Chapter 86: Hubert:
Tommy's POV:
It was late at night... I can't tell you what time it was because I can't tell time. Then I wake up and I saw a big truck like monster. It was eating garbage. "That's the last of it, Hubert!"
"Hubert!"
. . .
The next day...
"I had this weird dream," says Chuckie, "there was this big monster, and it had this big mouth and these big teeth, and it was eating trash!"
"It wasn't a dream," I said, "it was a monster, and its name was Hubert, I saw it too!"
"A monster that eats trash," says Dil, "I wanna see!"
"Me too," says Kimi.
"Sounds like my kind of monster," says Phil.
"Neat," says Lil.
"Maybe we can find it more food," I said.
Ickis' POV:
Remember us? Oblina, Krumm, and I'm Ickis. We went after those babies before? Anyway, Oblina and I are hungry. Then Krumm came in. "Guys, remember those babies we chased after before," asks Krumm, "well, most of them are three, one's four, and there's one that's a baby... I think he was born after..."
"Please get to the point, Krumm," says Oblina.
"What point," asks Krumm, "oh right! Anyway, there's this garbage truck and the babies think it's a monster like us and they plan to feed it!"
"Hey, if they give the garbage truck more food," I said, "that would mean more food for us!"
"This could work for us," says Oblina.
Tommy's POV:
We were waiting for Hubert... but he didn't come.
"Maybe I was dreaming," says Chuckie.
"I think you were both dreaming," says Lil.
"Or maybe Hubert is invisible," says Dil.
"Are you worried about him too," asks Phil.
"Maybe we just need to get more trash," I said.
. . .
It's been nights and Hubert finally came and he took all the trash we left out for him. You're probably wondering where we got it... anyway, we got food for Hubert.
Ickis' POV:
We got so much food. "We have a new best friend," I said, "and his name is Hubert!"
"But Ickis, Hubert isn't real," says Krumm, "he's a garbage truck."
"Are you worried about him too," I asked.
"I just realized," says Oblina, "the garbage truck only comes once a week! What if the babies get tired of waiting and decide to stop bringing 'Hubert' food!"
"Well, Hubert doesn't exist," says Krumm.
"Krumm, stay with us," I said, "this means we don't get more food! We have to make sure those babies keep feeding Hubert!"
"But-"
"WE KNOW HE DOESN'T EXIST," I shouted.
Tommy's POV:
We got more trash to feed Hubert.
"I hope they like my idea of recycling trucks," says Mommy, "instead of people having to drive to the recycling plant themselves!"
"Don't worry," says Daddy, "you're gonna be on TV!"
"Stu, you haven't cleaned the garage in weeks," says Mommy.
"I'll take it all to the recycling plant before the interview," says Daddy, "they'll only see one can!"
That's when I learn we have a problem!
. . .
"One can's not gonna be enough," I said.
"So, what do we do," asks Kimi.
"Get more monster food," says a voice that came out of nowhere.
"Let's do it," I said.
. . .
We then got more food and filled up the garage.
"Hubert's gonna love it," says Kimi.
"Yeah," I said, "Phil, stop playing in the garbage!"
"Okay," says Phil.
. . .
Mommy's now on TV, but when they open the garage, they see all the monster food for Hubert.
Ickis' POV:
"So, give it to me straight," I said.
"Watch the news," says Oblina.
Because the lead baby's mom's campaign was so bad, they ended up doing her idea.
Tommy's POV:
"Baby Huberts!" We all said as we saw more Huberts coming to eat the food.
AGU Adventurers' POV:
Tommy: There are many ways we can take care of our Earth
Together, we can finally show her how much she is worth
For there is only one place that all of us call home
It is this pale blue dot of ours that we freely roam
We can take our cans and sort them into a different bin
And buy things with less packaging to score another win
Simple things, like less paper waste, stops pollution's haste
Allowing all to view Mother Nature's perfect taste
Wash out jars, cans, and other recyclables so they're clean
That's a step as vital as using less polystyrene
Reusable bags and food containers make a lot of sense
It takes just a little thought to make a really big difference
AGU Adventurers: Let's come together and show Mother Earth how much she's worth
Think of future generations, for she's not just our earth
Let's ensure the world's survival
And reduce... reuse... and recycle
Tommy: We can walk, instead of drive, to close places every day
Or ride a train or catch a bus if it's too far away
Sharing a car can limit emissions too, it's true
Sometimes biking might be the best thing that you can do
There are always lots of chores that people need to get done
All that running around in cars is never really fun
If errands were combined and finished all in one trip
It would save some gas and carbon emissions would dip
Every effort we take to reduce the footprint we make
Matters more than you think, because the whole world is at stake
Tiny snowflakes join into an avalanche with power
Saving energy counts, every single kilowatt hour
Fresh water is one of our most precious commodities
With little changes, we can make a big difference, you see
A "running faucet" isn't trying to run away
It's wasting water and "running" up your bill each day
We can also pay more attention to the foods we eat
'cause some use lots of water to create that tasty treat
It takes hundreds of gallons for just one pound of beef
Smarter eating gives our world some much needed relief
That doesn't mean we can never use water to have fun
It just means to be careful, not to let the faucet run
Sure, making changes to routines can sometimes seem tough
But life in a polluted world – that'd be pretty rough
AGU Adventurers: Changing an old light bulb is more than an epiphany
It's also a good way that you conserve more energy
LEDs are just as bright and last many hours long
Removing tons of emissions that really don't belong
Turning lights off to save money won't make anyone rich
But it's so very easy to flip off an unused switch
It will help reduce the amount of energy used
Ensuring our planet's resources are not abused
We can change the business where we access our power source
Renewables reduce fossil fuels without losing energy force
Solar, wind, and hydro are some options: that's just three
What other changes might make a better world for you and me
Tommy/AGU Adventurers: We can clean out our air filters at home once in a while
So, that way, good indoor breathing can always be in style
Programmable thermostats set the "temp" when you're gone
Allowing Earth's fuels to continue pressing on
Our landfills are the places that take in our solid waste
Where trash bag after trash bag, piled up high, seem to be placed
Composting is a way to reduce what's thrown away
Giving us more land and space to go outside and play
A little thought and time each day is really all it takes
Because there never really have been any higher stakes
Let's show our Earth just how much we all think she's worth
So that all living creatures can experience rebirth!
In the next chapter, the Babies look for Satchmo.
