Chapter II - A whole New World
When I awoke I found myself in an entirely new world. One that I hadn't planned on.
I assume that I had transformed, the steam and the many lines on my face being self evident of the fact I had eaten a shifter. Why not of course? Surely some other worldly Entity was using my life and my suffering for some ungodly sort of entertainment… So why not damn me more suffering?
(Author Insert: That's me! I'm the other worldly entity! My mental sanity is crackling at the seams!)
Besides the obvious of me now being thrown into hell once more, I began searching my surroundings. Yup, dozens and dozens of rotting corpses, streets left abandoned, many, many gigantic footsteps sunken into crackled brick road.
That pretty much says it all, I'm in Shiganshina District.
But how? I don't recall there being any Shifters left here after the fall? Unless I ate Eren during the Battle of Shingashina? But no, that cannot be, I would have a dozen Scouts bearing down on me, to protect me from an angered Mikasa Ackerman if nothing else. These streets were quite… too quite.
Looking around I saw a pile of… bodies? It was hard to really tell, but gore it most certainly was. What was interesting was that one of the rotten bodies covered in flies mind you, was familiar.
The Cadaver almost looked like… Carla Yeager? As I stepped closer I almost tripped on another corpse, much fresher than the last. The head had been destroyed, but there were some all too familiar glasses not far from where the head should be.
That just about does it. Surely this is Grisha Yeager.
There are only a four shifters on Eldia at this point, and I know that by now the Warriors should be long gone. Well, long gone while Grisha should be dead. How did he end up here? It makes no sense! Surely in the time that Shingashina was abandoned by the Titans Grisha would have already passed his abilities onto Eren? It doesn't make sense?
Wait… does that mean I have the Founding Titan? If it really is Grisha then surely that means he had the founder? Oh god that means that the government will want my booty cheeks! Wait, what if this is one of those weird stories where there is a tenth titan shifter? Oh god what If I am stuck with one of those cringe worthy forms?!
Looking at my hand, and looking left and right, I bring my hand up to my mouth and bite down.
And good lord let me tell you, I bit down like a mother fucker, I don't know how Eren did it, but by god does this fucking hurt!
After a few minutes of gnawing on my hand I turn to the sound of rumbling, and look down the street to see death staring at me.
Smiling awkwardly like some pedophile telling you he was set up was one of the ugliest titans I had ever seen. It looked straight out of a piece made by Picasso and would make Bonnie Aarons scream in terror. He smiled brightly, before sprinting straight at me.
It took me a second as I bit down even harder, feeling my thumb come clean off as I felt the burn. It took all of a second to feel the rush of electricity run up my spine and in a second I was much, much taller.
And by much, I mean much taller. Where once I barely stood 149, I now stand at around 15 meters from my assumption, far larger than that pedo titan that is still trying to, quite painfully might I add, devour me. It wasn't much successful due to the sheer difference in size, so with one hand I grabbed it by the head and with an audible crack it would out of its misery.
Taking a feel over myself I noticed a few things. One, there was a delay. If I wanted to move my hand to the left, It would take a second before it would move. Kinda like a really laggy VR game. Secondly, it seems almost as if my titan was similar if not Identical to Eren's titan. My black hair was much longer, reaching to my jaw line. My features were sunken, and my mouth and jaw jagged.
There goes any chance of talking like Zeke… I had a small fraction of hope, but eh, Erens, or rather now my titan form is still the most badass in the series, and although I cannot prove it, I might have the Founding Titan along with it.
Although yeah I do wish I wasn't forced with having my lifetime cut short, there isn't much I could do in that situation, and besides, even if its not how I really look outside my transformation, most people would kill to get muscles like this, I flexed.
"AHH!"
I heard from my left, as I noticed a sight I hadn't seen before. A girl, staring right at me in shock. Of course I immediately turn towards her, slightly shocked. How long was she standing there, she certainly saw me flexing my muscles, but did she see me transform? It wouldn't do well for someone to take notice of me already?!
Ah.
But then… this is Shiganshina… I could just… leave? They would all die, and In the end I wouldn't have to worry about my secret being leaked?
Turning my attention back upon the quivering girl, I notice that she was too busy watching me in shock to notice that just behind her another titan was marching towards her, its mission solely to devour her. I stepped closer, and watched as she fell to the ground as the titan behind her turned its attention to me as it growled, finally taking her attention off of me.
In a blur I reeled my arm back, and with enough force to stir up whirlwinds I punched, sending the titan crashing to the ground as I walked closer, careful to step over the girl as I squashed my foot down on their nape, ending that person's suffering.
I turned to look back at the girl, only to find her gone, though not without a trace. The small straw hat she wore was on the ground next to one of the allies, where I suppose she had run off to in the end.
Turning my attention back towards those growling fiends I brought my fist up, turning towards the titans. Surely it wouldn't hurt to deal with some of these Titans a little early.
"How can you call yourself a soldier?" - Eren Yeager to Jean "Horseface" Kirstein
Francis was getting old, too old for days like this.
