Marchioness Ranking and Good Rod
In the Lumiose City Pokemon Center, Kevin, Rolf, Jonny, and Nazz were in the cafeteria, having dinner while Kevin's Pokemon were being treated after their battle at the Lumiose City Gym.
"Three more badges; just three more badges and we can compete in the Kalos League." said Kevin.
"Right on!" said Jonny.
"So like, where's the next gym at?" asked Nazz. Kevin takes out the map and unfolds it on the table.
"The next gym is in a place called Laverre City." said Kevin. "If we travel north of Lumiose City, we can get to Route 14, after we get through there, we can reach Laverre City."
"Hey, guys; you think we can stop by the Battle Chateau first so I can like, try to climb to the next rank there?" asked Nazz.
"Sure, Nazz." said Kevin. "But first, I'm gonna swap my Dodrio for my Tyrunt."
"How come?" asked Jonny.
"I have enough flying types on my team, and I can use more variety for it." said Kevin. He goes to the Pokemon Center's PC and uses it to swap his Dodrio for his Tyrunt. After the group finished eating and Kevin picks up the rest of his Pokemon, the group leaves the Pokemon Center. Kevin hops on his bike and the group travelled east until they reached the exit to Route 5.
They walked until they once again find themselves in Camphrier Town; it was starting to get dark, so they decided to spend the night there and continue on to the Battle Chateau in the morning.
The next morning, after breakfast, the group left the Pokemon Center and continued travelling west; they soon found themselves in front of the Battle Chateau.
"Time to earn my next ranking." said Nazz.
"Go for it, Nazz." said Kevin. A thought came to Jonny's head; he reaches into his backpack and pulls out the Good Rod he got in Coumarine City.
"Hey, guys; I'm going to head down to Route 8 and try to fish up a water Pokemon." said Jonny.
"Sure, man. Rolf, why don't you go with him?" said Kevin.
"Yes; Rolf shall accompany Jonny the wood boy." said Rolf.
"Come back soon, we don't want to go to Laverre City without you two." said Nazz.
"We shall return." said Rolf. Nazz and Kevin walked towards the Battle Chateau while Jonny and Rolf walked towards the Connecting Cave.
Once inside the Battle Chateau, Nazz was greeted by Mr. Hennessy.
"Greeting, Countess Nazz." said Mr. Hennessy.
"Hey, Mr. Hennessy." said Nazz.
"How are things progressing in your Pokemon journey?" asked Mr. Hennessy.
"Awesome." said Nazz as she takes out her badge case and showing it Mr. Hennessy. "I already have five badges."
"Splendid; that means you're much closer to competing in the Kalos League." said Mr. Hennessy.
"Yeah; and also, I'm here to try to earn my next ranking." said Nazz.
"Very well, Lady Nazz; and I should let you know when you face Earls or other Countesses, you will each use two Pokemon instead of one." said Mr. Hennessy.
"Awesome." said Nazz. She turned towards Kevin. "Can I borrow the pokedex, Kevin?"
"Sure thing." said Kevin. He takes the pokedex out of his backpack and gives it to Nazz. She then walks further around looking for an Earl or a Countess to challenge until he sees a man in an Earl cape. "Excuse me, but would you like, have a Pokemon battle with me?"
"Of course." replied the Earl. He and Nazz each pull a pokeball out of their pocket.
"Litleo, go!" said Nazz, throwing Litleo's pokeball and releasing her.
"Seviper, go!" said the Earl, throwing the pokeball and releasing a black, snakelike Pokemon with long, red fangs, and a blade shape on the end of its tail.
"What is that?" asked Nazz. She points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Seviper, the Fang Snake Pokemon. Constant polishing makes the edge of the blade on its tail extremely sharp. It's Zangoose's archrival." said the pokedex.
"Litleo, Work Up!" said Nazz. Litleo becomes surrounded by a red aura and her strength increases.
"Seviper, Poison Tail!" said the Earl. The end of Seviper's tail glows purple and it swings it at Litleo, hitting her.
