The ballad of newt and owl: chapter 5

"Nnnnnghh!"

"Go on, you got it."

Marcy, Eda, king and Luz were in a clearing near the owl house, with gus there for moral support. They were trying to reactivate her powers on command.

"Wow, this is almost as sad as Eda with her harpy form."

"Hey!" Said eda, "I got there in the end!"

"Yeah, not without listening to heavy metal and eating 12 voles."

"I'd rather not discuss that part."

"Hey, guys?" Said marcy in a stressed voice, "I love you guys, but I'd rather you please shush. So far i've only been able to activate a small amount for small flashes."

"Don't worry, you can do this!" Said a small blue image of gus with a flag.

"Not helping, tiny gus."

"Awww," said real gus sitting on a rock, before the illusion disappeared. "Sometimes I feel like that one character in every show who used to be the main character's best friend, only to be shunned to the side in the second season and being given minimal character development."

Not paying attention to gus's frankly depressing statement, marcy continued trying to hold her powers.

"Hnnnnngfffffffff!"

She managed to hold her powers for a total of…

"Seven seconds," she sighed, and took out her journal. "It seems i hit a sort of limit. Perhaps i can make better use of it if i strategically switch it on and off?" She mumbled, taking notes.

"Easy there, girl. Sometimes you just gotta take your time," suggested Luz. "It took at least a month or two for me to find all my glyphs, and longer to combine them properly."

"Yeah, well, i'm not sure if you noticed when we were watching suspicion island last weekend, but i'm not a very patient person," said marcy in a sing-song voice, still jotting down observations.

"Kid, you coming inside?" Asked Eda, 4 hours later after making dinner.

"No, I think i'm gonna do a bit more training," she said, absent-mindedly.

"She still not coming in," said Eda to Luz. "What are we gonna do?"

"I'll get some help," she said, taking out her phone.

"You called?" Asked the voice of Anne over the phone.

"Hi, Anne! It's me, Luz. I have something to ask you."

"What is it?" Anne asked, perplexed.

"Have you ever had problems with marcy's patience?"

Anne chuckled. "Oh, i see. Yeah, a lot. Even before Amphibia she was pretty impatient but it only increased while she was there. You know, she once accidentally sunk an entire town because she was trying to take the quick route to befriending everyone."

"Ah. That'd be it. Well, she's putting all her effort into one specific thing and i'm afraid she's gonna tire herself out."

"Well, it can't be as bad as Amphibia, it's on earth after all. What is it?"

"She's trying to reactivate her calamity powers."

"Ah," Anne seemed worried, "that does seem kinda important. I'll be around in a day or so."

"How are you gonna manage that?"

"…doesn't matter." she hung up.

Luz looked outside to marcy still struggling to activate her powers.

"I hope she's ok."

————————————

Luz woke up in the owl house to a peaceful quiet.

"Boy, nothing beats the boiling isles when it comes to peacefulness," she stretched and walked up to the window, looking outside to a giant sea snake eating a griffin flying midair.

"Ignoring that."

She walked downstairs to get some breakfast.

"Hey, guys, how are- AHH!"

Luz had just seen the most tired looking marcy she thought she would ever see, sitting down on a stool.

"Oh, hey, Luz!" Marcy said, bags under her eyes, flashing green every few seconds. "Good news! I managed to get my record up to nine seconds!"

"Ummmm… Marcy?"

"Yeah?" She said, dazed.

"Did you stay up all night practicing your powers?"

"So what if i did?"

"…Girl, that can't be healthy. You need some shuteye."

"No, i need some green eye !" Marcy argued. "If i want to fit in here, i gotta learn magic!"

"Marcy, you should take it slow. Trying to be perfect at magic that quick is impossible. You'll get stronger naturally."

"Or," said the newtopian hero, "i could do it now, quickly. It works just as well!" And her eyes flashed green.

She then proceeded to fall to the floor.

"Alright, girl, i'm getting you to bed."

While she was dragging marcy upstairs to a sleeping bag, she got a call from the Wus.

"Hey, Luz! How was the sleepover?"

"Just fine!" Luz chuckled nervously.

"How's marcy?"

"Asleep."

"Oh, that's just like her. She stays up late into the night playing her silly little games and then crashes."

"Yup! Sorry, bit busy… excersising? Gotta go byeeee!"

————————————

"Whoo. Mama really needs to do some more pushups," Luz said, after getting marcy in a sleeping bag. "Hey, dreas?" She called Marcy's palisman. It came over and crawled up her.

"Oh, that tickles! Anyway, can you snuggle up to marcy? I need to go… clean hooty." And she shivered, before leaving the room.

Luz did NOT notice that some green energy started flowing around dreas as soon as he snuggled up to marcy, and then was absorbed into him.

———————————————

Anne was concerned.

After years, she had helped keep marcy safe, but she never considered a point in time when she had new friends who didn't know how to rein her in.

She went out into the garden.

"Please work please work please work," she said continuously, before going completely blue-haired and flying into the air at the speed of sound.

———————————————

"Come on, Luz!" Hooty smirked playfully. "Hooty needs some cleaning!"

"Ugh," she wretched. "Please, just get out any leftover trash you have in there BEFORE i clean you."

"Sure thin- URK!"

And hooty let out a massive pile.

"Huh, that's bigger than usual."

And luz pushed aside some trash to find a massive egg.

"And that's rounder than my usual pellet."

