Chapter 4: Walker:

Nancy's POV:

We were all at Pop Tate's.

"I was at the police station and guess what," says Ned, "a Ranger's coming."

"Like a Power Ranger," asks Shawn.

"That's my bad," says Ned, "I meant a Texas Ranger."

"I think that might be him," says George.

We saw the Ranger. He entered and started asking Pop questions.

I decided to listen in, but then he turned around. "Can I help you?"

"UUUUUUUUUhhhhhhhhh... hi, I'm Nancy Drew and I'm a detective."

"Cordell Walker and I'm on serious business."

Walker then goes back to talking to Pop.

. . .

My friends and I were walking when we saw a circus was in town.

"Hello, I'm Ringmaster Kroon and I hope you'll be seeing my show!"

"It could be fun," I said.

"Great, because we really bring the house down," says Kroon. I then saw Walker. He looked at the circus.

. . .

Later, we saw the show.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," says Kroon, "are you ready for the big show!"

There were clowns, animal acts, acrobats, and other things you'd see in a circus. Then someone ruined the show. I looked and saw it was Wilbur Wilkin. That jerk messed with the show.

. . .

After the show, I was walking when I saw something in a dumpster. It was Wilkin... and he was dead.

. . .

"I don't know what happened," says Kroon, "I'm innocent, I tell you!"

"Well, unfortunately, we don't have the evidence," says my Dad.

"I've been set up," says Kroon.

I then looked in the dumpster and I found something. It looked like a throwing knife. I then remembered I saw that clown with it. "Hey, what about this," I asked.

"That belongs to Pietro," says Kroon.

"Well, maybe we can talk to him," says my Dad.

. . .

Strangest frame-up ever. Everyone knows, you don't leave proof you're framing someone. Something doesn't seem right.

"Miss Drew," it was Walker.

"Can I help you," I asked.

"Do you realize an innocent clown might get locked up," asks Walker.

"I knew it," I said, "no one would be dumb enough to leave a clue if they're trying to frame someone! Wait, then who did frame Kroon?"

"That's the thing," says Walker, "no one framed Kroon."

"And what makes you think that," I asked.

"Because he killed my wife!"

. . .

Walker and I were at Pop Tate's.

"So, let me see if I can get this straight," I said, "the guy who's been set up... is the real culprit?"

"It's how Kroon works," says Walker, "he commits a crime and then makes it look like he's been framed. That Wilkin boy ruined his show, so Kroon wanted revenge and he put the blame on Pietro."

"And he killed your wife," I asked.

"Emily Walker," says Walker, "she saw Kroon stealing jewels, so he got rid of her and made it look like her best friend, Geri Broussard framed him."

"Framing someone for framing you," I said, "I'm not gonna lie, that's clever."

"And I'm going to finally bring this guy down," says Walker.

"So, what can I do," I asked.

"You can tell his lawyer, your dad what I told you," says Walker.

"Okay, sure," I said.

. . .

I told my Dad what I learned.

"Unfortunately, I have to acknowledge both stories," says my Dad, "you have to admit, a double frame-up does sound a little hard to believe."

"And a killer clown sounds a little cliché," I said.

"Good point," says my Dad.

I feel like I should be helping Walker.

. . .

I was at the circus. Then Walker catches me.

"What are you doing here," asks Walker.

"I told you," I said, "I'm a detective."

"How old are you," asks Walker.

Then something knocks us out.

. . .

I woke up and saw that Walker and I were in a cage.

"You're awake," says Kroon.

"We know about your scam," I said.

"Oh, I'm so scared," says Kroon, "too bad that won't matter when the lions eat you!"

I turned around and saw the lions. That would be a problem.

"Have fun," says Kroon.

The lions were about to attack, but then the strangest thing happened. Something was calming then down.

"What was that," asks Walker.

"I think it was Dead Lucy," I said. Walker looks at me. "Don't ask." Walker then finds the key.

. . .

Walker and I were looking for Kroon. I then saw him, and he was on the phone. "Turns out, we were wrong," says Kroon, "that ranger from Texas framed me and Pietro! And he plans to frame me for the murder of your daughter! Get the police over here!" Kroon then hangs up and attempts to attack me.

"Why can't you just bury the evidence like a normal criminal," I asked.

"Excuse me for trying to not end up in jail," says Kroon.

He tries to hit me with a cane, but Walker grabs it and knocks him out.

. . .

Walker reveals he had Kroon's attempt to feed us to the lions recorded.

"Anything you'd like to say," asks Sheriff Keller.

"I... was framed?"

Kroon was then taken in.

. . .

"Well, your wife's been avenged," I said.

"I can't wait to tell my kids," says Walker, "when I get back to Texas. Thanks Nancy."

"Hey, you're the one who thought of the tape recorder thing," I said, "see ya around, Ranger." Walker then walks away.

There was still one thing I don't understand... why did Dead Lucy help us?

In the next chapter, Nancy meets the Green Arrow.
