Chapter 2
Sam pushed his way through a crowd of teens, trying to find a place just to sit and relax. A thing Sam hated about when he leaped into someone was the person he always landed in had a group of friends, or in Kwan's case, a group or a Club or A-listers as they called themselves. The popular group at Casper High and Kwan was supposed to be one of the top A-Listers that knew everybody. Only Sam wasn't Kwan. He'd gotten that the blond haired girl's name was Star and that the two of them had a relationship going on that wasn't all that straight out but the Latino that Star was always standing close to he had no idea who she was.
"Hey Kwan!"
Sam turned towards the voice to see Dash and an African American smiling almost like a hyena. "Hey," Sam nodded, walking over towards the two.
"Dillon here invited Tubby the Tuba, you remember that band geek right," Dash said, leaning his elbow on Dillon as a sly smile appeared on the teen. "We're going to give him the welcome wagon, you wanna join?"
"I don't know," Sam said, holding his side as if it hurt. He desperately wanted to get out of this party. "I'm not feeling all that good."
Dash stood straight, real worry on his face as he looked at who he thought was his friend. "You okay? We've got a game Thursday night and Tetslaff would kill you if she found out you caught something."
"I think it's just something I ate," Sam tried to push it off as.
"Okay, see you tomorrow," Dash said.
"Get well, man," Dillon said, giving the man a crooked smile.
Sam smiled at the two before working his way out of the house, glad the excuse worked. He didn't want to be around for when "Tubby the Tuba" appeared.
As soon as Sam made it out of the house, a white light appeared signifying the Door had opened.
"Sam, you've gotta see Fenton's place," Al said, his eyes almost bugging out.
"Lead the way," Sam said, following the hologram away from the party. "So what's the Fenton house?"
"It's called Fenton Works," Al explained. "They've got a neon sign outside of their house almost like it's a workshop as well as their house."
"What, you didn't go inside?" Sam asked, eyeing his friend.
"I glanced around the living room and kitchen but every time I passed Daniel, it was like he could see me," Al said.
"Is he still young enough that he could?" Sam asked. "Or mentally young?"
"He looks to be just starting his teens," Al said. "I can't say about his mental state."
"He also could be part of the ten percent of people who can just naturally see you," Sam pointed out. "That does happen."
"I guess," Al said, lowering his arm with the device in it as the two walked down the darkening main street.
The two took in the sights in silence for a moment before Sam stopped in front of a store front.
"What is it?" Al asked, noticing Sam was looking at the doorway.
"Computer lab," Sam pointed out. "Maybe we could look up Fenton Works. There has to be some sort of search engine for the internet."
"Worth a try," Al said, shrugging as he followed his friend inside the building to find it full of computers.
"Hey Kwan. Your mom using the internet again at your place?" a man in a red and white polo said, his working badge said his name was Tim.
"Yeah, and I gotta do some research for something tomorrow," Sam said, smiling at the man.
Tim turned back towards his own computer, turned to face the front door, leaving Sam and Al to the almost empty room. The only other computer being used was by a red head in the far corner. Sam walked to a computer in the other corner and noticed it asked for a pin number and ID. He pulled out Kwan's wallet and noticed there was a card for the Computer Lab. He pulled it out and smiled when he saw what was on the back.
"Well, you don't have to worry about Ziggy trying to hack into his account," Al said, seeing the ID was printed on the card with the pin written in ink.
"And here we go," Sam said, clicking on what was labeled as Google Search. After typing in Fenton Works, the two learned that Maddie and Jack Fenton were ghost hunters and supplied ghost hunting and capturing equipment to anyone in America and Canada.
"I remember hearing about them, Sam," Al realized, looking over Sam's shoulder at the screen. Sam turned so he could look at the hologram only to notice the red head's attention. He turned back as Al continued, "Do you remember when Wisconsin U. decided to add Ghost Hunting as a course?"
"Al," Sam hissed, wishing his friend to remember his own past.
"Right, child protégée, anyway," Al rolled. "They needed a government agreement for one of their experiments, creating a portal or something. If it worked, the military was supposed to get their own portal. Anyway it was run by three people, and Fenton was one of them."
"And the other two?" Sam whispered.
"Some Russian name and some curly red head," Al said, trying to remember. The man shook his head, not sure. "I don't know anymore. The only reason I remember the Fenton name is because Jack Fenton was very…" he paused for a moment before deciding on, "let's just say enthusiastic about what he liked."
"Well, let's see what we can get on Daniel," Sam said, going back to Google. Typing in the name, he found not much sadly. Though one article kept reappearing about him being the only one to either be brave enough or stupid enough in Sam's mind to find out that one of the only purple back gorillas was actually female.
"Hey, what's this?" Al asked, pointing towards a link.
Sam clicked it, finding himself looking at a web site called MySpace. The top of the site held a picture of the boy in question with Danny Fenton written next to it.
"Kwan? Why are you looking at my little brother's MySpace?" a female voice asked, startling Sam into automatically hitting a combo of keys on the keyboard that brought up the desktop. He turned around to find the red head that had been using the other computer was now standing with her books in her arms where Al had been moments ago. Desperate to come up with something, Sam found himself speechless. "I know what you and Dash do at school, I'm not blind," the girl said, sighing.
"Look, I'm-"
"Save it," the girl cut off, waving away his words with her free hand. "He may not be willing to tell Lancer on you two, but I am. This is a warning. The next time you harm him…" she let her words hang in the air for a moment before turning to leave.
"Actually, I need your help," Sam said, thinking quickly as he stood up.
The girl stopped and looked over her shoulder, her face questioning him.
"Your brother, Danny, he's stronger then he acts at school, isn't he?" Sam asked.
The girl's face deepened with worry as she turned fully to face him. "What do you know about that?"
Sam tried to find a way that wouldn't make Kwan seem weird to this girl, going for, "I think Dash is going to do something tomorrow that will make Danny snap."
"Huh?"
"I don't know what, but…" Sam looked away, putting a hand in his pocket to do something with his hands. "Just help me make sure the two of them don't have any problems tomorrow, okay?"
"Sure…" the girl said, eyeing him. She leaned closer, looking almost into Sam through Kwan's eyes. "You're not possessed, are you?"
"I hope not," Sam said, taking that after the ghost attack earlier, possession of humans wasn't too far out there anymore. "Just trust me, okay? I don't think I've given you too many reasons to in the past, but this is bigger than just a school social ladder. Someone could really get hurt, and I'd rather no one did."
The girl looked like she was thinking a moment, before nodding, "Okay, I'll do what I can to keep Danny out of Dash's sights." She turned around, making sure that was the end of discussion, and left the computer lab.
Sam slumped back into the chair, a sigh releasing as he prayed that worked. Seeing himself there, he knew nothing had changed. He turned himself back to the computer and logged off, thinking a walk around town would help himself.