"Litleo, Fire Fang!" said Nazz. Litleo pounces at Seviper while her mouth is covered in flames and she bites onto Seviper, dealing damage to it. Seviper becomes covered in fire. "Looks like Seviper's burned." Seviper suddenly begins shedding its skin and it falls away from it. "What was that?"
"Seviper's Shed Skin ability; it cures him of any status condition he may be afflicted with." said the Earl. "Seviper, Bite!" Seviper lunges at Litleo and bites her.
"Litleo, Headbutt!" said Nazz. Litleo rams her head into Seviper, damaging him.
"Seviper, Poison Tail!" said the Earl. Seviper strikes Litleo with his tail again.
"Fire Fang!" said Nazz. Litleo lunges at Seviper and bites him with firey fangs, knocking him out. "Way to go, Litleo."
"Well played." said the Earl, returning Seviper to his pokeball. "Now lets see how well you do against Venipede." He tosses the pokeball and releases a magenta and green, insectoid Pokemon. Nazz points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Venipede, the Centipede Pokemon. Its bite injects a potent poison, enough to paralyze large bird Pokémon that try to prey on it." said the pokedex. Litleo and Venipede face each other.
"Litleo, Fire Fang!" said Nazz. Litleo lunges at Venipede and bites it, dealing super effective damage. It turned purple under Litleo's eyes.
"It appears your Litleo has fallen victim to Venipede's Poison Point." said the Earl.
"Isn't that the ability that poisons a Pokemon that physically attacks a Pokemon with that ability?" asked Nazz.
"Precisely." said the Earl. "Venipede, Poison Sting!" Venipede unleashes glowing purple darts from its mouth and they hit Litleo. Lilteo coughs from her poisoning and loses some stamina.
"Litleo, Headbutt!" said Nazz. Litleo rams her head into Venipede, damaging it.
"Venipede, Rollout!" said the Earl. Venipede rolls towards Litleo and rams her, dealing super effective damage. Litleo coughs from her poisoning and loses more stamina. She struggles to say on her feet.
"Fire Fang!" said Nazz. Litleo bites onto Venipede, dealing enough damage to knock it out. "Way to go, Litleo." The Earl returns Venipede to its pokeball.
"You did well, Venipede." said the Earl. He puts Venipede's pokeball away and walks to Nazz. "Quite the battle, young Countess."
"Thanks." said Nazz. The Earl gives Nazz pokedollars and walks away. "Boy, these Earls are tough; I need to step up my Pokemon's training after this." She uses an Antidote and a Potion of Litleo before returning her to her pokeball.
"Excuse me." Nazz hears someone calling out to her. She looks to see a woman in a Countess cape walking to her. "But may I trouble you for a Pokemon battle?"
"Sure thing." replied Nazz. Both Nazz and the Countess each pull out a pokeball.
Meanwhile on a beach in Route 8, Jonny was standing near the ocean with Rolf who was holding Plank, while holding the Good Rod while the fishing line was in the ocean.
"I hope I catch something soon, Plank." said Jonny. He suddenly feels a sharp tug on the Good Rod. "I caught something! I caught something!" He pulls the Good Rod and the line comes out of the ocean; holding the other end of it was a blue, shrimplike Pokmeon with a pair of pincers, one that was bigger than the other. "I wish I had the pokedex so I can know what this Pokemon is; but I'll try to capture it anyway." Jonny pulls out a pokeball. "Go, Quilladin!" He tosses Quilladin's pokeball and releases him. The other Pokemon looks at Quilladin and opens its pincers. "Quilladin, Cut!" Quilladin runs at the Pokemon and swipes at it with his arm, hitting it. The Pokemon opens its pincer and fires a stream of water at Quilladin, hitting it, but not doing much damage to it. "That looked like Water Gun; I'm definitely catching this Pokemon. Quilladin, Vine Whip!" Two green vines come out of Quilladin's back and they strike the Pokemon, dealing super effective damage to it, knocking it to the ground. Jonny takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Pokemon, hitting it and sucking it in. After it wiggled around, several times, it clicks, indicating a successful capture. "Right on!" The pokeball vanishes and is transported to storage.
"Very good, Jonny." said Rolf.
