Wulf, Zach, and Jason were all ready to try fighting Rena with their Digimon. For Digimon to battle each other, they must be transferred into the BattleSphere, an online virtual world that generates digital arenas for safe battle.
The three humans and three Digimon had all gathered around the machine in the middle of the room. Zach approached the machine's screen and began pressing some buttons underneath it.
"Ok, before we start, you're going to have to upload Rena into your digivice." Zach said, turning to Wulf next to him.
"Huh? That process? Do I have to?" He questioned.
"Well, it's a pretty crucial process," Zach responded, finishing setting things up as a popup appeared on the screen.
"It's all right, Wulf. I've told you before that I'm fine with it." Rena assured him.
"Jason will fight you first, so he should upload Kai and show you how it's done." Jason looked down at Kai and unclipped his digivice from his belt.
It was a device-colored blue that looked a little like Wulf's digivice. Many digivices were produced by many different companies, so Wulf figured this was a similar model perhaps made by the same company.
He pressed a button on the device as Kai closed his eyes and spread out his arms. The entire body of the Gaomon brightly gleamed as its form slowly started to break apart into various bits of data.
The data flew directly into the top part of Jason's digivice that was glowing. Eventually, Kai was completely gone from where he once stood. Wulf rubbed his eyes, shocked at what he had just seen.
"Woah, I can't believe you just did that!" He exclaimed.
"All right, now you try. I'll help you with it." Zach got right next to Wulf as the latter gripped his Digivice.
"Ready, Rena?" he asked with a nervous gulp.
"Yes, I am. Don't worry, Wulf." Rena said, stepping out to be in front of him.
"All right, so first you press this." Zach quickly showed Wulf what to do.
Wulf pressed one button and the top of his digivice glowed. Shutting her eyes, Rena's entire body started to glow like Kai's did. It then split into various small bits of data that flooded into the glowing spot on his digivice. She was completely gone from everyone's eyes, reminding Wulf of when she would turn invisible.
"Ok, so now what?" He asked.
Zach stepped over to the front of the screen and pointed to a slot under it. "Just plug your Digivice in there and we're almost done."
After initially putting it in the wrong way, Wulf finally plugged it in after hearing a firm click. He was then told to step in one of the holes in the side of the machine, which he promptly did. As he stood in it, he noticed a pair of goggles colored grey like the machine and connected to it by a thick metal cord.
"There are some goggles things, should I put them on?" Wulf peeked out of the hole to look at Zach.
"Yep, you don't have any goggles of your own yet, so those will work for now." He told him.
Wulf sighed, not knowing what would happen. He had never done anything in his life like this before, it was a shot in the dark for him. He grabbed the goggles and fitted them onto his head, covering his eyes with them.
What he saw through the goggles was nothing but a black void. It then turned into the logo of BattleSphere along with its current version listed right below it. Then, his view transitioned to a multicolored spinning portal, nausea nearly getting to him as he flew through it like a bird.
A blinding light filled the screen, almost as if a bomb had gone off. As the light receded, Wulf found himself staring at what looked like a winter wonderland. Snow and ice covered the hill-filled land as the eye could see, and snow slowly descended onto the ground.
Up in the sky, he saw various data flowing amongst a light blue backdrop, along with a bright glow in the center, like a sun of sorts. This entire place must've been the virtual arena generated by the machine, hosted inside the BattleSphere.
He realized that his head was turning in the arena without his neck moving. It then dawned on him that he wasn't seeing through his eyes in the arena, he was seeing through someone else's.
The head looked down at the ground, and the sight of two big thighs covered in gold fur with a distinct purple symbol on each quickly gave away whose eyes Wulf was seeing out of. It was Rena, of course, it was. This was the arena where she would fight her opponent.
Rena looked around, knowing Kai had spawned somewhere. However, her posture continued to remain relaxed, her arms hanging down to her hips and her shoulders loosened. Her fluffy tail slowly swayed side to side, brushing against the cold air.
Suddenly, she sensed something from behind her back. Kai had entered a spinning fit, twirling rapidly before swinging a punch towards Rena's face.
Despite her calm composure, Rena swiftly turned around and easily caught Kai's fist in the palm of her hand. With her other hand, she struck him hard with a Power Palm attack, sending him flying back. Wulf's eyes widened, not expecting Kai's sneak attack or Rena's quick response.
As he struck an ice wall and fell onto the snowy ground, Kai quickly got back up growling and showing his teeth. However, as he ran towards where he was struck, he saw that she wasn't there anymore.
She then suddenly appeared out of thin air in the sky, spreading her arms out and unleashing a Diamond Storm at Kai. However, thanks to his speed, he managed to dodge most of the shards launched at him.
A few did penetrate him and explode, however, causing him to tumble on the ground again. As his aching body tried to get up, Rena landed down and leaped at him, slamming her foot onto him with her Power Paw attack.
