Chapter 18
The next morning I woke up not as early as the Dawn patrol, but still early. I decided to go check out the new medicen cat garden. It seemed to be coming along very nicely from the way Daiypaw talked about it. I started up the slope withe the sun starting to rise into morning. When I reached the top, a thick and heavy layer of snow had covered the ground, I assumed the dawn patorls had truged and moved the snow in the clearing away from the dens on their way out. When I reached, what looked to be the garden I noticed no snow had driffted or metled through the thick walls of bramble, twigs, and leaves that where carefully woven through. The top was covered by more barmbles that made a bush like shape, but was covered with many leafs and branches to keep the snow out. As I walked in, the ground had been walked on and digged up in various places, I assumed for herbs. The rocks Daisypaw was talking about did make a good storage place for herbs and had many craks and crevices that where bound to be deep enough to store stuff. I was impressed with what they had come up with. The sun shinded through all the cracks it could and filled the garden with plenty of light for the herbs. I saw that the few plant already growing where being watered by snow that was pushed on them and was melting in the sun. It was a very clever idea and we would ahve enough medicen supplies to last us all season. "Like the Garden?" I heard Daiypaw's voice ring out. "It was a very good idea."I said. "This will help us very much." "We still need more plants but we're almost done." She said. "Lets go hunting together." I said starting out into the forest. I knew th boarder patorls wher going to split and hunt along the way but we could be of use doing it now. "Sure!" She said cheerfully. I assumed Daiypas was more acustomed to the snow than I was. She skiped and hoped and rollde about in it like a new apprentice.
After catching two brids and a scrawny mouse, we headed for the shadowclan boarder. We figurded by the larger trees that some shrews would be hiding underneath the roots, if the shadowclan boarder patorl didn't scare them off. When we reached the trees, I imediatly spoted one right off the bat. I crouched low with the snow ticeling my belly then I pounced. Sadly it slipped away before I could even land. "No worriess." Daisypaw said. "We can always catch more." If we could find more, I thought. Just then branches cracked and a half of the shadowclan camp came storming on our side. Some had very bad scratches and bite marks and other worse injuries. Somewhere helping the few elders make it across the border. "Boneclan had taken over the camp!" Echoflood said. "We ran away but some of our clan members were left behind! Now they and Skyclan are trapped under the rule of those cats!!" Ashstar announced. "Calm down. Lets get you guys out of this cold and to the camp so we can figure this out." I said. Daisyfern rushed over to the other medicine cat and started checking over the other cats with her. The group of warriors, apprentices, elders and others followed me back to our camp. Their bones showed and were ragged and worn. Most of the time, Shadowclan would object, but their weakness showed so much they couldn't argue. I ran over to Baybite and helped support her by relieving the two very small apprentices from her weight. They had been through much of a fight it seemed. Ashfur took the lead beside me while the rest of the patrol were watching the sides or mixed in between the others helping them get through the forest. "So, I assume Russell, Drakenfur, and Lunfang were there too?" I said. Ashstar's eyes clouded with sorrow. "Lunafang was the only one there. I assumed she had cooked up this devious plan." Lunafang had seemed to come across as the ideal cat who would think up a cruel idea and carry it out as she wished, with what permission Drakenfur gave her. He had ideas but the dirty work ideas and the ideas to concern must be hers. Drakenfur thought of the devious and sneaky side of trickery, while all her plans resulted in attacking. Russell was much too old to pick his battles and successfully win them. I assumed he did the organizing and sorting in what they called "'Boneclan'". We stalked through the freshly fallen snow twoards the bramble camp entrance. As the wind picked up, a fowl smell carried in the wind from Shadowclan's direction. "That's Boneclan alright. They're no longer in hiding of their scent." I said. "Blood too." Ashstar added. "I hope my warriors are alright, and my son." His look didn't contain a strong chance of hope. Boneclan was much stronger than the clans put together at this moment and mostly likely no cat would survive their wrath. "Do you think they're going to keep prisoners?" Ashstar asked when we took a turn into some undergrowth closer to camp. "I don't know, they said they were keeping Skyclan alive, barley. I think it was because they didn't put up a fight, they were very weak. Plus them killing so early in their plan wasn't ideal." I said keeping my eyes ahead, then turned my head towards him as I questioned, "Why did you ask me though? I'm barely a young warrior, let alone a new deputy." "Your the prophecy cat. You would know best." He mumbled. I assumed he felt weak by the wakening statement and facts I gave him.
