Agent: I'm glad you have reconsidered our offer, Dr. Birkin. Having you here is key to accomplish our goals.
Target: I had to see for myself the future of biology, as you put it.
Agent: (laughs) You'll love what you see around here. We have an excellent team, I'll introduce you to your new colleagues later.
Target: When will be the new lab ready for use?
Agent: Well, you know contractors, it's officially scheduled for next month, but we'll see. For the moment, we'll use the current installation. It's not as advanced as we would like to, but it's still far superior to the facilities you were working in, back when I visited you in the US.
Target: I heard it will be built in Hakone. I guess it's very convenient, since my wife is already upset with having to move here to Japan. She would kill me if we had to change cities again.
Agent: (laughs) The lab will be here, yes. Only a catastrophe could make us abandon this city, after all the effort we've put in the new facility.
Target: What's this?
Agent: Ah, it's a sort of… token of good luck. It's a way the scientific team found to pay homage to Sueoka and Yoshikawa a couple of Japanese investigators who experimented on DNA replication.
Target: Of course, the ones that proved sequentiality. I'm terrible with names… and with Japanese. I hope I can learn a bit during my stay.
Agent: Don't worry. For the moment, the team is international. We do have a majority of Japanese, due to logistics and convenience, but most of them know at least some basic English.
Target: You mentioned something about a language program, right?
Agent: (noise) –for all employees, so hopefully you'll learn the essential and some kanjis, so you can move around the city. Here, take this card.
Target: Thank you, should I place it here?
Agent: Yes, that's your identification. You can use it to access the science pavilion. Please, don't lose it or I'll be drowning in paperwork for a week.
(Rustle)
Target: The equipment looks first class…
Agent: These will be your new toys. Centrifuges, electronic microscopes, tools for dissection… You name it, we got it. And if we don't, we'll buy it.
Target: It's not a mystery you're well-funded.
Agent: Look, there's Dr. Richards. Let me introduce you to the team.