This was the end for Kai in this area, as the weight and strength from her foot crushing down on him caused his form to scatter into data fragments. Instead of remaining in the air like other Digimon whose data was scattered, the fragments flew up into the sky into the glowing center of the arena.
Wulf was stunned at what had just transpired. Rena had won so quickly; Kai didn't even stand a chance.
Just then, everything went black as the arena and Rena disappeared. Wulf frantically took off the goggles, not knowing what had exactly happened. He stepped out of the hole and went to Zach, Jason, and Victor looking at the screen.
"What happened?! Everything vanished! Where's Rena, is she okay?" He demanded to know, sounding genuinely panicked a bit.
"Woah, calm down. Everything's all right, I just deactivated the arena since the match is over. Don't worry, Rena is fine." Zach reassured him, Jason was surprised at Wulf's sudden tone.
"Ok, that's good." He sighed with relief.
Zach rubbed his hands. "All right, now it's Victor's time to fight her. Wulf, get back where you stood and put back on your goggles."
Wulf did so, resuming his position in the hole and covering his eyes with goggles again. After a bit of a longer wait, the black void through the goggles was replaced by the colorful spinning tunnel again.
Then, the new arena appeared before Rena's and his eyes. It was the opposite of the previous arena.
Instead of a cold icy tundra, it was a blistering volcanic field. Lava rivers and lakes could be sighted in the distance along with volcanoes of different types spewing smoke from their crater. Rena assumed a fighting position as she readied herself for the fight.
Rena didn't quite know what Victor would do. She believed he might learn from her fight with Kai and not approach her first. He should also know of her ability to turn invisible, but as far as she was aware, he didn't have any way to see where she was while invisible.
Breathing in, her form vanished, and she began scurrying across the dark rocks that made up the ground of the arena. She just had to find Victor and plan from there, an invisible smirk on her face indicating that she knew this fight would be easy.
Eventually, she found a lava river flowing through the rocks savagely. Inspecting it from a cliff, she noticed ripples coming from a certain spot. Then, a slight orange mass seemed to have briefly emerged from the center before ducking back into the lava. Rena chuckled, then leaped from the cliff and spread her arms out.
"Diamond Storm!" She shouted in the air, shards striking the rocky edges facing the rippling spot.
The combined explosion from all of them detonating blew the part in the river, sending heated rocks flying and spewing lava up into the air. Victor was flown from the river and tumbled onto the ground.
From the smoke, he got up trying to look around, unsure if the lava had exploded for some reason or if Rena might've done it. Before Victor could flee to a new hiding place, Rena suddenly emerged in front of him and struck him hard with a Power Palm strike.
He got back up having struck a rocky wall, staring at Rena as his green eyes burned with determination. He shouted the words "Pepper Breath" three times as three fireballs were spewed from his mouth, heading straight towards Rena. His sharp claws then glowed, and he charged behind the fireballs to try and slash his opponent.
Focusing, Rena rushed directly into the path of the fireballs, making a carefully planned leap to avoid the first two fireballs. Then, she charged another Power Palm and directly struck the last fireball, shrouding her fist in flame. She struck Victor in his snout, sending him flying even further than before.
He landed in a notch at the base of a cliff situated next to a lava lake, the harsh collision between him and the wall causing the entire cliff to shake. Despite this brutal hit, Victor wasn't quite finished, not yet.
He barely tried to crawl out from the notch, trying to push through his injuries. He knew Rena would be where he landed soon, and he had to recover quickly.
What he didn't realize however was that the cliff shaking had loosened some sharp rocks that hung from the ceiling of the notch. Pointing downward, the rocks broke off and started falling on the ground, right when Victor was underneath them.
The rock penetrates Victor in the back, his abrupt yelping being cut off by his form evaporating into data. Rena looked up as the data rushed in a swarm into the sky again. She then sighed, satisfied with another easy victory.
The arena disappeared and Wulf took off the goggles, grinning himself. He stepped out once again to see Kai and Jason looking over the screen. He felt very proud of Rena, even if he knew her opponents weren't quite up to her skill.
"Well, that's that." He chuckled.
He and Zach disconnected their digivices from the machine, dispersing the fragments of data from them to reform into their Digimon. Wulf felt pleased to see Rena again, he went to hug her.
"You were amazing, Rena!" He congratulated her.
"Thank you, Wulf." She hugged him back, looking at Zach and Jason.
"See boys? That's what happens when you try fighting someone who has fought to survive in the Digital World." She winked as the two tended to their Digimon.
"You all right, Victor?" Zach asked.
The Agumon nodded, as did Kai to Jason. Despite their quick defeats, the two certainly enjoyed their fights with Rena.
"You're most certainly an impressive fighter, Rena," Victor told her, never seeing anything like her in an arena before.
"Yeah, he's right. We would love to see you in action again another day" Jason said.
"Of course, it would be my pleasure." She told them.
So much had transpired this day for Wulf and Rena. But it was clear that the once loner vixen was now starting to make a name for herself.
