Chapter 19: The Lady of Larkspur Lane:
Nancy's POV:
So, everyone thinks my Dad killed Lucy and now I have to find a way to clear his name. I'm talking to Sabrina.
"There is someone that can help," says Sabrina.
"Who," I asked.
"Lucy's Mother, Patrice," says Sabrina.
"Great, where is she?"
"Larkspur Lane," says Sabrina.
"And where's that," I asked.
"It's an asylum," says Sabrina, "Patrice has been there since Lucy's death."
"Oh boy," I said.
"Yeah," says Sabrina.
. . .
I then talked to my crew.
"So, Patrice is a psycho," asks Shaun.
"No, she's just still dealing with things," I said.
"Okay, but if she's crazy..." Shaun begins.
"Wouldn't you have mental problems if your kid died," asks Ned.
"We just go to the asylum and talk to Patrice," I said.
"I heard it's haunted by the spirits of the family who died there in the 1870s," says Bess.
"You sure you want to do this," asks George.
"My Dad is in jail," I said.
"Yeah, we're doing this," says George.
. . .
The best way to get in the asylum is to break in, so we're going to do that. We just need someone to distract the guard.
Shaun's POV:
I'm scaring the guard by pretending to be a ghost.
Nancy's POV:
While my brother is distracting the guard, we're looking for Patrice Sables.
"Anyone find anything," I asked.
"Well, I found a man who says there was a freaky crisis that destroyed the Multiverse, but then seven heroes fixed it," says Ned.
"Does he have a name," asks George.
"Roger Hayden," says Ned.
"That figures," says Bess.
"Let's keep moving," I said.
. . .
We decided to split up. It might be risky, but we have to take that risk.
Carson's POV:
I was eating with Ramon Ramirez.
"Are you sure you want to do this," asks Ramon, "I'm not that different from them."
"Yes, you are," I said, "they choose to kill people, you were just scared."
"They have plans you know," says Ramon, "I think they're coming after you."
"I expect as much," I said, "I'm not afraid of them."
"Mr. Drew, did you really kill Lucy," asks Ramon.
"No... no."
Nancy's POV:
I was searching through the halls. I thought I heard something. I looked, but it was nothing. I guess it was my imagination. I then found a door. It said, 'P. Sables'. Jackpot!
. . .
I entered the room and I saw Patrice.
"Lucy? Is that you?"
She thinks I'm her daughter. "Hey Mom."
"You're so young," says Patrice, "and forgive me for saying this, but you're supposed to be dead."
"Right, because Carson Drew killed me?"
"You know it couldn't have been him!"
"I guess I forgot, remind me, please?"
"I wish I knew. My memory hasn't been what it used to be, but I know that Carson Drew couldn't have done it!"
"Well, do you have anything someone could use to prove it."
"Well... there is something you can use... find the Thin Man's Book!"
"The Thin Man's Book?"
"Yes, but there... is..." And she fell asleep. Poor thing.
. . .
I then left the room and I found myself suddenly feeling scared. I then looked and saw it was none other than the mutated and deformed undead looking Scarecrow!
"I thought Batwoman took you back to Gotham," I said.
Scarecrow approached me, so I had to run.
. . .
I called the others. "Guys, Scarecrow's in the asylum," I said.
"What? Shouldn't he be in Arkham," asks Ned.
"Maybe it's a transfer thing," says Bess.
"Nancy, remember to avoid smelling his breath," says George.
If you smell Scarecrow's breath, you end up afraid of everything. I then heard his footsteps. I had to run again.
. . .
Now I'm in the operating room. I locked the door. I need to think, how do you beat... a scarecrow! First thing's first, I had to find what I need.
. . .
I got what I needed, and I waited for the Scarecrow. He was attempting to break through the door.
"Bring it on, Feathertop," I said. The Scarecrow breaks through the door and walks towards me. "Well, if it isn't Professor Jonathan Crane. Expert in fear. I just have one question for you, are you afraid of fire, Scarecrow?" I then lit a match and threw it at him. He was now on fire and before I left the room, I turned on the gas.
I left the room and there was an explosion behind me.
. . .
I regrouped with the others.
"You blew up an operating room," asks George.
"You know how much trouble you could get in," asks Ned.
"It was either the operating room or me," I said.
"I just hope that's the last we've seen of that zombie mutant," says Bess.
"I wanna know how he got there..." I then realized something. "Someone's trying to keep me from finding anything out!"
. . .
We went to the library to see if we can find anything out.
"And she fell asleep before she can tell you anything else about the Thin Man's Book," asks Ned.
"Yeah, I know," I said.
"It could be any one of these books," says Bess.
"I'm going to try the mystery section," I said.
. . .
I was in the mystery section when I ran into the guard Shaun was supposed to be distracting.
"Your brother told an interesting ghost story," he says, "I have one too, ever heard of the Whisper Box?"
He then opens a box, and it sucked me up.
In the next chapter, Nancy finds herself in a strange new reality.
