Izuku Midoriya was pissed. Akatani won his match, it wasn't even a fight, he just pushed a purple kid a few times and won. Now he didn't have a story. He didn't want to write anything praising Akatani, he'll throw up.
He locked those emotions away, he'll have plenty of time to take them out on him. Maybe he'll cut off his legs and arms, slowly torturing him to death. He was getting excited just thinking about it.
The rest of the class was cheering, except for Kaachan, who knew how to recognize trash.
"Hey, man." Kirishima, who sat to his left, elbowed him lightly. "You should write a story on that." He pointed.
Izuku looked over and saw Akatani talking to the purple kid. They walked away together, they were friends now. That's an article begging to be made, if he didn't write it someone will suspect something. He had no choice.
Akatani returned, greeted the class, and sat to Izuku's right. He moved slightly left. "Who's your new friend?"
"Hitoshi Shinso, he wants to be a hero so I offered to train him. I called Snipe and he said he'll consider it."
"Why did you? He has a quirk." They said something about a magic voice, he wasn't paying much attention.
"That doesn't matter. I didn't choose to help you because you're quirkless. It was because you wanted to be a hero. Why don't you know this?"
"Oh, right. Sorry." He kept forgetting, heroes try to save everyone, not just people like them.
"It's alright."
Izuku was excited for the next fight, it had Todoroki, the kid of the number 2 hero, fighting some guy with tape. It was going to be a slaughter. Todoroki was on the far side of the arena when it started.
The tape guy wrapped his opponent and flung him. This lasted for whole seconds before it got frozen. Then a large glacier formed, trapping the tape guy. It was big enough to hang over half of the arena and stands. Izuku felt the air freeze in seconds, even his breath was getting foggy, it was magnificent.
"Holy crap, that's insane." He didn't know who said it, but he agreed wholeheartedly.
There was a short break before the next match. Izuku left the stands and went to use the restroom, it was very needed.
He was washing his hands when Kaachan walked in, he had his usual angry look. He closed the door and locked it. "Hey, dipshit. I thought I told you not to let me see you again." He knew this was coming.
"Kaachan, hello. I know you're mad, but I ran into Akatani and took the opportunity for more interviews."
"Tell me something I don't know." It was this game, he only did it when he wanted to remind Izuku of his place.
"I'm worthless."
"I said something I don't know."
"You're the best." Kaachan raised his eyebrows. "I'm a failure, a completely worthless piece of trash, just a pebble in your path." He couldn't come up with anything else, it was the only thing he could think of when he saw Kaachan.
"Too bad." Kaachan grabbed his wrist, rolled up the sleeve, and burned the bare skin. He strained to keep from screaming, he didn't want his other wrist burned. "You lost again." He let go, and Izuku squeezed his hand, he had to keep the pain in. "Deal with the burns before coming back. I don't want people thinking we're together." He unlocked the door and left. Classic Kaachan, thinking of everything. He was so considerate.
He moved to the sink, putting the burn under cold water. He covered it in his sleeve and left after twenty minutes.
He walked through the halls. He didn't need to see the next few matches, he wasn't interested in them. If he needed to, he could watch them online.
He wanted to talk to Endeavor, his son only used ice in his match and Izuku wanted a comment. He was a fire user and had such a bad temper that he had more videos online of him screaming than words spoken in interviews. That's why while being significantly less popular, he gets more interview requests than All Might. Everybody hopes to be the next reporter to get a screaming celebrity on the tabloids.
He made his way around the circular halls. He saw Endeavor leave the stands and was heading to where he believed he was. He turned a corner and saw Endeavor's back, he began to take out his notepad. He opened his mouth to speak.
"Akatani, I want you to make my son use his fire." Endeavor speaking shocked him and he hid behind the corner. He stuck his ear out to hear. "I've been trying to make him use that power for years, but he's still defiant. He might listen to you, someone who never had the advantages he had."
