I decided to go to Spoonerville Beach on Saturday. Relaxing on the sand and surfing on the waves, no matter how high or low they were, always calmed me down when I had been through a very busy time and this Saturday I felt that I needed and earned it more now than ever, what with saving my friends from Simon's burning cabin and preventing a forest fire in the Spoonerville Forest last weekend, still going to school to get the best grades I could possibly get, winning more school football matches and rehearsing for Sweeney Todd and that awful fight with Simon yesterday, who finally got expelled from school from Principal Mazur himself for his terrible behavior, especially when he fought me when I tried to protect Roxanne from him and when he punched Mazur in his face.
My dad didn't come with me to the beach because he was on a golf weekend trip with his best buddies Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. So I went to the beach to relax by myself and, wearing my light brown swim shorts, I had fun surfing the vast, awesome waves on my white surfboard for two amazing hours.
"You were awesome, Max."
"Thanks, Roxanne." Then I realized what I just said as I finished riding the waves and walked back onto the beach. I turned to see the most beautiful girl and the very best girlfriend in the world. "Hi, Roxanne," I greeted.
"Hi, Max," she greeted.
"How long have you been watching me?" I asked.
"For the last hour," she replied. "You were totally amazing."
"Thanks." Then I took her to my beach mat. "Is that a new dress? It's very beautiful."
"Yeah, thanks, Max. And, yeah, it is new." Roxanne was wearing a light blue beach dress with many colorful tropical flowers on it. She was wearing blue flip-flops that perfectly matched the dress. "I got it from a charity shop. My daddy may have got promoted and is earning more money, but we still have to be very careful about what we buy."
Then we reached my green beach mat. I put my surfboard in the sand and then I sat down on the mat. Then I watched Roxanne take off her flip-flops and her dress, revealing her strapless yellow bikini, before she sat next to me. As I put sun block on her smooth and gorgeous back, I told her that even though I was already having a great day, she showing up to spend time with me made this day even better and I told her that I was glad that she was okay and that I, she and the rest of our school was finally safe from Simon now that he finally got expelled. She wanted to know more about my meeting with Mazur after school yesterday, so I told her about it. I was sent to Mazur's office after school was done for the day and my dad was there and so was Simon and his parents. Simon, as usual, tried to paint himself as a hero and paint me to be the bad guy, but luckily Mazur didn't buy one word of it and he didn't even accept his parents' bribe or fake pleading or real threats. His parents were just as arrogant and narcissistic and selfish as Simon was and thought the whole wide world revolved around them and that made me think that must be why their son turned out to be the very messed-up guy he was. Mazur couldn't take any more of Simon and his family any more than I or any of my friends could. He angrily expelled him and would never allow him or his parents at Spoonerville High School ever again, not even for a job, which his parents desperately needed after losing all their money now that they no longer owned their quarry empire and they used the last of their money to bail their son out.
"I was very worried of Mazur was going to buy Simon's story and expel me instead," I said.
"Well, thank goodness he didn't," Roxanne said.
"And before my dad and I left Mazur's office, he also gave this to me." I got something out of my bag, which was a brown envelope. I got out of it a letter and gave it to Roxanne. "And I'm the only one who's read it. My dad hasn't read it and I haven't shown it to anyone yet, not even to PJ or Bobby."
"Wow!" she exclaimed after she finished reading it. "This is an official letter from the Powerline himself?"
"For real," I replied.
"Look what he's saying about you."
Then she reread it again but read it out loud this time. This is how the letter went:
'To Max Goof.
Hi, Max, dude. How are you doing? Are you saying cool and groovy?
I'm writing to you to let you know that I heard about your bravery to save your friends from that burning cabin and prevented that forest fire. To me, there's nothing more awesome than showing love and dedication to your family and friends and that's how your story of bravery inspired me to write my next song, 'Nothing More Awesome Than Love.' And every time I perform it, whether it be in the recording studio or live on stage, I will always dictate it to you because you are truly special and amazing just like you were when you danced with me at my most famous concert ever in LA last year. I saw great potential in you when you danced with me and I knew you were capable for doing awesome things, but your heroic story still exceeded my expectations and I know that you will continue to do so and impress me.
Well, I'm off to record this new song now. I hope you listen to it when it gets released, either on the radio or the cassette tape or CD.
Good luck and keep up the awesome work.
Your pal,
Powerline.'
"I can't believe you're the inspiration for Powerline's next song?" Roxanne exclaimed.
"Neither can I," I said as humbly as I could be. "When I read it for the first time, I thought I was dreaming because I couldn't believe Powerline himself would write to me."
"Well, it wasn't a dream, was it, Max?" Roxanne said.
"Definitely not," I agreed. "And it's not just me who received a letter from him. PJ and Debbie, who you know are massive Powerline fans, have received their own letters of praise from Powerline himself as well. I haven't read their letters, but they told me about it as I told them about my letter."
"Well, all three of you deserve it," Roxanne said. "You must feel so special to be the inspiration for Powerline's latest song and get his praise, because not every fan gets to be the inspiration for his or her idol's next song or get their personal praise."
I did feel very special. And even though receiving the letter from Powerline did make me very good and special about myself, nothing made me feel more special or happier than having Roxanne back in my life. I thought that going through that tough Simon business would have ended our relationship forever, but in fact I thought it became stronger and Roxanne and I became closer than ever before.
"So, how many times have you been to Spoonerville Beach, Roxanne?" I asked.
"None, Max," she replied. "This is my very first time. My dad doesn't know I'm here because, even with the truth about Simon and his dad and everything, he still hasn't learned anything and he still hasn't changed and he won't change his overprotective rules for me to obey. He'll say that the beach is very dangerous because of getting sunburnt, drowning, getting pecked by seagulls, getting my toe grabbed by a crab and everything. And the only reason I decided to give the beach a try was because you're here. If you weren't here, I wouldn't have tried it for the first time."
"I see," I said. "And now that you've tried it, what do you think about it?"
"Well, I've only walked on it and sat on your beach mat next to you," she said. "And I really enjoyed it."
Then I had an idea. "Well, as it's your first day on a beach," I said, "shall I show you what more fun you can have on the beach?"
Roxanne thought about it and smiled. "Okay, Max. Teach me everything."
"Great!" I exclaimed happily. "Let's get the fun going!"
Then I showed Roxanne all the fun anyone could have on the beach, including building sandcastles and moats around it, just digging holes in the sand, getting an ice cream and a burger or a hotdog and a cool drink, paddling in the sea, collecting shells and bodyboarding. I haven't done these things since I was a very young kid, but doing it again made me feel like one and doing it with the very best girlfriend in the world made it extra special for me and it proved to me that we were a happy– if not happier – couple again than ever before.
