It was late in the afternoon at Duel Academy. While this is usually the time of the day where the students enjoy their free time either dueling or relaxing, a red haired girl by the name of Akane is standing just outside the main building.

The reason why she's standing there? She's waiting for a certain somebody. With each second that passes by, she's finding herself more nervous.

"Akane?"

Before she knew it, the boy that she had a crush on for quite some time was standing right in front of her. Her heart felt like it was beating a million times a minute.

Everything about this boy is just perfect. His perfectly long, flowing hair. His perfectly shaped eyes. His muscles that she knows he's hiding.

Perfect doesn't even begin to describe Chumley Huffington AKA 'The Legend.' One of the very best the Obelisk Blue dorm has to offer.

She then bows her head. "I'm sorry for sending you that note asking you to come here…

I just want to tell you that… I saw you duel with that Ra Yellow student last month… And since then, I thought you were really… cool.

Please, go out with me!"

At first, Chumley didn't say anything. Adding onto the tension. He then broke the silence by giving a light chuckle.

"Sorry, Akane… Anybody would be lucky to have you for a girlfriend, but I am just WAYYY too busy to think about dating right now…"

Akane looked at Chumley, not believing what she had just heard. "Huh?"

He continues. "Like… even if I showed you my schedule, you wouldn't believe it. I barely have enough time to take care of myself, let alone a girlfriend.

You should find somebody who's able to make time for you, but that somebody isn't me."

It was then that he heard a voice call out to him. "Hey Chumley! How much longer are you planning to speak with her!? Come on! They're not going to be very impressed if you don't log in on time!"

The voice belonged to Jaden Yuki, an Obelisk Blue who is every bit as talented if not more than Chumley is. Accompanying him is Syrus Truedale, completing the Obelisk Power Trio.

Chumley looks back at her. "I really gotta get going. I hope you understand why I had to turn you down. It's through no fault of your own."

He then gives her a final nod before going on his own way. Off to complete more work late into the night.

Accepting his decision, she goes on her own way. The two of them just weren't meant to be. Maybe one day, when things are different, she'll find somebody who can make time for her.

The Next Day…

"Hey, batter batter! Hey, batter batter swing! I've got to just do my thing! Hey, batter batter! Hey, batter batter swing!"

"CHAZZ! Shut the hell up!" Zane shouts at his friend as he's standing in the batting area. It's baseball week at Gym class and he's trying to get himself into 'The Zone.'

"I can't concentrate with you singing that dumb song!"

"No excuses, man!" Chazz argues back. "The best athletes work AROUND the sound!"

Meanwhile, Dr. Yamada was making his way across the gym. Singing to himself a song that's been stuck in his head for a while.

"Believe in yourself… Fly high enough. So you will get the great future… Open both your-AAAHH!"

It came from out of nowhere. Zane had hit the ball coming his way so hard, it flew and drilled Yamada straight in the face.

"Ahhh… fuck." Zane gently puts the bat down on the ground. "I'm more of an athlete than I thought."

It's a good thing he's a student at Duel Academy. Where conflicts are resolved by dueling. Which just leaves him with one question. Who exactly will he be dueling?

"Tardiness is something that won't be tolerated in my class, Huffington!"

As much as Chumley wanted to complain, he knew it would fall on deaf ears. He can sleep as long as he wants to at any time. He just simply chooses not to.

"I'll make it up to you in any way I can, Professor Kazami!"

"Hmm." Professor Kazami scratches his chin. "You're the top student in my class… So I believe it's up to you to set an example for everybody else. There's somebody we'd like to arrange to duel with you. If you win, you're allowed to be ten minutes tardy for the rest of the year. Now isn't that a privilege worth working for?"

Chumley bows his head. "Yes sir. Absolutely sir. Thank you for this opportunity sir."

"Excellent." The professor smiles at his student. "I shall inform Dr. Yamada about this arrangement. In all likelihood, he'll say yes."

The next morning, with the duel arranged at the arena, Dr. Yamada raises his hand up in the air.

"The terms of this duel are simple. Whoever loses will face appropriate disciplinary action in the form of a five page, single-spaced essay!

Representing Obelisk Blue is Chumley Huffington, also known as, The Legend!"

Cheering his friend on, Jaden began clapping his hands. "The Slifer Slacker's got nothing on you, Chumley! Just wrap this up quickly so we can get back to work!"