"Zangoose, Rock Smash!" Jonny and Rolf both hear someone yell out. They look to see a man and a Zangoose; the Zangoose runs at a large rock with its arm raised and its claws glowing white and smashes the rock. The man looks around the area the rock once was and sees a Big Pearl. He picks it up off the sand. "Great work, Zangoose." Zangoose nods.
"Whoa, neato." said Jonny, getting the man's attention.
"You bet it is." said Zangoose's trainer. "In fact, you can find lots of valubles under some rocks. All you need is a Pokemon that knows Rock Smash."
"Wow, cool." said Jonny. He turned towards Rolf. "Good thing Quilladin and Gogoat know Rock Smash; bet we can find some neat stuff."
"Yes; Rolf also wishes to find some valuables to sell for money to use on our journey." said Rolf. He takes out a pokeball from his pocket. "Gogoat, Rolf chooses you!" He tosses Gogoat's pokeball and releases him. "Gogoat, use Rock Smash on that rock!" Gogoat charges at the rock while his horns glowed white and rams the rock, breaking it into pieces. Rolf sees a Pearl where the rock used to be and picks it up.
"Quilladin, Rock Smash!" said Jonny. Quilladin raises his arm and smashes into rock to bits. Jonny sees a small purple pouch on the ground and picks it up. He opens it to see it was full of sand. "Aw, man, it's just sand."
"Wait, young man; that's Soft Sand." said Zangoose's trainer. "It powers up the ground type moves of the Pokemon holding it."
"Really? Cool!" said Jonny. He pulls out a pokeball and tosses it, releasing his Krokorok. Jonny gives Krokorok the Soft Sand and returns her to her pokeball.
Jonny and Rolf spent twenty minutes, smashing rocks. Jonny found a Star Piece while Rolf finds his own Soft Sand, which he gives to Diggersby. They then return their Pokemon to their pokeballs. Jonny and Rolf went to the Ambrette City Pokemon Center where Jonny sold his Star Piece and Rolf sold his Pearl; they use some of the money to each buy two pokeballs. Jonny uses the PC to trade his Butterfree for the Pokemon he caught. After that, Rolf and Jonny walked down the direction of the Battle Chateau.
Back at the Battle Chateau, Nazz was facing a Countess, both holding a pokeball.
"Absol, go!" said the Countess, throwing a pokeball and releasing a white, quadrupedal, Pokemon with a dark blue face and scythe shaped horn on the side of its head.
"Whoa, she has an Absol like Eddy." said Nazz as she takes out the pokedex and points it at the Absol.
"Absol, the Disaster Pokemon. It appears when it senses an impending natural disaster. As a result, it was mistaken as a doom bringer." said the pokedex.
"Go, Farfetch'd!" said Nazz, tossing Farfetch'd's pokeball and releasing him.
"Absol, use Quick Attack!" said the Countess. Absol charges at Farfetch'd with incredible speed and rams him.
"Farfetch'd, use Fury Cutter!" said Nazz. Farfetch's leaps at Absol and slashes it with his leek, dealing super effective damage due to bug type moves being strong against dark type Pokemon.
"Absol, use Bite!" said the Countess. Absol lunges at Farfetch'd and bites him, damaging him.
"Use Fury Cutter again!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd slashes Absol with his leek, dealing more damage to Absol than the first Fury Cutter did.
"Absol, Leer!" said the Countess. Absol looks at Farfetch'd and its eyes glow red, weakening Farfetch'd defense.
"I better finish this now; Farfetch'd, one more Fury Cutter!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd slashes Absol with an even stronger Fury Cutter, knocking it out. "Way to go, Farfetch'd!" She hears the pokedex chimes. Nazz looks at it. "Hey; says here, you learned Agility." The Countess returns Absol to its pokeball.
"A fine battle." said the Countess while putting Absol's pokeball away and pulling out a Net Ball. "Let's see how Farfetch'd fares against my Staryu." She tosses the Net Ball and releases a starfish-like Pokemon. Nazz points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Staryu, the Starshape Pokemon. It appears in large numbers by seashores. At night, its central core flashes with a red light." said the pokedex.
