Chapter 14: Mothman:

Nancy's POV:

We were all listening to Laura's stories about the Mothman.

"Some say he might be an alien," says Laura, "which I guess at this point wouldn't be that big a deal, but that's not important. The Mothman comes out to find his next victim, for he is always hungry!"

"I got a question," says George, "how do we know it's really a man, could be a mothwoman."

"I didn't think of that," says Laura, "but another legend says he's the one who killed Lucy."

"If you actually believe in this," says Bess, "I think the Mothman's as real as..."

"Thor, Superman, Wonder Woman, those ten alien superheroes, the Flex Fighters, you want me to continue," I asked.

"Never mind," says Bess.

"Nancy, maybe you can solve the mystery of the Mothman," Shaun suggests.

"Maybe I can," I said.

"Good luck with that," says Reggie, "many have tried. This one guy, Tommy Turner tried, but he was never seen again..."

"You mean..." I began.

"... because he moved..."

"Oh," I said.

"... to Heaven..."

"You mean..."

"... Heavensburg, a nice town in Colorado." I stare at him. "That's it. There's no more misdirecting clarifications."

"Yeah... you should really start with Heavensburg first when you talk about Tommy Turner," I said.

. . .

I then talked to Laura.

"So, have there been Mothman sightings," I asked.

"Well, the last time anyone's seen the Mothman was at Fox Forest," says Laura, "good luck."

. . .

My crew and I were investigating Fox Forest. "I think it might be too dangerous for you, Shaun," I said.

"Nancy, what isn't too dangerous in this town," asks Shaun, "did you not notice there have been killers, stalkers, and kidnappers?"

"Good point," I said.

We then searched the forest. "Hey, what are you doing here," asks Ramon Ramirez.

"We're looking for the Mothman," I said.

"Assuming it is a man," says George.

"Well, maybe I can help," says Ramon, "I did find something weird. Follow me."

. . .

Ramon then took us to an area where there are rocks that look like Stone Henge.

"I call this place Rock Henge, but that's because Stone Henge was taken," says Ramon, "anyway, someone dropped this necklace."

It had the initials 'LM' on it.

. . .

We were back at Pop's.

"Maybe it's an alphabet thing," says Shaun.

"Or maybe it's Larry Moe," says Ned.

"You guys aren't helping," says George.

"So, you're the ones who took my necklace," says Linda Moore. She grabs it. Linda Moore's not a nice person.

"We found it in Fox Forest," I said.

"I... might have been there, but... it's none of your business!" Linda then walks away. Interesting.

. . .

I secretly followed Linda. Maybe George was right, it may not really be a mothman.

. . .

I lost her in the Fox Forest. I then saw the Mothman. It was like... well... a giant bub... obviously. I tried to be sneaky. The Mothman then removes its head... and it's Linda Moore!

. . .

The police took Linda in. "It wasn't me," says Linda, "I've been set up!"

. . .

I visited Linda in jail.

"So, how are you," I asked.

"Oh, I'm fine," says Linda, "SINCE YOU FRAMED ME!"

"What," I asked, "I saw you in that moth costume!"

"I woke up in it," says Linda, "and you stole my necklace and somehow put me in that suit!"

"Why would I do that," I asked, "I found the necklace and found you in the costume!"

"Fine, I guess what you said makes more sense," says Linda, "but how did you find my necklace?"

"I was guided to it..." I then realized. You notice a pattern? If someone points out a potential suspect... it usually means they, did it.

. . .

I secretly followed Ramon into the forest. He had a secret hideout at Rock Henge. He brought in food. He then left. I decided to enter.

. . .

I saw people, like the ones the Mothman has kidnapped. "Ramon Ramirez is the Mothman!"

. . .

I exited and saw Ramon.

"I don't suppose you have an explanation," I said.

"It all started with Laurie Lake," says Ramon, "she was choking or looks like she's being choke by some invisible force, so I tried to help her, but I messed up and... and that was it."

"You killed her," I asked.

"It was an accident, but I knew no one would believe me," says Ramon, "so I had to create the Mothman! I told people the Mothman did it! Since then, they've been making up different rumors, like the Mothman killed Lucy Sables!"

"And you're not old enough to have done it," I said.

"I don't know what happened to Lucy, but I know that it wasn't the Mothman. I then had to keep kidnapping people to keep the legend alive. But then I realized that eventually, someone will catch me and unmask me..."

"So, you created a scapegoat," I said.

"Linda Moore has been in this forest enough times," says Ramon, "don't you see, I had to do all of this!"

"You need help," I said, "I can..."

"No, you're going to put me in jail," says Ramon, "I CAN'T GO TO JAIL!"

Ramon runs and I had to chase him, but he's fast. I needed a plan. I then realized there was another way to catch him.

Ramon's POV:

I ran, but then something blocked my path. It was the Mothman. But that's impossible, I invented the Mothman. The Mothman doesn't exist! I then fell to the ground and the Mothman approached me.

Nancy's POV:

By wearing Ramon's moth suit, I was able to stop Ramon. He's going to get some much-needed help. I feel sorry for him. I then saw Linda. "I'm really sorry," I said.

"You think I'm going to forgive you just like that," says Linda, "I'll get you for this!"

She walks away. "She is awful," says Bess.

"Can't we put her back in jail," asks George.

"As tempting as it is, we can't," I said, "there's one thing I don't get, why does she go in the forest."

"I know why," says Shaun, "to get away from her troubles."

"What do you mean," I asked.

"She has a crush on Reggie, but Reggie's with Cheryl," says Shaun, "so she hates Cheryl."

"She's got her own problems," says Ned.

This town is a soap opera.

If it wasn't the Mothman who killed Lucy Sables than who did and why? In the next chapter, Nancy meets Tiffany Hudson.