"That's not a pellet…"

Eda walked outside and as soon as she saw the egg, she grabbed Luz. "NOT AGAIN! GET DOWN!"

"Eda, wha-"

And the egg cracked, with white light coming out.

"Eda, i'm scared," said Luz.

"I am too, kid," Eda responded, "Hooty's reproducing."

"MY CHILD!" Hooty shouted, curling up to the egg. "I WILL PROTECT YOU!"

"Awww, that's sort of wholesome," said Luz, seeing a smaller version of hooty… ooze? Slither out of the egg.

"Kid, you don't know what happens when a house demon reproduces," she said, watching the smaller hooty growl agressively and drag itself towards hooty, it's back end still connected to the cracked egg, "when a house demon and it's child meet, they battle to the death over possession of the house."

"FATHER, I WILL DESTROY YOU!" Said the smaller hooty, in the exact same voice.

"NOT IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY!"

"Well, this happens all the time, right?"

"…well, normally it's fine, but i'm not sure how old Hooty is. The older a house demon is, the more deadly they are, and ours is multiple thousand years and just about to enter a battle to the death."

"…i see." Luz paused for a second before realising. "OH TITAN, I NEED TO GET KING AND MARCY!"

Luz ran in without a second thought, and saw king on the floor, sleeping.

"Huh? Wha-"

"KING, WE NEED TO GO. NO TIME TO EXPLAIN, IT'S A HOOTY THING."

"ON IT!"

Luz ran upstairs to get Marcy, who was sleeping in the bag, mumbling something about bug appetisers and salamander brains.

"Marcy, wake up. I get you didn't have much sleep, but we need to get up and go. Grab dreas."

"What's the problem?" She said excitedly, "I can help!" As they ran outside.

"Honestly, I dont think anyone can help," and she pointed to the death battle between two hootys.

Luz took out her palisman and it turned into it's staff form. "WE GOTTA FLY!"

As marcy took out dreas and began to fly away, she felt something pulling the staff. She looked down and other Hooty had gotten hold.

"HAHA! FATHER, I HAVE YOUR STRANGE FRIEND. FORFEIT THE HOUSE, OR I'LL PELLET HER!"

Hooty growled. "YOU WOULDN'T DARE!" He said, Before dashing at marcy, planning to free her. Instinctively marcy held out her palisman to try defend herself and… it glowed green, Creating a barrier!

"Whoah! I'm doing magic!" She said. "Green magic! Dreas, you legend!" And she took out her journal, and began jotting down some new notes.

"It seems calamity magic is similar to witch magic, because it can be amplified by a palisma-"

"NOT THE TIME, KID!" Shouted Eda from her palisman. "JUST DRAW A CIRCLE AND THINK OF WHAT YOU WANT!"

"ON IT!"

She flew to the ground and drew a massive circle. Green fire burst out, hitting the smaller hooty.

"Hey, I'm busy trying to overthrow my dad!"

"He may be annoying, but he's ours!" Shouted king. "You ain't doing anything to him!"

"Or what?"

"Or, I burn you!" Said marcy. "I'm clumsy and I have magic. What's scarier?"

"Ugh, i'll go find another house then," sighed the newer Hooty. "Bye, suckers. Bye, Dad."

"Goodbye, son!" Hooty cried. "I'll never forget the bonds we share!"

"Hooty, he tried to kill you," said Eda.

"Luz," Marcy said, "I'm sorry for worrying you. I guess you were right. Sometimes you just have to be patient to progress instead of pulling an all-nighter."

"You know what, it's fine," smiled Luz. "It's not like you caused it."

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hooty, what ARE you?"
"I'm a house demon!"
"Yeah, i know that, but, like, how were you born?"
"I can show you!" Hooty said. "URK! Sorry, I can't do it on command. It takes a few days for the egg to surface."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"…Yeah. Sure." Luz took out her phone and called Anne.

"Hey, Anne, don't worry, i sorted it out. You don't need to help."

"Awww, but i just got here!"

"…you did?"

"Yeah, i flew. It was really tiring. Can i stay over for a bit?"

"…sure. Meet us at marcy's house."

And she hung up.

"Hey, should we be worried about who's house that owl goes to?"

"Nah, it'll be fine."

————————————

Boscha walked out of her front door.

"What a beautiful day for grudgby!"

"I agree!" Said a strange owl, attached to her front door.

"AAAAAH!"

————————————

Jacob was down a back alley.

His contact had told him to meet here to discuss business, and that they'd finally meet.

"Oh hey!" He said, spotting a figure.

"Hello, dear. I hear you want some revenge against those pesky witches?"

"Yeah! You believe in them?"

"Darling, I've met them."

"Who are you?" Asked Hopkins.

"Not that I have many anymore, but my friends call me Odalia. And this is a friend i've made that can help us."

A pigeon flew out from behind Odalia.

"Hello! You can call me Gary," it said, before turning around and pointing to a flock of pigeons.

"You'll be hearing that name a lot."

Hey! So yeah. Odalia! And... Gary! One is a universally hater mother figure, the other is an oddly hilarious and yet pretty mid-tier returning villain. I'm gonna try my best with the lil' guy, but i'm struggling with adding more amphibia characters due to the fact that, well, it's closed off. I had a limited selection, and i'm planning on incorporating the others.

Hope you enjoyed chapter 5, i might take a little longer now for chapters tho.

Cya!
