guys know about this other guest that Marco is talking about?" Star asked.

"No."

"I had no knowledge about this either."

As the three teens pondered, so too did the mothers.

"So young Marco also invited someone special for this mother's day's event? How fun. I wonder who it could be?" Kanade wondered aloud.

"Can't say, Marco didn't even let me in on this little surprise." Angie said. "Now my only question is who did he invite?"

"Ha." Elysia laughed. "Think I've got a pretty good idea of who it could be."

"Really?" Kanade asked.

"The fact that the kid kept secret from Angie here, means that it's someone who she wouldn't expect to come."

"Someone I wouldn't expect, huh?" Angie thought before she and the others noticed Marco coming back with the special guest… who immediately had some people's jaws on the ground.

"Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce our guest for this event… Queen Moon Butterfly!" Marco announced as he stepped to the side so Queen Moon could be seen in full.

Moon was wearing a purple version of the royal attire that she normally wears back on Mewni. However, what really caught everyone's attention (especially Angie and Star's) was the fact that Moon was not only not wearing her crown, but she was also wearing her hair down which gave her a look very similar to Star's.

"Good day everyone, it's very nice to – "before Moon could even finish, Angie had shot up from the couch and was already bear hugging her to death along with her son.

"Mom! Mom! For the love of corn husk!" Marco shouted in desperation.

"Angie for the love of all that is good in every dimension! Can you please let up before you end up squeezing the life out of both me and your son!" Moon pleaded.

"Sorry! Sorry!" Angie said as she quickly let go of both her son and her former charge. "It's just, I never thought I'd see you here. At my house. On earth. Meeting my family. And on Mother's Day!"

"Yes well, you can thank your son here for that." Moon said. "He called me a couple of days ago and informed me of this day in which people here so appreciation and thanks to their mothers. It sounded interesting, so he invited me to join in this event he had planned."

"So, this was the surprise you had planned, huh?" Angie said looking knowingly at her little sneak of a son."

"Guilty as charged." Marco said jokingly. "I mean you are friends with a royal mother, so it made sense to invite her too."

"And I'm so very happy that you did!" Angie said, happily hugging her son again.

"Angie please, I don't want to have to see your son turning blue again." Moon said in mock exasperation.

Moon then began greeting everyone, before noticing Star was trying to make herself not stand out as much.

"Star dear, is something wrong?" she asked.

"Oh, no, no, nope!" Star said in a hurried voice. "It's just that… I've rarely seen you with your hair down is all."

"Well, given how I need to be presentable when speaking with certain other royals and people of importance, I suppose it is a little… odd to see me like this." Moon said.

"That and it makes you look more the princess's older sister." Elysia said, catching the two guard with that statement.

"Hey, now that you mention it. Yeah Moon, you and Star could totally pass as sisters if you wore your hair down more often." Angie said.

"Well, it certainly wouldn't be too hard," Kanade said, "I mean given that Queen Moon still seems to look as young as I believe… 25 or 26?" she said, which immediately had Moon blushing in embarrassment.

"Whoa! Mom! I can't remember the last time I saw you blush that hard, hahaha!" Star said in between her laughing fit.

"Your mom's never been embarrassed before?" Hibiki asked.

"Oh no, she has. Just never to the point that she blushes." Star said.

"That's due to me needing to stay calm and composed, Star." Moon said. "Something that… hopefully… you'll learn for yourself."

"Sorry Moon, but I'm going to have to call hogwash on that statement you just made." Angie said. "I'd need about 10 pairs of hands to count how many times you did an impression of a tomato for everyone event you got embarrassed." She said with a knowing smile which got Moon worried.

"Angie, I'm sure I have no idea what your talking – "

"Marco sweety?"

"Yeah?"

"Does the plan you have for today requires us to be anywhere soon?"

"No, not really."

"I see."

Angie then turned to her husband and winked at him, which his que to head into the kitchen and prep some light snacks and drinks. She then proceeded to move to the bookcase where she took out a book labeled 'Book of memories with my favorite princess'.

"Oh no." Moon said once she saw the book.

"Oh yes Moon. Everyone take a seat, you're in for a pre-Mother's Day show called, 'The times Moon Butterfly was known as The Red-Faced Moon'." Angie announced.

"Yes!" Star shouted as she instantly sat on the couch next to Angie and the other moms, while Hibiki and Rita kneeled/sat in front.

Moon could do nothing except sigh in defeat as Marco gave her a sympathetic pat on the back and guided her to the couch.

Today was going to be a very, very entertaining Mother's Day.

A/N: I know that it's waaaaay late for this, but I still wanted to get this out. To all the mothers out there, Happy Mother's Day.
