A/N On the show despite how Buffy hates the disruption being the Slayer causes her life, I don't think she'd ever choose to rid herself of being the Slayer. She could have quit when Kendra or Faith came to town, in fact Joyce suggested just that in one episode after Faith came to town. Something that that writer of the essay I mentioned in an earlier chapter about Giles being the perfect supportive dad and Joyce being a terrible mother used as part of their argument to support that belief. Problem with that is that Joyce had no understanding of what she was proposing. She thought it was a job that someone else could just step into and didn't understand that death was the result of being a Slayer. She was trying to protect Buffy, because she loved her daughter. That being said, Buffy will continue to be apart of this story and credit to demonboy121986 for inspiring how. There's a delicious irony to it ;)
In Grimm, Wesen are the basis of myths, legends and fairy tales. The information Xander is going to provide is a combination of several different such myths, legends and fairy tales.

"Wait a minute." Joyce said. "She's currently missing a piece of her soul if your theory is right. Just cleansing her of this demonic power wouldn't be enough to protect her from other corrupting influences, would it? She'd be more susceptible with it missing."
"Good catch and you may be right." Amy said.
"I don't want to stop being a Slayer." Buffy said. "Like the rest of you, it's given me a purpose and one I don't want to lose. Is there a way to compromise, remove the demonic power and protect my soul?"
"We could cleanse you first and then soul bond you after ward." Xander said. "And I think I have an idea of what would work to protect your soul and what could be used to help you remain powerful, just not a Slayer. But it would require you to become a Wesen yourself."
"A Wesen?" Joyce asked. "What does that mean exactly?"
"It means the animal that is the other side of a Wesen. Cordy's other side is a fox, Percy's is a cat. An Abath's is a unicorn."
"Unicorn's are real?!" Buffy and Joyce yelled at the same time.
"And this really surprises you?" Faith asked. "Damenfeuer are Dragon Wesen. Dragons. Mermaid are real too and cupids and a bunch of other things. Not necessarily the way stories show them, but still real."
"Which is both a good and a bad thing sometimes." Xander said. "Real unicorns were hunted nearly to extinction because it was believed they have magical abilities, but don't or that their horns could protect against any number of things, which if they're still attached to their heads and being used as a weapon is true."
"Unicorns are still around? Where are they?" Buffy asked.
"That I don't know for sure." Xander said. "But we don't need an actual unicorn, just a unicorn's horn and that I do know where to find."
"What good does having a unicorn's horn do us?" Joyce asked.
"It has a unicorn's DNA in it." Amy said. "I can blend it into you, Buffy, using Magic and make you an Abath, a Unicorn Wesen. That would allow you to retain your strength, because Abath are strong. And once you have control, you can change back and forth at will. Not that you'd completely turn into a unicorn. Abaths, like Fuchsbau, can't completely become an animal."
"But how does that help her soul?" Joyce asked.
"It doesn't, that's a separate issue. She can be soul bonded to you." Xander answered. "If you're willing, you can share your soul with her and be her moral anchor."
"Essentially you want to make me one of these Abath." Buffy said. "And make my mother my soul mate. Why not Pike?"
"Different kind of soul mate, Buffy." Amy said with a grin. "By sharing her soul with you, your mom will be your shield."
"Like Diana is for me." Faith said. "Just a little more literal, that's all."
"So where is this unicorn horn?" Joyce asked.
"In Uncle Rory's Magic supplies. It doesn't have any magical properties of its own, but powder from it can be used in spells. He inherited it, it's been in the Harris family for several generations."
"I'm willing to do the cleansing thing." Buffy said. "And to become a Wesen, I'll fit into this group even better."
"And I'm willing to do the soul bonding and be her shield." Joyce said. "It's a mother's job to do that anyway."
"Can you imagine the look on Mr. Windy Price Tag's face when we tell him?"
A/N There is some precedent in Grimm to support this as a Wesen mother, a geneticist and a turtle type Wesen altered her son's DNA on purpose by adding Lowen DNA to it. Unfortunately it didn't work too well for him as science wasn't quite able to handle it. But Magic in the Buffyverse can turn humans into demons and vice versa. I don't think it's that far of a stretch to think it could create a human unicorn ;)
There's also precedent in Grimm of humans undergoing organ transplants from Wesen and acquiring Wesen characteristics, they don't always end well because the human can't accept it. Buffy's already had to deal with that when she became a Slayer. Also, in Grimm, Magic can be used to make a Wesen, in that particular case Juliette, Nick's girlfriend, became an extremely powerful Hexenbiest and changed her name to Eve.