"No." Akatani's answer was immediate and blunt. "I won't make him use that power. I'm trying to win, him handicapping himself would just help me. Before you say anything, I won't do it if you pay me, offer me a job, or threaten me in some way. One more thing, I was also trained by a pro hero, so that thing about opportunities was a lie. Sure, he has a strong quirk, but that doesn't mean anything to me. I'm not becoming a pawn in your family's dysfunction." Izuku quickly took note of what he heard.
"Fine." Endeavor left, walking past Izuku. He didn't spare him a glance. Izuku almost squealed, he was less than a foot from the number two hero!
"Izuku, what are you doing here?" Oh yeah, Akatani.
"I was going to the bathroom and got lost." Please believe him.
"This is the bottom floor." Crap.
"I got really lost."
Akatani laughed, yes, it was definitely a joke. "You're pretty funny." This slightly pissed him off, what is he, a clown? That jerk was making fun of him. "Let's get back to our seats."
He smiled. "Yeah, let's go." He squeezed his hand tighter.
The next few matches sucked, he barely paid attention. Then Kaachan was called up with Uraraka. He didn't want to seem rude, but she's getting destroyed. He's sure she's strong, but her opponent is Kaachan.
"And here we have the eighth matchup!" The announcer was Present Mic, pro hero. "The first competitor is Katsuki Bakugo, and the other fighter is, the one I'm rooting for, Ochaco Uraraka!" Izuku rolled his eyes, impartial much? "Go!"
Uraraka ran in, she had anti-gravity fingers, and her shot at winning was touching Kaachan and making him float away. Izuku learned everyone's quirks in the interviews, it was a required question for some reason.
Kaachan, in all his greatness, exploded her, sending her back several feet. She kept up the assault. The explosions kept going, but she never got close.
The crowd was getting restless, the fight was more one-sided than they liked. "Hey, stop picking on the girl!" The crowd was yelling at Kaachan. They were very annoying. They wanted him to go easy on her. They were trying to be heroes, if they don't go all out they'll never get stronger. Izuku wished he could scream loud enough to tell them off.
Good thing Eraserhead had a microphone. "Everyone stop!" The crowd quieted down. "You, the guy in blue." The man he addressed, who was in a phony hero costume, stood up. "Are you a hero, have you ever seen a fight, or even been outside? Both of them are trying their best to be heroes. Bakugo is going all out because he recognizes her as a threat. It would be a disservice to her not to. If you are a hero, I recommend going home, maybe even hanging up the cape."
Eraserhead was not one of Izuku's favorite heroes, he's not flashy and doesn't get many arrests, but his quirk is amazing. He looks at someone and they can't use their quirk until he blinks. He was an above-average hero, in the top 300.
The man sat down and the fight continued. Uraraka kept trying to touch him and getting blown away. A smoke screen surrounded them. Uraraka backed away.
The smoke settled, revealing a sky filled with debris. Uraraka put her fingers together, and they started falling. She then started running to her opponent.
Kaachan put his hand in the air and made a massive explosion. It destroyed the rocks in the air, and it caused a shockwave of warm air to hit Izuku. He felt the burn on his arm get worse.
Uraraka slowly got up, she was stronger than Izuku thought. He was excited to see where this was going. She passed out a second later. Kaachan was named the winner. He didn't cheer, people might think they're friends and he didn't want to risk being burned again. Nobody he was sitting with was cheering, they were rooting for Uraraka.
"Wow, that was so not manly." Kirishima was being an idiot. Maybe his fight gave him a concussion. "He didn't have to go all out against a girl." Did he listen to Eraserhead at all?
Uraraka was carted away. Kirishima stood up, "It's time for my rematch. See ya." He left.
Akatani got up. "I'm up after him." He followed the red-haired teen.
Izuku contemplated getting up, but he didn't. Kirishima was about to arm-wrestle some guy with the same quirk. This could be interesting.