He had been on first week off of the year, one of four that the MP's get in their year of near nonstop labor if they aren't a corrupt dickbag.
He had joined the MP's when he graduated training ten years back, and as a Captain in the MP's he was well regarded for his fairness. Never taking a bribe and never letting a criminal go. Of course many of his compatriots in the MP's gave the corps a bad rep, but he would like to think he was doing his part. So when he visited his brother in Shiganshina District he had big plans. Give his brother some cash, and then take them out to dine at one of the nice restaurants up in Trost before returning to his command in Krolva.
Such things weren't what happened.
Instead he was the only thing shielding his niece from the sight of her parents being devoured by titans, and when he tried to go out, to save at least some people…
He soiled himself, and ran. He ran back to his brother's house and barricaded him and his niece in the basement.
Of course the Titans tried to drag them out, reaching their arms in the door, but because his brother had one of the more reinforced houses, they were left unscathed.
So as the Titans began to leave Shiganshina, he slowly began to explore out, the bodies and the stench the only thing keeping him from straying far. The fact there were most certainly still titans didn't bode well, but he had found a few survivors, as few as they were. Most were Children that were able to hide more easily than adults while there were a few adults most seemed to be kids his nieces age, not even thirteen years old.
They didn't deserve to see these gruesome sights, so he began sheltering them. It wasn't before long he had a gaggle of some twenty three children and seven adults in his retinue, and food was being to get scarce. They couldn't afford the trek to Trost, not counting the hordes of titans that had entered they would have to travel on foot some hundred miles to reach the closest gate at Trost, and that's even if they would allow them in.
He knew that there were troublesome elements, some who would gladly watch others die to save their own hide. But he could do nothing else. Nothing at all, so he decided that if nothing else it would be better to die making an effort to escape than to do nothing at all. He had the other adults start packing supplies and they begrudgingly accepted. The thought of survival here rather tempting on their minds, though they no doubt wished to be safe behind an undestroyed wall.
It was a day like this, as he watched the kids play while awaiting his own death that he noticed Isolde wasn't here. He searched and searched the basement yet came up with the same gut wrenching discovery.
She was gone.
So he ventured out, searching for her, even using the few fumes he still had in his 3dm gear before something took his attention.
Lightning on a clear day.
It was only a few blocks over from the basement so he rushed forth, using just a tiny bit more gas to reach the strange phenomenon.
He had almost reached the place the bolt had struck before finally, he saw her. She was scratched up, but alive, that black turtleneck he had bought her was dirty and she was bleeding a little, but she was fine.
Setting down right infront of her he opened his arms as she came barreling towards him, hugging him tight. "I-I'm sorry for running away! I just wanted to find Mama!" she said as he rubbed the back of her head.
"It's alright, just don't do it again!" he said, barely concealing his anger. Looking down at her there was an ugly gash that went across her left eye, though from the look of it, it hadn't damaged her eye. "What happened?" He asked, looking at her, then left and right.
"Th-The Titans! They're fighting!" she said, almost contradictory to all that he knew of them. Titans didn't fight each other, they couldn't, they hadn't even the brain capacity to know how to fight.
But the walls seemed to prove him all wrong, as a Titan was sent reeling down the street adjacent to the one he was standing on, before another, much taller titan came barreling down, squashing it with its foot.
For a moment it turned its attention to him, before It started walking towards the inner gate.
This… This could be a chance.
Whatever this abnormal titan was, it most certainly didn't care for them. Although they couldn't trust it, it was attacking the other titans. That had to amount to something in the end, though they would be wary, this could be the ultimate opportunity to survive.
They had to get back to the basement.
"I don't have time to worry about if it's right or wrong, you can't have hope for a horror story with a happy ending!" -Eren Yeager
It was rather easy to swat titans when its one or two, its a different story when you're fighting three at the same time. 'Well… more two and a half' I thought as I punted the small four meter titan. I looked onward with a bated breath as it fell, impaled upon one of the spirals of one of the Pseudo-Churches.
I refuse to call that Cult a church after all.
Dodging to the left as another titan tried to eat my face, before tripping it and like many before it smashing it's nape in I had a few thoughts. Are there any real religions here in Paradis? Something real and tangible? Could this all be my living hell? Is anything real? Could I just be dreaming, moments away from my parents devouring me whole, to the amusement of the Marlayans?
Dark thoughts that do no good in a fight.
*CRUNCH*
I felt something bite my shin, as I looked it was a smaller titan, one that's legs hadn't quite healed. I had thought I crushed its nape, but whatever. Grabbing it by the head I swung it around, smacking a charging titan in the knees and knocking it over.
Cracking my neck I once more squished its nape as I tore the head of the smaller titan off before chucking it aside.
How many titans had I killed? I knew it to be plenty, maybe a good ten, fifteen? I knew I've been doing this for a hot minute, and it was beginning to get… tiring. I doubt there was many more in Shiganshina, I had already checked a good chunk of the streets after all, and I most certainly cannot see any heads peeking over any buildings.