We entered into the camp and Ashstar took the lead, trying to show a fierce bold entrance. What was the use of that though? "Ashstar, what brings you here? And your clan!?" Dawnstar said angrily, rushing over. I assumed she heard the pound of the huge paws from the Shadowclan warriors coming down the slope. More warriors gathered at her side snarling and baring their teeth. What little muscle they did have clung to their boney frames. Most of us were healed but in no state to fight. Shadowclan had the upper hand with more warriors and a stronger build, just because they were shadowclan cats. "Dawnstar, I bring them in peace. Boneclan invaded their territory and some of the others were left behind." I said. "And my son." Ashstar hissed at me in reminder. I assumed he was worried and upset. I couldn't tell him that his son could or was still alive. "Eaglepaw?" Dawnstar questioned. I didn't know his son was an apprentice. He nodded solemnly. "We need to hold a meeting with the clan to let them know whats going on." She said, flicking her tail telling the Thunderclan camp to lose their guards and relax. She signaled me to fallow her to the high ledge for the meeting. "Cats of Thunderclan and Shadowclan, gather for a meeting. Ashstar padded up the rock to sit with us. "Today has brought trouble to Shadowclan camp, as Boneclan has attacked and took over." Worried chattering between the two clans started up. "I would like to have a few more warriors on hunting and the medicine cat garden to be harvested of what we need as quickly as possible." She looked over at Ashstar. "If it is well with you and your clan, Thunderclan would be happy to house ya'll until we can overcome this evil." Ashstar nodded. "We will be in your debt. Thank you so much." I looked at Ashstar, his face gave nothing of grief away but the stern look he put on. "Now Shadowclan is capable of hunting as well, Dawnstar. I would like my deputy to organize cats from the shadowclan to go with thunderclan patrols." Ashstar said with much authority as if he was talking to a warrior. "Yes as you wish, but remember Ashstar, you are on Thunderclan territory now, we are housing you and helping you." Dawnstar said getting sterner. "So you either talk to me as a clan leader young one or I will treat you as a foolish kit." Fait laughs and chuckles rang out about the crowd. Ashfoot was the one of the youngest leaders, and behaved as the young warrior he was. Most cats knew that with such power comes leadership, and Ashstar did show leadership, but used his power quite harshly. "Fine." He huffed, rolling his eyes. "Moosetail, help Willowheart organize patrols, and Honeyblossom, please help the medicine cats." They both looked up then hurried off to their duties. "Now that that's settled, the meeting is over." Dawnstar said. I padded down to meet Moosetail at the bottom of the highledge so we could organize patrols. "Greetings Moosetail." I said trying to sound like an older warrior. "Greetings, Willowheart, who shall we send for the patrols?" He replied, looking over at me with his exhausted eyes. "Well, let's see." I said, trying to search the clearing for cats. "How about the Windclan border patrol, Leaffeather, Moosefur, Frostfoot, Starblaze and Smokefall?" I replied. "Smokefall was badly injured on his back right leg, Cinderrriple can go with them though." He said as he looked for her through the clearing. " Okay and the Shadowclan border patrol? How about…" Before I could start he cut me off, "Ladyweb, Coalsting, Strongheart, Spottedpaw, and Barkstripe. I'm sorry for interrupting but we're worried for our home, territory and the loved ones left behind. I would just like some Shadowclan cats to go check it out." He said looking down at his paws ashamed of interrupting me. "I understand, no worries. I think we should have just one hunting patrol, they can split up when they want. With all this snow they need to keep close." I said. I was a bit shocked at the respect he showed me as a young deputy. "Who shall we send?" I said, after a brief moment of silence, looking at Moosetail with clam, curious