Syrus simply crosses his arms. He spoke in a stoic tone. "Zane is embarrassing himself… and me!"

"And now… representing Slifer Red is Zane Truesdale… And I understand that people are beginning to call him… Hell Kaiser?"

Zane then facepalms after hearing his new nickname. "Bastion! Is that the reason why you told me to wear black today?! And just what kind of name is Hell Kaiser, anyway?!"

"It's the coolest name I could think of!" Bastion defends himself. "I'm willing to bet everybody is shaking in their shoes right now!"

Syrus then shouts at him. "There's a difference between HAVING a title and OWNING it! Just so you know!"

Now it's Jaden's turn to speak. "And our friend here knows how to own his! He'll end this duel before any of you know what's happening!"

Zane activates his duel disk. "Well… while we get into it… It's not going to matter WHAT our names are! I'll just let my cards speak out for me!"

Chumley activates his duel disk. "Well then… Hell Kaiser… I'll show you why everybody calls me, 'The Legend.'"

DUEL

The Legend - 8000 LP

VS

Hell Kaiser - 8000 LP

"I'll start this duel off… ORE NO TURN!" Chumley drew his starting hand.

Zane, on the other hand, went wide-eyed as he looked at his five cards.

Yellow Gadget, Machina Cannon, Perfect Machine King, Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon, and Desperado Barrel Dragon. One of the worst hands his deck could give him.

"Don't panic, Zane. Don't panic." He thought to himself. "Maybe it won't be all that bad. After all, just how good could this guy be?"

Chumley continues. "For my first move… I'm gonna summon Witch of the Black Forest! (ATK: 1100)"

"Wow." Said Zane in amazement. "That card is older than I am."

"She's not going to stay on the field for long!" Said Chumley. "I activate a monster effect in my hand! Sending my Witch to the graveyard so I can summon…"

Zane stood with his mouth hanging wide open as he couldn't help but admire the beautiful monster that Chumley had just summoned. There are just simply no words to accurately describe her in her entirety.

"SILENT MAGICIAN! (ATK: 3000) And now that Witch of the Black Forest has been sent to the graveyard, I can activate her effect! Allowing me to fetch Knightmare Corruptor Iblee from my deck! Increasing my Magician's attack points by another 500!

That's going to be all from me! Go ahead!"

"3500 attack points!? I gotta get rid of that thing!" "I DRAW!" Zane looks at his new card. "Perfect! I summon Silver Gadget! (ATK: 1500) And now I use its effect!"

"That's 10 million percent not going to happen!" Chumley shouted. "I activate the special ability of my Effect Veiler from my hand! Negating your gadget's effect!"

"Damn!" Zane scratches his head. "Well, you got me good there. I have nothing else I can do. I end my turn."

"I'll now demonstrate the difference between us, Hell Kaiser! ORE NO TURN! DRAW!"

"Oh man… He looks so cool speaking Japanese." Thought Zane.

"I normal summon Iblee!" Iblee appears next to Silent Magician. "But she won't be staying for long, because I'm going to link summon using her as material!"

Iblee disappears only for a single red arrow to illuminate. Signaling that a link monster is about to be summoned. "Salmangreat Almiraj! (ATK: 0)"

Zane squints his eyes. Trying to get a better look at the monster. "What is that card? It only has zero attack points."

"Iblee's effect activates in the graveyard!" Chumley continues. "She'll now be special summoned to your field! And while she's on your field, you cannot special summon monsters that aren't links!"

"WAIT WHAT!?" Zane shouted in disbelief as Chumley's monster appears on his field. She then looks back at him and pulls down her lower eyelid while sticking out her tongue. "Annnd she's rubbing salt on my wound."

"Blast it!" Bastion said in anger. "If only I knew of a way we could work around this handicap! Hell Kaiser is right where the legend wants him!"

Meanwhile, Syrus took a deep breath. "It's not your fault, bro. You were just simply unprepared to handle a situation like this."

It was then that he heard a voice call out to him. A feminine one. "Man, your brother sure is a pushover, isn't he, Syrus?"

Syrus looks over to see a random girl who has invested herself in the duel like he has. Only for a different reason, he can conclude. "Can I… help you with something?"

"Oh, my name is Missy Murphy!" Missy extends her hand out to him. "I'm a second-year."

"Good for you." Syrus looks away. "Now can I get back to watching?"