"Staryu, Bubble Beam!" said the Countess. Staryu fires a beam of bubbles from the top appendage of its body and it hits Farfetch'd, damaging him, and reducing his speed.
"Farfetch'd, Aerial Ace!" said Nazz. Farfetch'd flies at Staryu while white streaks of light surround his body and rams into it, knocking it back.
"Staryu, Tackle!" said the Countess. Staryu spins towards Farfetch'd and rams into him, knocking him out. "It appears my Staryu has bested your Farfetch'd."
"Yeah." replied Nazz as she return Farfetch'd to his pokeball. "It's okay, Farfetch'd, you tried your best." She puts Farfetch'd's pokeball away and pulls out another. "Dedenne, go!" She tosses Dedenne's pokeball and releases her. "Dedenne, Nuzzle!" Dedenne rubs her cheeks until electricity forms on them; she then runs at Staryu and rubs her cheeks against it, dealing super effective damage to it. It freezes in place and static covers its body. "Looks like Staryu's paralyzed."
"Staryu, Rapid Spin!" said the Countess. The Staryu tries to move, but paralysis stops it from attacking.
"Dedenne, Thunder Shock!" said Nazz. Dedenne releases electricity from her body and they hit Staryu, knocking it out. "Way to do, Dedenne!" Dedenne raises her arms and cheers. The Countess returns Staryu to its Net Ball.
"You did splendid, Staryu." said the Countess. She walks to Nazz. "You're quite the strong trainer, Countess Nazz."
"Thanks; you're pretty strong yourself." said Nazz. The Countess gives Nazz pokedollars and walks away. "Boy; the battles here are getting tough. I better train harder." She returns Dedenne to her pokeball. She then sees Mr. Hennessy walking to her with a yellow cape with a pokeball shaped medal on it.
"Countess Nazz; I am pleased to inform you that with all the battles you've won, you have risen to the ranking of Marchioness." said Mr. Hennessy.
"Radical!" said Nazz. She removes her Countess cape and gives it to Mr. Hennessy, who then gives Nazz the Marchioness cape; she puts it on.
"Will you try to earn the next ranking, Marchioness Nazz?" asked Mr. Hennessy.
"Maybe some other time; I want to make sure my Pokemon are ready." said Nazz.
"As you wish." said Mr. Hennessy. As Nazz walks towards the entrance, she sees Charlotte in her Countess cape and her Shuppet battling a Viscountess with a Spoink. Wanting her Pokemon to rest, she did not want to deal with Charlotte at the moment; she makes her way to the front without Charlotte noticing her.
At the entrance, Nazz walks to Kevin.
"Hey, Kevin; I'm a Marchioness now." said Nazz, spreading her cape.
"Way to go, Nazz." said Kevin. He and Nazz then exit the Battle Chateau. Once outside, they see Jonny and Rolf approaching.
"So how did it go, Jonny?" asked Nazz. Jonny takes out a pokeball and tosses it, releasing the Pokemon he caught.
"Can you use the pokedex so I can know what this Pokemon is?" asked Jonny.
"Sure, Jonny." said Nazz as she takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Clauncher, the Water Gun Pokemon. Through controlled explosions of internal gas, it can expel water like a pistol shot. At close distances, it can shatter rock." said the pokedex.
"Far out!" said Jonny.
"This says your Clauncher is a water type, it's a boy, he knows Splash, Water Gun, Water Sport, Vice Grip, Bubble, Flail, Bubble Beam, and Swords Dance. said Nazz. "He has the Mega Launcher ability which powers up his pulse and aura moves." Jonny takes out the Surf HM and uses it on Clauncher. He also gives Clauncher the Wave Incense he bought in Courmarine City.
Jonny and Rolf told Kevin and Nazz about how they can find valuable items under rocks with Rock Smash. With the pokedex, Kevin saw that his Tyrunt can learn Rock Smash while Nazz saw her Litleo can do the same. Jonny gives Kevin the Rock Smash TM and he uses it on his Tyrunt; after that, he gives it to Nazz who uses it on her Litleo; she then gives it back to Jonny. Now that Nazz has risen to the Marchioness ranking and Jonny has caught a Clauncher, the group can continue on their way to Laverre City.
