Zeno was not really a gardener, had never really grown his own vegetables, nor did he really know all that much about soil. But here he is, with Kaya, who is showing him where to plant what vegetable, so that they get the proper amount of sun, so that they are spread out enough, and how to check the soil to make sure it is the right kind.
Zeno isn't sure what that means exactly, but here he is learning something new, as Kaya teaches someone surprisingly much older than her how to grow a vegetable garden.
And he's laughing as she explains a few of the differences, partly from joy and sheer giddiness, and partly because it seems almost too easy to make those mistakes. And she's shaking her head at him, but she's smiling.
And it's moments like these when he can really see both how well she's gotten at surviving, and also just the way she relaxes around him, not taking herself nor Zeno too seriously at all.
It's moments like these where Zeno thinks an 'I love you,' is most fitting, if only he could get the words out to tell her just what all of this means for him and for her and for them, and just how much he truly does see and truly does appreciate.
But the words are hard to say, so instead he focuses on learning how to garden from her, and by doing so, showing his love for her in action.