Suddenly I could see something up ahead, a group of people running, chasing after them a ten meter class on all fours. The group was rather large, so how they weren't dead I could only assume divine luck on their part. Rushing forth I caught up to them in time to save at least one of them from being nabbed, before once more punting that titan off into the side of a building.
I looked back at the group, who looked at me momentarily in shock, though it was replaced by fear as the titan once more tried to claw at them. With an internal sigh I grabbed it by it's legs, yanking it back towards me as it tried to use it's momentum to knock my ass down. It succeeded to a point, biting me in my shoulder and clawing at my nape. For the barest of moments I could see light bleed through as the sound of my high pitched screams shook the very boundary of Shiganshina District.
I took and set my eyes on it's nape, and opening my jaws I bit down, hard. It wasn't quite like I expected, the flesh being like an over rare steak. The sounds of its flesh and muscles tearing were like music to my ears however, as it grew slack and stopped digging into my forms shoulders.
Turning my attention back to the group I could see them running out of the gates, out of Shingashina, and on a long, long road to hell.
Maybe they'll survive, maybe they won't, but what I do know is…
I'm tired.
" No! I don't want that!" - Eren "Soyboy" Yeager
One month later
It had been over a month since the Survey corps had been sent out to save humanity inside Maria. It had been mostly unsuccessful.
Although yes Nananba and her group had found many, many people on their near constant search they had found and seen many more dead. Mostly those poor souls already devoured and then puked up into bile sacks full of mangled rotting corpses.
What they found the most however were titans. Many she had seen were those she had seen on past expeditions, however many more… they were newer to her. Ones she hadn't encountered before.
It was vexing to her, they kill some only to have ten more pop up! All of her comrades she had watched die almost seem to die for nothing in the end. It's like the world itself hates and despises humanity, she swears.
"Hanchō! We have a situation up front!" she heard one of the other soldiers she was in command of say. Taking her attention to just bare north they saw a sight she couldn't believe.
The Titans were fighting and killing each other.
About five titans were trying to devour a fifteen meter tall titan. It was an Abnormal titan, with a crooked jaw and a stance that reeked of fighting. Although yes it's stance was way off, one could even see that it was at least someone of a stance. Definitely Abnormal. "Fire up a black flare and I want five of you to stay back with the wagon, to prevent anyone from being nabbed!" She said, before motioning for some of her men to follow her.
Quickly a flare rung up into the sky as her group broke from the main party, as they got closer it fighting was definitely coming to an end, the Abnormal was most certainly dead, it's body still being devoured by some of the larger abnormals, while the smaller ones..
The smaller ones were chasing a kid.
How he had survived as long as he had she couldn't know, but she would save him.
Her wire attached to one of the titans chasing the boy, a four meter class and in one fell swoop its nape was cut clean, another one of the, a five meter class tried to grab her and was quickly put down by one of her men.
The sounds of the two titans crashing to the ground took the attention of the three others, who hadn't a moment before they themselves were also put down like the dogs they were.
All in all it had to be one of the quicker and cleaner ops she's had in a while.
Setting down in front of the kid, she got a good look at him. From his black hair and blue eyes, as well as the strange marks around them, she stepped forth to introduce herself. "My names Nanaba, what about you, kid?" she asked, as he smiled. "I'm Wilhelm! Wilhelm Regenburg! Thanks for saving me there!" Wilhelm said, as she took note of the kid. He couldn't have been but thirteen years old, just barely old enough to start working in a field. Poor brat. They'll have to load him up with the rest of them though, and they're at least a good mile off from them, they'll have to right hard.
With a whistle she summoned her horse, Markel, who galloped to them quickly enough. "You'll have to right with me for now, at least until we catch up with the wagon. Then you can goin the other's we've collected." She said as he smiled. She had to help the kid up onto the horse, but besides that no problems.
It was times like this that she felt that Humanity always wins. Always.
I'm pretty tired so I will be quick and brief. This story, Into the Night is my baby now, at least for a few chapters and I get writers block and forget it exists like I did with the previous one in . Originally an Eren Yeager SI Personally I didn't like the SI's 'Tell all' Attitude and alot more and decided instead to change a few things in this story. First off things have been pushed back a few years. With the Warriors getting their powers later and the fall of Shiganshina beginning instead in 848, when the main crew is 13, and training officially beginning in 851. There are a few reasons for this. 1. I've got problems with people sexualising kids, which has happened on some thread on SB and QQ and 2. I don't think that pre-pubescents could actually survive that situation. So the bulk of the story shall happen when the characters are 18, though we've got a fair few chapters until then.
Now on questions of how and why Grisha returned to Shiganshina it's mostly because 1. I want the MC to have the Founder. Pretty obvious shit. 2. I want Eren to have a long and fruitful life. Expect him to have some plot armor and buffs seeing as he won't be Titaned up. 3. Grish returned due to the MC interfering in the future, hiding Eren and Mikasa from Grisha. At least that's my lazy ass excuse.
I might update again in this week, but it'll likely be next tuesday that I post another chapter.
