Chapter 3: When everything finally unravels.

The sun lightly illuminates the room through the curtains. Ada groaned as sleep slowly left her. She turned around but felt a sharp pain in her right thigh, reminding her of the events of the day before. The woman slowly sat up in bed and grabbed her cell phone, it was almost eleven o'clock. She groaned in frustration, she shouldn't have slept so much... Leon's presence had allowed her to relax too much. She stood up, careful to put her weight on her left leg, the woman got dressed and prepared for the day ahead. Once ready, she limped out of the room. She found Leon sitting on the couch, eating toast while looking at his phone. The man turned towards her when he heard the door.

-Hello Ada. How is your leg ? He stood up and approached her. The woman sat down at the table and stretched her leg out in front of her.

-Also of course it could be without painkillers. She almost moaned as she said these words.

-If you are hungry, there are pancakes that I ordered at reception. I also went to the pharmacy and got you some painkillers because I saw that you didn't have much last night. She looked at him slightly surprised, raising an eyebrow. You saved my life twice, that's the minimum.

-Thank you for your concern, but I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself, handsome. He sighed as he sat down across from her.

-I know, but helping you doesn't mean that you aren't capable of doing it... You slept a lot, you must have been exhausted, eat, take these pills and then we'll have a discussion. She looked at him, he was no longer the shy beginner she had met in Racoon. He was a confident man now, who knows what he wants.

-You weren't followed I hope? When you went out. I didn't go to all this trouble to get noticed.

-Oh Ada… I thought you knew better about me. Don't worry, I was careful. The man got up and walked to the window, looking out.

Once Ada had eaten, taken her medicine and redone her bandage she went to sit in the seat opposite Léon.

-Ask me your questions. The woman crossed her legs, her torso straight and looking the man straight in the eyes.

-Why were you following us yesterday morning? The question was direct but he had to understand what was happening.

-I had information leading me to believe that you were going to be attacked this very morning.

-How and why did you come? He was intriguedhuh, she had come to protect him? What did she have to gain?

-You don't need to know how. It's my darling job, that's all. I told myself I had to return the favor, and then I was in the area so I wanted to warn you. But I arrived a little too late, so I decided to catch up with you. At that moment I noticed this suspicious car, I have some experience to notice these details. That wasn't entirely the truth. She wasn't around at all. The woman had come especially for the man.

-Why would my life be threatened? They came back a second time, they're not amateurs, why so suddenly... Leon sighed inwardly. He had already called Hunnigan this morning and explained that he was in hiding. He was advised to stay in hiding for another day before coming to the DSO office and trying to figure out what was going on. She was going to investigate in her corner.

-Unfortunately I don't know why.. I couldn't find this information. Leon swore he could see regret or sadness in her eyes at that moment. I tried to find it, but nothing... nothing makes sense... This USB stick contains information that should help me understand what's going on, it'll just take me some time to read it all. I stole this information shortly before the first attack. I don't know anything else except that I came across information talking about an attack in Washington against Léon S Kennedy, sponsored by S, unfortunately I really don't know more. I was completely unaware of the second attack, my presence was just a coincidence. She stood up from her chair and whistled slightly as she started walking.

-Are you on a mission here Ada?

-No... I'm here on my own time, I don't currently have an employer, and with two mandates under my belt I prefer to stay a little in the shadows at the moment. She grabbed her laptop.

Leon didn't know what to think. It was not the same woman he had in front of him. It wasn't Ada he saw when she was on a mission, there he saw a woman who looked more human. Was it just the professional Ada mask he had seen all this time? Could this be the real woman he had always known before him?

-Are you planning to stare at me for a long time? Leon was taken out of his thoughts.

-Sorry, I was thinking.

-I know you must have a lot to think about.

-What proof do I have that you're not lying to me again? The woman sighed.

-Léon... I told you that I'm not on a mission... I have nothing to gain from it... I don't want to break the little trust you have in me. The woman added mentally. Look, the situation is complicated enough as it is, it's up to you to decide whether you trust my information or not, but I don't care about wasting my time here lying to you. My time is precious.

Léon looked into her eyes. He had no reason to question what she said, but it bothered him that she was there right at the time of the two attacks. But she had no reason to come and fight with him and even be hurt for him. This woman always had a tendency to use him but also to help him, usually she gained something but today, why was she there. She didn't look like she wanted to use him.

-Leon? He looked up at her. Tin trust me? He seemed to think for a few moments. He thought back to the woman he had seen facing Simmons, the woman who had protected him and who had been beaten alongside him without having any employer, only the desire to kill Simmons. Even though it was a selfish desire, she had been on their side, even going so far as to exonerate them.

-Yes, but I hope you won't do anything to break that trust. She simply nodded and continued to work on her computer, he noticed that the famous USB stick was inserted inside.

-I'm going to need some time, it's up to you to stay here or go to the DSO or I don't know where, just try not to get killed on the way, I won't be there to protect your beautiful eyes.

