Chapter 4:

James ripped his arm across his face to remove the tears blocking his sight. He shot another body-binding curse and Albus hit a body with a small rock.

Suddenly the island was surrounded with a wall of blazing fire. James and Albus jumped back, shielding their eyes. They could hear the creatures screaming and feel the wind and heat from the fire surrounding them. James opened his eyes to see his father twirling his wand above his head. He was creating the wall of fire.

"Dad Lily!" James called out above the roar of the fire. Their mother came running to them.

"Where? Where is Lily?" She screamed over the thundering roar.

"They took her! She's in the water!" Albus shrieked pointing to the last place their saw Lily. Ginny jumped to her feet. She ran to the edge of the water and dove in.

"Mom!" James cried out as his mother disappeared under the water. James held Albus close to him.

"Come on." James and Albus turned to see their Uncle Ron. He grabbed James' hand and pulled them towards the boat.

James looked to see his father expanding the wall of fire. He was shouting to his Aunt Hermione, but James couldn't hear him above the roar. He saw her point to the spot his sister and now mother had disappeared. The wall of fire his father was producing rose into the air before diving into the water. James watched in awe and fear as he watched the fire zoom out around them under the boat. Albus clung to him tightly, his head in his chest, but James couldn't stop watching. The fire wall reappeared around them; this time much closer. He had a clear view of his aunt running to the water. James turned to his Uncle Ron who shot spells in each direction and sending his own blast of fire at the creatures. James looked back at his father. He looked determined as the fire spun around them. The walls stood near ten feet tall and balls of fire shot into the air around them before plunging into the water. James could feel his hair and clothes moving from the sheer force. He turned back to the boat when his uncle took off.

"Lily!" He shouted as his uncle took the limp form of his baby sister. He looked past him to see his Aunt Hermione helping his mother across the island. Ron lay Lily down on the boat and ran to Harry. James watched his father and his family piled into the small boat. His father spread his arms out, blasting the fire across the cave, before turning toward the boat. He lifted his wand hand high and a new wall of fire emerged. This time the wall extended from the island to the shore on both sides of the boat.

Harry jumped into the boat as he continued to twirl his wand around his head. Ron said some spell James hadn't heard and the boat took off.

"Lily." James heard Albus whisper. James held Albus tight as he watched his Aunt Hermione pull the water from her mouth using magic. His mother sat holding Lily's hand tightly.