"And now Missy's here too!? Oh come on!" Zane is resisting the urge to hit himself in the head.

"It's still my turn, slacker!" Chumley yells at him. "Since I control a link monster, I can special summon Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous from my hand! (DEF: 1500) And when Ecclesia's summoned, I can add from my deck the continuous spell card: Dogmatikamatrix!

I'll now activate Dogmatikamatrix! Allowing me to add to my hand, the ritual spell card, Dogmatikalamity, and Dogmatika Alba Zoa from my deck!"

"You're going to ritual summon!?" Asked Zane.

Chumley smiles. "Yes… Dogmatikalamity has this perk to it… I can send a Level 12 monster from my extra deck to the graveyard to ritual summon Alba Zoa!" "WHAT!?"

Chumley sends a monster to the graveyard. "By sending Transendosaurus Glaciasaurus to the graveyard, I ritual summon Dogmatika Alba Zoa! (DEF: 4000) And now that Alba Zoa has been summoned, you must automatically send seven monsters from your extra deck to the graveyard!"

There were fifteen cards in Zane's extra deck overall. But there were cards in there that he never used. "A reminder of why every duelist maxes out their extra deck, I suppose."

"And now Dogmatikamatrix activates!" Said Chumley. "I can now send Titaniklad, the Ash Dragon from my extra deck to the graveyard! Next, I'll then switch Silent Magician to defense mode! (DEF: 1000) And then I set one card face down!

And during the end phase, Titaniklad's effect activates! Allowing me to fetch Dogmatika Fleurdelis, The Knighted! It's your move! Make it count!"

Without saying anything, Zane draws a card. "For my turn, I'll offer Iblee and Silver Gadget as sacrifices for a tribute summon!"

Chumley raises an eyebrow. "Tribute summon?"

Zane continues. "I tribute summon Desperado Barrel Dragon!"

"I see what you're trying to do now!" Shouted Chumley. "But it won't work on me! I activate Fleurdelis' effect in my hand! Special summoning it to my field and negating your monster's effect! (ATK: 2500)"

Zane makes a fist. "I still have my battle phase! I'll have Desperado Barrel Dragon attack Silent Magician!"

Silent Magician gets mowed down by a ton of bullets fired by Zane's monster.

Chumley smirks. "When Silent Magician is destroyed by battle, I can special summon Silent Magician LV8 from my deck while ignoring its summoning conditions! (ATK: 3500)"

"I'll place one card face down… and end my turn!" Zane looks down at the ground.

Chumley draws a card. This time, skipping the Japanese dialog. "For my turn, I'm going to switch all my remaining monsters to attack mode and attack with everything I got! I'm going to attack your dragon with Silent Magician LV8!"

"I activate my set card!" Shouted Zane. "Limiter Removal! My monster's attack points are now 5,600!"

"Activate counter trap!" Chumley shouted back. "Solemn Judgement! It negates your Limiter Removal!" "NO!" The Legend - 4000 LP.

"All my Dogmatika Monsters gain 500 attack points thanks to Fleurdelis' effect! That's enough for me to win the game!" "AUGH!"

Hell Kaiser - 0 LP

Dr. Yamada went up to the dueling platform to congratulate Chumley. "We haven't doubted you for a second, Mr. Huffington. Although, if you ask me, it's important that you make the time to get an appropriate amount of sleep, so that you don't have to worry about being tardy."

"Are you kidding me?" Chumley deactivates his duel disk. "This new deck of mine… I don't feel any satisfaction aside from Silent Magician. I'm in for another all nighter to find the deck that describes ME as a person."

"UGH! Who CARES if you're not satisfied with your deck, Chumley!?" Jaden walks up to him. "You won… You WON! Isn't that all that matters?"

Chumley shakes his head. "I don't expect you to understand. You haven't changed your deck since the day I met you…. There's a difference between being good with a DECK… and being good at the GAME… The way I see it, somebody's gonna be mopping the floor with you sooner rather than later."

He then looks towards Zane. "You hear what I just said, Hell Kaiser? If you're gonna take ANY advice from me, you just heard it! The moment I come up with a better deck… I just might duel you again… But until then… Happy writing."

He smirks at him before walking away.

Zane looks down at his duel disk. "A difference between… being good with a deck… and being good at the game."

That's it, guys. That's all I can manage to put together for now.