eyes. "Ummm, Snowbreeze, Littleleaf, Rabbitfoot, Puddleitch,..." He started. "Who else?" "Maybe Shadowstorm and Frostfoot?" "Sounds good, let's make the announcement." Moosetail said, has he rushed up to the highledge. "Cats of Thunderclan and Shadowclan!" He started, as I was still scrambling up there. He obviously seemed to be in some kind of a hurry. "Me and Willowheart have organized all the patrols for the evening." He said, with much authority in his voice. I took a seat beside him once I got up there. I was about to call out the windclan patrols when he flicked his tail at me. "Let me do it" I muttered, not loud enough for the whole clan to hear, just me. "Shadowclan needs to know that their authority and leaders are still in control and not that we just crumbled at Thunderclans paws." "Sure, but Thunerclan still has a say and its own authority. I will call out border patrols and hunting patrols when I please" I said, matching his authority and volume. He just looked away and back out to the clearing out cats, who were looking at us with eager and tired eyes. "The windclan patrol will be made up of Leaffeather, Moosefur, Frostfoot, Starblaze and Cinderrriple." Moosetail said, looking down at all the cats. "We need to remark the scent markers over there as well. The Thunderclan cats will do that." I said, giving a nod to Frostfoot. I knew he would stay on top of it. "The Shadowclan border patrols will be made up of Ladyweb, Coalsting, Strongheart, Spottedpaw, and Barkstripe." "We decided to have one big hunting patrol. Those of you on it can decide when to split up but stay together. The snow is very easy to get lost in." Moosetail said, trying to overpower what I was saying. Same old Shadowclan, always trying to be fierce and strong. I thought to myself. The meeting broke up into its sections as we dismissed them with a flick of our tails. " "Do you think we should go in?" Moostail asked as we stood there in silence watching the moss that covered the entrance into the leaders' den. "I'll ask stay right here." I stepped inside just at the entrance of the den. "Dawnstar?" I questioned without taking a step further. "Come in Willowheart and bring Moosetail in too." She said, with a hint of worriedness to her tone. I spun on my heels poking my head out of the den. "Okay we can come in." I said, then walked back in to sit down beside Dawnstar. " The matters we have discussed are worrying ones, Bonecaln is getting stronger by every inch of the forest they walk." Ashstar said when we had both seated ourselves. "We must stop them or the whole forest will crumble." Dawnstar said. "Dawnstar, you know how Riverclan came to us, asking for an alliance?" I said bringing back the memory of the new Riverclan leader coming in apologizing and shaming themselves for the battle they brought upon us. "Yes, I remember." She spoke. "What if we team up with them and attack? Shadowclan is already on our side and we could at least drive them out back towards the Skyclan border. That way Shadowclan has their territory back and we could rescue Skyclan." I said. "It may be too risky though. We are in no match to fight, not even all three clans. Our food was stolen from right underneath us, and we just fought Boneclan once with many injured cats and captured." Mossetail added. "I don't even think the band of cats who attacked us were all, when we were fleeing over the Skyclan border, a strong smell of lots of cats heading towards our camp seemed to be going that way. I assume they had already had a base made out of skyclan's camp." Ashstar said gravely. "Then it is only a matter of time before they come after the rest of us. I think fighting them will give them the idea we are still well, able and present in the forest and we will defend it with our lives. After the next gathering, we strike. I mean what other option do we have?" Dawnstar said, looking at Ashstar with questioning eyes. All he did was look down, almost ashamed that she was looking at him that way. You could tell he didn't want to go into battle but Dawnstar was right. We would have to fight back this problem, because it wasn't one we could just simply talk about.