-Ahah, my eyes are too beautiful for me to risk losing them. The man replied with humor. I plan to stay here today, we will try to understand the situation together. A little help won't hurt you, I think. Then I can't leave an injured woman alone. He had a big smile on his face that contrasted with the seriousness of the situation. Ada didn't answer him and patted the spot next to her on the couch. The man went to sit next to her and looked at her screen. These were reports written in Russian it seems.

-It says that a man named S hired a fairly expensive private Russian militia with a good success rate to kill a target named Leon S Kennedy working at the DSO.

-Do you read Russian? he asked, slightly surprised.

-I read more languages than you could imagine. It's a necessary skill in my job.

-One more thing to add to your long CV I suppose. The man said to him with a smile.

-There is a history of you and your skills. She frowned. That was sent a month ago and it says that they must wait for a specific date for the attack, because certain conditions must be in place, which will be specified during the oral interview. She sighed in frustration, she did not have access to what had been said in person between the two men. They have to kill you as slowly as possible while trying to draw as much attention to you as possible. After that she silently read many pages, Léon simply observed her, she seemed extremely concentrated. Suddenly she abruptly closed her computer.

–It all makes no sense, it's illogical, why want to kill you slowly and by attracting attention, that clearly means that you don't seem to be the target. But all the information contradicts each other. Whoever sponsored it had anticipated that someone would look in depth at what was going on, almost saying that these reports were created with the intention of being contradictory. This person is not a beginner. Far from there. You don't have to work in the usual way. Why would someone with so much influence be after you? She looked Léon in the eyes.

-I don't know. Maybe someone I've frustrated in the past? The man crossed his arms. There are a certain number of them, we'll say…

-I don't doubt it... Listen, I need time to understand the situation and with my injury I wouldn't be able to act immediately so you have two choices, either you stay hidden, or you go about your life normally close to you defend.

-I'm already going to the DSO tomorrow. Today I'm going to stay here and we're going to try to understand together what's going on, you also need some rest. So we're just going to stay here today.

-You can't put this gentleman part away somewhere can you? She sighed with a soft smile. Okay, we're going to have a lot of work.

In the evening.

-Raaah no way to find out who this S is. Sosaid Léon, falling back into his chair. Ada was sitting at the kitchen table, still working on her computer, coffee in hand.

-Patience Léon, if it only took 24 hours for this kind of thing my work would have no meaning. Listen. I'll investigate in my area. I'll meet you next week at 8 p.m. at the Morris American Bar. The woman rose from her sitting position and grabbed her computer under her arm. She pulled a gun from her belt and threw it at Leon.

-Here, that will be enough to get you to the DSO. My motorbike is in the hotel basement, I changed the license plate, it is not traceable. There is a helmet in the living room cupboard and a jacket. It's a rental, remember to return it when you no longer need it. Go directly to the DSO, don't make any stops. I think this is the safest place for you. I can't guarantee there isn't a mole, but stay on your guard Leon and only trust people you know are trustworthy.

-Where do you plan to go Ada?

-It's not worth you knowing. The less you know, the better for you, if it came to knowing that you saw me you would have big problems Leon. She looked at him sadly. After all, I am guilty of the biggest bioterrorist attack the world has ever seen.

-Anything ! I know it wasn't you... maybe I don't know everything that happened. But I know it wasn't you, I don't know who this second person was who pretended to be you. But I'm sure you could clear yourself.

-Leon... you are too naive... The higher-ups need to find someone to blame. I was served to them on a golden platter. Someone who worked for Wesker is perfect, right? After all, Simmons worked for the upper echelons. It would be better not to make this information public. Why would they bother to understand that there could be mistaken identity, especially to exonerate a criminal. She looked at the ground, her eyes tinged with sadness. After all, I'm not an example of good faith either. I have made choices in my life that have not been the best. Then one or two international arrest warrants on my head, it's not so bad for my CV. She gave him a smile but he could see it was fake, not many people would have noticed. But it was different from all the smiles he had seen from this woman. I destroyed all evidence of Carla's existence. It is impossible for anyone to know that there were two Ada Wongs. It's better that way... What does it matter... We can't know that you were with me, okay Leon?

The man clenched his fists in frustration, this situation was unfair, Ada may have made mistakes but she was not a terrorist. He felt a hand on his shoulder.

-Go away, we can't stay here very long. I'll take the car, don't forget our meeting. She whispered in his ear. Then she left the room with a bag on her shoulder.

-There is… He looked at the key that the woman had just put in his hands. It must have been the key to the bike. He sighed heavily, of all the women in the world, why was he tobe in love with the woman more difficult to understand whether. She had it seduced from Racoon and the more time passed, the more this woman was in the domain ofillusory, impossible to find, impossible to to understand. He ran his hand through his bangs then grabbed the jacket and helmet.

He found easily motorcycle in the basement and headed towards the DSO office despite the late hour.
