Link, due to the sudden nature of the attack on Kara Kara, had only taken time to build one automated turret. Due to his machines being wholly inadequate for the hives, Link had gotten a faraway look in his eyes and muttered something about lightning rods and efficiency. He asked all sorts of questions about the Gibdos attacks too. In his opinion, retreating to the underground shelter with ready water channels had been pretty genius. Natural cooling, ready source of water close by, and a barrier to a clumsy Gibdos trying to step in if they ever found the shelter.

Link considered the options for defending now that they had some prep time. He had a sketch of some weapon he was working on. Link groaned, "...I knew I should have grabbed my tools from the tech labs." Link grasped the sturdy stick/improvised crowbar firmly in hand and jammed it back into the side of a shock emitter. Rauru covered his eyes. "Link, ev enify ouc angett hato penit willp robabl yelect rocut eyou!" Link shrugged and left the emitter alone for now. The Gerudo would put it to good use.

"What for, Link?"

"Well, I have Ultrahand for a lot of stuff, but to make things for your lightning magic we need more specialized work. Even if I had my toolbox, I don't think we have time to build this design. I have a few extra Zonai devices on hand..." Link's mouth twitched into a grin. "How comfortable are your gate guards with new toys?"

Buliara narrowed her eyes. "I try to teach my new recruits to use a variety of weapons and tools. Are you planning to build more cannons?"

"Something like that," Link said. He flicked open the inventory on the Purah Pad. "I'll be back soon."

Riju turned to Buliara as Link darted off to do Hylia-only-knows what. The women had sent a couple of guards to assist Link in setting the defenses up. (Really their main objective was making sure he did not go overboard.) "Hey, Buliara... It seems like Link has something on his mind?"

"Hmmm. I would say he at least is feeling guilty about not having found Zelda yet. He seems to be distracting himself by helping protect Hyrule from the monsters at least."

Sounds of dismay echoed from wherever Link went. It was easy to track him by the sounds and also the occasional object floating above the rooftops.

"Is it just me, or are you also worried about the look he got when we told him how few cannons we had?"

"It is not just you. While we did instruct him to not build anything that might hurt us, he is Link. I'm not certain we will ever really understand him. At least we got him to leave his pet outside."

Buster VI was outside the walls, caged, and snarling at anyone that got close to the bars. The thing seemed to like to cling to the ceiling of the sturdy construction as if even the meager sand-filtered light was offensive to the thing. They wanted to have an accident happen to it, but Link would likely take time to cage a different Gibdos.

Plus, they had to admit, it was amusing watching one of their hated tormentors flying in Link's experiments. One of the women giving the cage a wary look saw Link grab the cage. She continued to look on warily as he dragged it back into town. He merrily yelled "Who wants a demonstration of the spring repeller!?"

Minutes later, Link let his newly trained operator have a chance to push the button. This was evidenced by the sudden brownish blur of Buster VI zooming out the gates and slamming down some distance away. Link noted the trajectory and added a few things at the end of the flight path.

Riju called orders to her fighters to stay alert in the battle. They found that some officers were having to order soldiers to stop having too much fun with devices and just kill the darn monsters already. When they looked up to the sky to see flying Gibdos, a message was quickly relayed to Link.

Link looked up from his work, pulled a lever, and basked in the artificial rainfall that soaked everything. He knew that hydrant irrigation sprinkler was going to come in handy, he just hadn't considered it as a weapon before today. Moth Gibdos tried to fly away, but the massive spinning hydrant and wheel array gave no mercy or easy retreat. Link moved a soldier spear ninety degrees to the left and shot a dazzzle fruit up into the sky. Several women pressed buttons to stop the sprinkler system as another pair threw a chain at a hive. They then yelled back, "Connection ready!"

Riju electrocuted the lines of chain, decayed weapons, and water puddles to take out the hive. They then repeated this process for each hive that popped up above the sand. Link stayed by his workbench the entire time trying to pry open the shock emitter.

The Yiga footsoldier stationed at the dueling peaks, let's call him Dan, started to get bored. It has been a long day of waiting in a cage while disguised as Zelda. Dan looked around. He had to admit, it was a fair bit of a climb to get to this spot. Link would probably be the only Hylian that might come up here on a lark. He'd call out "Link, help me!," every now and then. There wasn't any response.

He was surprised to hear hooves. How would a horse end up here? Must be one of the new guys practicing disguises.

"Look, Bob, that's a fantastic disguise, but you are in entirely the wrong spot for a horse."

Epona gave Dan a bland look.

"Bob, wait, are you thinking we lure the hero in by pretending to be his horse? I guess that could work, but what if he tries to jump on?...Eh, he's probably not coming today. Maybe we should send a ransom note. I bet if we give it to that Gazette he'll hear about it." Dan teleported out of the cage to take a banana break. Epona trotted to his side and took note of the positioning.

"Well, you sure are quiet today... How did you even manage to smell like a horse?" Epona's hoof dug into his stomach. "-AWK!" said Dan the Yiga. Dan went down over the cliff like Hagie had days ago. Other cultists appeared but were unsuccessful in stopping her wrath.

The screaming of several footsoldiers being introduced to the downside of gravity echoed between the peaks as Epona's kicks landed. Penn slowed down mid-flight and glided down to see a horse in an impossible spot. She looked incredibly smug for a horse.

I am not as creative or good at writing engineers as Marvel, but if I were, Link would absolutely be pulling stunts similar to what Rocket Raccoon would with traps. We'll just settle for a city-wide sprinkler system.

Do not ask how Epona got to the spot for the "Princess Zelda Kidnapped" quest. She's Epona and I didn't want to patch that plot hole.
